    Hi all

we booked onboard for Feb 2021,taking advantage of the low £50pp deposit

Just wondering if we cancel are we liable for what would have been the usual deposit (not entirely sure what amount that would be though) or would we just lose the amount we have paid ie £100 in total ?

Probably only £50, but if there is something hidden in the T&C's, you could give them a voucher 😁.

We were due to sail today 😞 my main issue is there lack of communication.  It was only cancelled last Weds, we messaged them on fb and asked and right up until the last day they were still saying it was going ahead, when we all knew it wasn't.   Other cruise lines have posted regular updates and kept their websites up to date with apologies, updates etc.. I appreciate they are up against it and their staff are undoubtedly working very hard but communication and openness costs nothing.

Laying off most of the call centre staff and then blaming staff shortages is just gross management incompetence.

Holidays prices will certainly go up next year, but if you take the cash refund and book a holiday next year the price will still be up.  I suppose it depends if you are planning on taking a holiday next year.   Using the incentive (if it's really 20%) could offset some of that price rise.  But if you don't have any holiday plans, take the money.

That's a very good point. Is that just TUI?. We had an Alaska cruise cancelled by Celebrity for June. The price for next year is pretty much the same. There does seem to be a bit of variability at the moment. Perhaps too early to predict, but no doubt TUI will play fair.🤔

I've had several stays at Warner's Bembridge Coast Hotel.  It is not 'upmarket' but very comfortable with pleasant food.  The setting is stunning with mature trees and lovely lawns extending down to the (admittedly rather scraggy) beach.  With good weather you could easily feel that you are on the Cote D'Azur.  Good cruise ship spotting too under normal circumstances.

If we are unable to cruise this year, Bembridge is a possible alternative. It's nice to sit on the terrace before dinner with a glass of wine watching the cruise ships pass,....................😪

No, they will bombard you constantly with marketing materials via emails and post!

So far today I have had 5 emails from holiday/cruise companies. It's the only travel we get at the moment. U Tube has taken a bashing. We go to the Canaries on Tuesday(not). When TUI get around to it I can add their voucher to the rest. LET US OUT. A day trip to Southsea will be a treat.😷.

Good sense as always Selbourne. The "Saturday night ITV" crowd and resort holiday seekers are one thing, especially during school holidays, but P&O will also need to retain their share of the "Grey Pound."

If we are old and grey, but watch TV on Saturday nights and like holiday resorts as well, will they target us, or ban us?.

Now I call that "positive thinking" and I will admit to being strange😆.

    Avril

I will be away somewhere the moment restrictions are lifted. South Devon sounds appealing from some of the posts on this site. I would hope by late June. We are on Iona at the end of August ( Gary Barlow is on board 😷). Some UK holiday brands are doing refundable deposits. We are positive that there is an abundance of negativity on here. There is an end to this.

The latest Tui update , Friday afternoon, has different wording.

The TUI refund policy is fairly clear IMO. Don't give the suckers anything back. Make them wait a year and in the meantime find other excuses to hang on to their money. Phone for a refund. Yeah, right ,try that if you have a few spare days.

Has anybody recently received a phone call from Tui ?  I have seen lots of posts from people who haven,t, me included ,but has anyone actually heard from them?  Also, if you are dealing with a Tui shop  surely they can,t have as many calls to make and should be processing them quicker.

No phone calls and we go on holiday Tuesday, or should be. Try phoning them and you end in a loop before cutting you off. Absolute rubbish.

Aah ginger beer! Reminds me of my childhood too , now and again I have one but nothing is as good the home made stuff my Nan used to make!

A glass of Ginger beer on the patio will help prevent sea sickness, as will standing under a tree. A supermarket manager told me that strangely sales of Corona beer are well down.

Yes Gordon Ramsay is apparently staying in his second home. Hope your Iona cruise goes ahead were keeping options of booking a autumn cruise this year with FCC  we have left as can't fit another one in next year due to holiday allowance.

Thanks, but I doubt it will. We got  in 2 long weekends away before this started.

    Stay safe, that's No1.

We have a caravan holiday booked by new forest for August, hoping this will go ahead something to look forward to . Our med cruise for May cancelled transferred to next July, also have a Fjords cruise booked from end May 2021 hoping that will be ok if is only one country ports, still have to get insurance for the 2 cruises couldn't get when booked as over year out and can't get now. We live in Cornwall you'll have a lovely time down here hopefully were be open to visitors then,

We are going to stay in the New forest for a few days on our way to Southampton for our Iona cruise on 29th August. Gary Barlow will be on board. Doesn't Gordon Ramsey live in Cornwall at the moment?.

Things are certainly improving been to our local Morrisons today and seen toilet rolls on the shelves for the first time in 6 weeks. Trouble is vegetable oil seems to be the "new" toilet rolls.

We went into our Morrisons today and saw pallets full of toilet rolls and we managed to get a packet of pasta. Nearly back to normal.

I've just cancelled our July Iona cruise, we were able to take the deposit paid as FCC. I actually thought that was pretty good, since I was cancelling and not P&O. They would have had every right to offer nothing

Good on them. If in a few weeks they offer FCC, I'll take it.

Cheap prices and free drinks packages(all inclusive) are a big temptation for lots of people including the younger generation who might have less funds to spend and be tempted to cruise, drink, eat and sunbathe.

Those youngsters. All they want to do is cruise, drink, eat and sunbathe. What are they like 😁

It is due to optimism that we will get back to some sort of normality quickly and hopefully we will.

We have seen this reflected in lack of availability for next year, but that is only because, like us, loads have booked at launch but possibly won't go, plus the transfers from this year.

    We all live in hope..

The reason I say that cruising will be one of the last things to get back to normal is the scrutiny it will be under after the poor press and the difficulty to social distance etc.

    Andy

Does anybody know how many cases of coronavirus have been reported on a P&O ship?

If the right cruise is on sale for next year at the right price with a £50 refundable deposit, what is the downside. Lockdown may be over, insurance/age sorted, if not, cancel.

Great film, hilarious, so old it's in black and white yet still relevant. When we watch it we look at some of the characters and say things such as "He's just like that bloke on we saw on Oceana........."

Out TV showed it in colour. If you give yours a bang it may be ok. Failing that try turning it off and on again. That often works.😁
