  1. Our daughter was about that age on her first cruise. We were surprised at how easy and relaxed a cruise vacation was with our kids. Generally, we all had breakfast together and my daughter chose to hang out with us at the pool throughout the morning. We typically hung out there (or at the water slides) long enough to grab lunch on Lido and then shower and rest a bit before the mid afternoon kids club activities started. Sometimes she would go, sometimes, she would nap depending on the activity, but she always wanted to be there for evenings. She did eat dinner with them a few times and loved being able to eat at the buffet with her friends. We required the kids to eat with us in the dining room on days we felt we didn't see much of them throughout the day.

  2. 1. pack less (I'm a notorious over-packer so for a cruise it was REALLY overkill.

    2. do not worry about the food. there is plenty to eat and you can find food 24/7. if you find yourself hungry on a cruise, you are the world's pickiest eater. it may not be 5-star for every meal, but do you eat like that at home?

    3. on your first morning, step outside, breath in the ocean air and prepare for an awesome day.

    4. there may be crowds/lines at times. relax.. you are on vacation and so is everyone else. enjoy yourself and do not sweat the small stuff.

    5. do not be afraid to join the fun. on our first cruise, my DH and I went to the Quest and the people sitting next to us were happy to invite us onto their team. we're a little shy about intruding on another party's space, but we had a blast with those nice folks playing the Quest.

    6. catch at least one sunset and one sunrise at sea.

    7. order the BLT and chocolate cake from room service. just because.

  3. Just read Jase (Jason) App will be staying on the Pride when John Heald gets off in two weeks.

where did you find this information? I've been anxiously awaiting the CD list for the remainder of 2015. And if Jace App will be CD on the Pride in August, I'd love to hear more about him. Anyone have experience with him?

  4. So strange that the CD list isn't published. Are they really shaking things up and moving people so frequently that publishing a long term list would be so difficult?

I heard John H is doing Pride's reposition but not sure beyond that.

  5. Because they want chicken or steak, which don't come in starter-size? Restaurants usually have a few nicer options on the kids menu like non-nugget chicken, steak bites, or quesadillas. If Carnival is revamping their menus, they might as well consider some changes in the kids menu, which might reduce waste. I wonder how many children order cheap foods from that menu versus adult dinners?

I hear what you are saying, and maybe its just me, but MDR portions aren't usually huge. I feel like they are reasonable or even on the small side.

  6. The items on the kid's menu aren't the only options for kids in the MDR. As other posters have said, they are free to order from the adult menu. I see that there has been further discussion regarding portion sizes. Why would you order multiple courses for your child if they can't eat those portions? Why not order a salad and pasta starter as their meal? I actually do think you're getting worked up over nothing. There are LOTS of options in the main dining room including to order appetizers as entrees if the actual entree portions are too large. My youngest was 6 on our last cruise and she almost exclusively ordered from the regular menus in the dining room. Salad and pasta, shrimp cocktail, soups, chicken, etc.

  7. Does anyone find this unusual?

I honestly do not know how far in advance the CDs are typically announced but the most recent listing I could find is at John Heald's blog, which runs through February... the month closes in a couple of days and no word of who will be where from March forward?

  8. I've been reading reviews and drooling and I"m fairly certain I'd like to try to book a spot on our upcoming sailing. But a few questions remain...

    1. From what I've read, it appears the entire experience lasts approximately 4 hours, is that correct?

    2. Is there a dress code? Or, when you've done the Chef's Table, how are the guests typically dressed?

    3. Is there a particular night that it is usually held?

    4. I can see that the experience opens with champagne. Is wine served throughout the meal and is it included in the price or do you order as you like from the wait staff?

Thanks so much... looking forward to our first chef's table experience!

  9. I've sailed both and just booked a 2nd sailing on Pride.

Breakaway is a beautiful ship and while we enjoyed our vacation, we didn't have the best weather and missed our stop at GSC. Of course taht didn't ruin our vacation, but for us, I think that Breakaway is just a little too big. And our daughter really didn't love the kids club. Huge ship = lots of passengers so the organized kids club activities got boring when you had to wait a long time for your "turn" to play or do anything. We also prefer the port of Baltimore over NY.

We're sailing Pride next but I'd probably be willing to sail Breakaway again.

  10. Our 3 boys loved Circle C on Sunshine, although they didn't attend many of the activities. I knew from reading other posts it was important for them to go the first night to meet the other kids. After that, they hung out or met up in Circle C a lot. There was a glow party they said was fun, and there was some kind of game/trivia where they won prizes like drawstring bags, flashlights, etc. They had so much fun, they preferred our Carnival cruise to the Disney cruise we took previously!

good to know, thanks for responding.

  11. Just want to clarify, that when I'm checking for price reductions on my sailing, I'm comparing to the cost of the CRUISE ONLY...

The "taxes, fess and port expenses" listed on my itinerary at Carnival dot com are not included in the total quoted on the Fair Viewer.

    Is that correct?

    TIA

  12. It sounds to me like "picky" eaters aren't thrilled with the new menus, but for people who are more adventurous and look forward to new foods and different flavors (Like ME) the new menus are a welcome change.

I hope they are rolled out fleet wide before my Pride sailing! :D
