  1. We booked with a 5% + 15% discount before I found out about the Healthcare discount. Being a nurse I then called and was given the email for existing reservations to email. I then sent in the required documentation and they applied the 20% healthcare discount, removed the 15% previous discount and we ended up owing $400.00 more than our original balance - they charged the current price as opposed to the day of the booking!  Long story short, it took 6 emails and 9 phone calls over 3 months to get it straightened out 2 days ago! Just be aware and print all your confirmations. Sending them a copy of my original confirmation was how I was able to finally get the mess cleaned up. Of course, I lost the extra 5%, butI would never have applied for it if I knew the hassle it would cause!

One item that is puzzling to me:  The article states that there will be no self-serve buffets.  On the MSC, and other, ships that have been sailing since last summer, the buffet is open, but the food and drink items are served by crew as passengers request them, not unlike many of the Lido items on HAL ships and others.

There is a big difference between closing a buffet entirely, and allowing a crew member to plate the food.

Which is it?  I guess we'll find out when the time comes.

We'll be sticking with our Fall cruises, as long as they are still happening, regardless.  None of the restrictions will dampen the joy of being on a ship again.

Agreed! I plan to stay on the ship if it sail 9/25 anyway! I've been to all the ports and will get off at Ocean Cay if we port there. If not, they can drift around for all I care...just want to be at sea!

  3. Being a nurse working with elderly patients through COVID-19, I can assure you that they can read your face, especially your smiles with a mask on!

My company has 62 facilities throughout New England and New York. In one close to me, 100% of residents were vaccinated and 11 have been since diagnosed with COVID. The jury is definitely still out on reinfection! We continue to wear masks, and I personally will gladly wear one on a cruise!!

As far as the 95% percent vaccination rate, besides children, there are people with health issues which contraindicate being vaccinated, as well as those who have religious beliefs that need to be taken into account. 100% of the population will not be vaccinated (unfortunately), nor will those sitting on the plane next to you or those in the hotel you might stay at. We all have our own comfort zones and that is how each of us will proceed!

Hope everyone stays safe and that we we be All Aboard soon!

  4. Thank you for posting! We are Platinum with NCL and booked Majesty to sail in May to experience NOLA and sailing out of it. I was a little worried until I read your post. Can't seem to find too much info on the website, but that could certainly could be me! I did read on CC that you could bring 2 bottles of wine on board per stateroom. Do you know if you pack it in your luggage or carry it on? Thanks again for your review.

I got a sinus infection out of it and my mom fared a bit worse. It was the most silly thing. We went hunting for tissues while in port. We bought a box before anyone got sick in our room too because it was just silly not to have them. I came down with the sinus issue in Curacao but luckily I travel with a small pharmacy so I had the stuff to treat it and kept it at bay for the rest of the voyage.

I hope your husband has a speedy recovery! It was such a beautiful ship but such a silly decision to dampen the cruise for so many.

Hope you and your Mom have recovered as we head in to the holiday season! My husband has recovered although we both seem to have residual coughs!

Did they still have a sanitizing person at the entrance to the Marketplace Buffet on your sailing? Also, did they finally provision all staterooms with tissues?

How ridiculous is the tissue thing?? We were on the 13 day sailing with you. My husband came down with pneumonia and we were told we couldn't get tissues! And it's not like they sell them on the ship! No wonder everywhere you went people were coughing and sniffling! But to be fair, they did give us 2 boxes after I inquired at customer service desk!

  7. We were on the 10/28 sailing and had the "easy" drink package. We had frozen drinks daily by asking for the alcohol free frozen drink with a shot of rum or whatever alcohol was appropriate to the drink. Same with  bloody marys. Buffet was very good, especially the pizza! All the children we saw in the main dining rooms seemed content with what they were ordering. Can't speak to the Kids Club....they don't allow senior citizens in!

  8. Just off The Gem today. We had an inside and had no problem. We always have the bed separated into two singles and it gives you plenty of room down the center to move around. In fact, we celebrated Mass with 4 others in the cabin (travelled with a priest) with no problem.

  9. We flew last May from Gatwick to Boston on a new plane and the flight itself was wonderful! However, buyer beware!! Be very mindful of luggage restrictions and be aware that they will weigh even a purse that you are carrying on! We couldn't understand why everyone was opening their luggage at the checkin counter and holding up the line until we got there! Took so long we didn't have time to eat before our flight. And then you go through a second baggage check at the gate and they hold you there like cattle behind plexiglass walls! As long as you are aware of the above and don't mind, the price can't be beat!

  10. We sailed to Bermuda the Friday after the hurricane hit last year. We didn't even know if we were being diverted to Canada until we sailed. We took a private 8 hour tour of Bermuda, and other than some downed palm trees and one closed road, you wouldn't even have known a hurricane hit days before!

  11. We have always had our dividers opened up when traveling with friends! Of course, we also give our steward a tip and small gift from home when we meet them on the first day whether we are in a balcony or an inside. And before everyone jumps on, no, it is not a bribe, it's a gift to say thanks for how hard you work!
