  1. We were up on top deck- don't count on getting a seat! I finally took one from the smoker's area on port side near front of ship - worked for me! I sat and stood from that chair and put it back when I was done - stayed away from smoke as I don't appreciate it! Glaciers calved the entire time - both side of ships. Felt Promenade deck was too crowded - even at the bow of deck 8.

  2. We went all around Cape Breton privately(we were going all over, not on a cruise!) and I can tell you that it is a very long drive with much construction going on, especially on the western side, in 2017. I wanted to go all around the whole area but realized afterwards that halfway would have been enough, just to the Northwest side of Cape Breton. This info is for anyone booking a private tour or going by personal car, as we did.

  3. Most on board credit is not refundable if not used on board. It depends on the source but some is held for any future cruises and other types are simply forfeited if not used “on board”. I have been on many Princess cruises and make sure I use it all up onboard for this reason. I have never received a refund.. This is stated in the “fine print”. Mike

My OBC came from the TA and was totally refundable as was $180 credit as the train was not running in Skagway. We did, finally, get the full return of $395 today, 7/10. Our cruise ended on June 2. As I say, if we owed them $395 of even $3.95 our visa card would have been charged immediately! I think they are unfair to hold this refund for such an extended time.

  4. We wore jeans(not ripped!) and a nice shirt on non-formal nights and khaki pants with really nice shirt and top on formal nights. This is Alaska - we just tried to avoid the more formal dining room - but we did not do dinner in the buffet! Some people were dressed up-we were not. Also, noticed that we would be put at a dining table(anytime dining) with similarly dressed people - that was OK with us!

  5. Sam, I took BQ's (and your) advice and phoned the lodge. The shuttle runs several times a day every hour to hour and a half. Since we arrive on the 4:40 p.m. train there will be a shuttle at 5:30, 6:30, 7, and 9 if we want to stay that evening. The shuttles start running the next morning at 7 a.m. There is no charge for the shuttle for lodge guests. Now I need to research what to do in Talkeetna!

Your info about the times of the shuttle are correct but there is a charge for the shuttle of $10 pp going from lodge to Talkeetna. There is no charge on the way from Talkeetna to the lodge as that is built into the $10 charge. I just returned from there in the beginning of June. You can either buy a ticket to go on the shuttle inside or you can just pay the traffic director outside before you get on the bus. When you first arrive from the train, you will not be charged for the ride to the lodge. Walk around Talkeetna - it is a cute town and you might prefer to eat there - you can safely walk on the roadway - there is a safe area to do that and not really much traffic!

  6. Had Alaska cruise and land tour and packed Tide pods and Bounce sheets so didn't have to buy ship's so we saved a little money - pretty $$ in laundromat but worth it to have clean clothes!

  7. We did not get a hard copy of our account until I called and got an email copy. Also, today I told travel agent that we did not get our TA OBC returned to us yet - and it is 5 weeks since we got off ship. She was going to look into this for us. As I have said before, if we owed them money, it would have been on our credit card immediately. Not sure why Princess is being so stingy in returning the credit - it is not like it is their money to hang onto. Our amount is $395 - not exactly small change.

  8. After seven weeks and three phone calls to Princess, my check arrived.

    Worth waiting for!!!

We are expecting $395 so will keep waiting! It has only been 3 wks since end of cruise! I did call and they told me 4-6 wks - I did remind them that if we owed them money they would have charged our credit card immediately and the CS person agreed that the wait is long but she could do nothing to expedite the process!

  9. IOn the Sapphire refit in March they replaced the carpets and you will see small red dots in the pattern on the port side (left facing the front) and small green dots on the Starboard side (Right side facing the front)

After a confusing day, the green and red dots were pointed out to us on the Star and we were no longer confused!!

  10. Still haven't gotten a copy of folio that we did not receive onboard. I will contact TA if we do not get $$$ as they paid it and it was refundable. Would have used it up if it weren't - I don't know how but we would have figured something out! We are not great shoppers of overpriced goods!! We weren't trying to save it, just got bunch of credit due to train not running at Skagway and couldn't spend it all!

  11. Thank you all for your response! The folio(which we were never given at disembarkation) did show "refundable" for the $400 and it was from TA and was really ours! I will definitely check the mail every day! We opened all of the junk mail that arrived while we were gone but never got any checks exc. for $2. from auto insurance. I did call Princess to get a copy of the folio and they are supposed to email it to me in 2 business days - which means by Tuesday, 6/12. I will not let it go! Previously on RCI, refundable OBC was put back on CC right away!

Thanks for all of your quick responses!

  12. We got $150 OBC which was used for Excursions - all used up.

$400 from TA -should be refunded

$180 for change from Skagway train to bus.

We spend about $180 and are still owed $400 from TA OBC. We landed 6/2/18 and started land cruise where nothing is charged to our account. When should we expect the approx. $400 to be returned to our credit card? I saw on account on ship that the $400 is refundable but never got a printed account from Princess! When does this refund show up on CC?

  13. Just returned from 7 day land/5 day land in Alaska and took Rollator. No problems on planes. I gate checked the Rollator but had wheelchair help through airports. DH pushed the Rollator and followed along the mostly long distance in the airports. Rollator was not damaged. Very pleased with procedure - no problems with airlines at any airport!

  14. Went NB Star Princess 5/26 followed by 5 day land cruise and needed winter clothes - coat, neck gaiter, hat gloves, for the two days of glaciers.(And we live in wintry CT) Rest of time didn't need any jacket or just a fleece. We were so lucky not to have rain!
