1. You're really stretching it if you think TA's routinely give that much OBC.

for a 7 night cruise

gratuities for 2 - $168

extra OBC - $100

spa (a guess) - $100

spec dining - $ 70

total $458

In order for a TA to cover that much OBC, the cabin would have to cost over $2800 base fare, plus non commissionable, plus taxes.

be happy you got gratuities

Actually, we got all that and a little bit of OBC for being a repeat client. Actually, I think the OBC was maybe from booking on previous cruise but we got everything else. Makes you wonder just how much the commission is!! We have always been happy with our TA - they answer calls and even reduce rate is there is a price drop.

2. Do the TA's actually pay the full amount of tips and specialty restaurants that they give as perks?? Only asking as we want to make sure our servers and stewards get the correct amounts as suggested by RCI and then we can tip extra as we please. ( We always do, anyway, just wanted to make sure everyone gets at least the suggestion)

3. Although I don't pack until much closer to trip, as I "almost" finish different lotions and perfume, I put the small quantity away so that I can take it with me and then toss the remainder at the end of the cruise! That way I have room (and airplane weight) for any extras I like!!

4.
It is docked. You do not need to swim unless you want to. The ride to the beach is exhilarating! Spencer's boat can really move! Have fun, you won't be sorry that you picked this excursion. Here is a picture of the beach.
Thank you - love a "go fast" boat!! Glad not to have to swim to shore!! -- Barbara
5. Hi Chickadee! Thank you! Yes, it's a bit chilly in NE right now ;)

This from CC Refurbishment page:

April 2016

During a 2016 dry-dock, Jewel will gain number of new restaurants (Asian, steakhouse, Italian), a new bar, the line's now signature Royal Babies & Tots Nursery, a poolside movie screen and flat-screen TV's in the cabins. Note: details are subject to change.

So you should get the "old ship", which I think is in pretty terrific condition!! The big change after 4/2016 will be the utilization of the WJ spaces, right now, its not crowded enough, you can actually get a seat, so that has to change:rolleyes: Im kidding, of course, but while I love that expansive WJ, you can see it's more space than they want for that use, so more dining options are coming!

You've got a long wait, but planning and dreaming is a great way to make the time pass :D

Ha!! I am on vacation and don't care about the flat screens as I don't watch TV on vacation, use computer, cell phones, etc (my kids are married and 28 and 30 so not in same position as you - in fact, DH and I are not in our late 50's!) Hope they don't take away the outside seating at WJ as enjoyed that a lot on Brilliance! Not worried about condition of the ship ( as long as it is seaworthy!), just glad that I'm away from home and don't have to plan meals for a whole week! Someone else is doing the cleaning and the cooking - sounds great to me - just add the sunshine and it is perfect!

6. Thanks for the wonderful review. I really enjoyed it, even though it will not be the same itinerary we will have on our 11/1/14 Jewel cruise - we are going to St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, Antigua, St. Lucia, and Grenada!

You kept mentioning the ship being updated - do you know when it is going into dry dock? Actually looking forward to going on this ship before the changes. We have been on the Brilliance and enjoyed that so know we will love this cruise, too. Actually, with the current temps in NE, wish we were on those warm islands now!!

7. Hi - me again!

Went to the website - spencerambrose.com which was very informative.

You say that you got to the beach early and were able to snag chairs. What is the situation for those people who were not there early enough to get chairs? We are a little older and would like to sit in a chair (so we don't look so foolish getting up!!) and we also wonder about shade/umbrella. Could please let us know what the situation is at Jalousie Beach?? Thanks, again!
8. Thank you for your review! We are going on JOS in November for our 40th anniversary and appreciate what you had to say. We will be stopping at St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John's, St. Lucia, Antiqua and Grenada so much of what you said was meaningful to us! This certainly is a port-intensive cruise.

Thanks so much for all the pix and info!
9. Hi - we last sailed on her sister ship, Brilliance, November 2012, and had a wonderful time and thought the ship was beautiful! We are sailing 11/1/14 on the Jewel to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary and are looking forward to it!! Good luck in deciding what you want to do!!

10. Have booked directly with RCCL and also through TA! Happy with TA - was able to get perks, they honored price drops, got credit for savings certificates. Only problem is $50 pp cancellation fee but that is small price to pay. We have been able to pick our own stateroom. Interestingly, although it didn't show it on the RCCL website, the TA said we were linked with another couple and when we were on the ship, we were linked - we all know about RCCL limitations!!

Have not had any problems!

11. So, I booked my first aft cabin (9660) on Jewel of the Seas next year (Nov 1). I have always been center of the ship. I truly wanted a hump cabin (i have had 2 dead-center hump cabins before), but they were not available. I now see 9576 on the end of the hump is available. I usually avoid those because I heard the balconies are smaller. However, I read a couple of old threads that said 9576 has a bigger balcony.

It appears 9660 balcony is much bigger than a typical hump cabin, but is it still bigger than 9576? Just curious. I'm pretty sure i'm staying where I am since I have not experienced an aft before. 9576 is near the elevators which is nice too ;-)

If anyone has a picture of 9576 I would love to see it :-)

HI - I am excited that someone else is going on this cruise!! My husband and I booked in August and no one has joined us on the Roll Call or Meet and Mingle(we might not have signed up for that one yet!)

Glad you are coming on this cruise and do go to Roll call for JOS and join us!! I am getting lonely!!

And by the way, we are in 9594!

12. Well, since I will be on that sailing, I also wrote to them but not until after 4 PM EST and have not received an answer yet. 11/2 is the beginning of a new sailing and I also know 11/12 and 12/2 is also in the middle of a sailing! I guess I will wait until I get an answer!! Let you all know when I do!
