  1. I disembarked May 5 but had been through Canadian customs in Victoria. I did self disembark at 7:55am, walked about 1 block to Canada Line station, a train was just leaving for airport (YVR). I have to transfer and ride a bus and was home by 9. Would have been at airport by 8:45. So if you get in the first or second walk off group and take your own luggage you should be fine. I always travel carry on only so that makes it easier. Sept 2 is a Saturday so traffic shouldn't be as bad if you choose another mode of transportation.

  2. In September we had to cancel a cruise for medical reasons. Same travel agent as OP and 3 weeks before cruise and no cancellation insurance. We contacted Cxxxxo travel and asked if we could move to another cruise in the future. They contacted RCI who said we could move as long as we went within 365 days. Same type of cabin or higher. We moved to a cruise 364 days later. Costing a few hundred more each but we're still going!! Good Luck with changing the date and the addition to your family!

We had to produce a Dr letter saying we were unable to travel.

  3. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm on a 15 day Princess cruise to Hawaii in April and have Anytime Dining. Were you asked when you arrived at the dining room if you were willing to share a table?

Yes, I was asked if I wanted to share and I did. When I was seated at the big table by myself and then moved about 10 minutes later I told the maitre D I would go eat in the buffet. I was told not many people wanted to share.

The first night I went to the dining room I lined up at 5:20, got to the door and was handed a pager, I asked but apparently no table had room to add 1 person. It turned out on this cruise people lined up at 4:30 every night for 5:30 dining!

  4. I have also recently disembarked Princess as a solo. Anytime dining was not a good experience. Once a table for 2, once a nice table of 8, and then seated by myself in the middle of the dining room at a table for 8. The waiter didn't want to serve me and said I should move. I finally got the maitre d attention and asked to be moved- to a table for 2. After that buffet 3 nights and specialty one night.

Next time, even if assigned dining is full (as it was on this trip), I will go to maitre D immediately upon boarding and ask for assigned dining.

It really was not a pleasant experience most of the time

  5. I got off the Ruby Princess Feb 4 at San Pedro. I had pre booked the Princess excursion Long Beach on your own and the excursion ticket was in my mail slot when I boarded. We met at the theatre at 8:30 and had a very quick disembarkation. All the luggage was loaded on a bus, we were driven to the Long Beach Aquarium and dropped off, our luggage remained on the bus. There is a free hop on hop off bus there and a large mall right across the street. At 12:15 the bus (which had parked off site) returned and picked us up and drove to the airport.

    Very smooth and worked well

  6. I agree with Stone Island. Wide hard sand beach. lots of restaurants where you use their chairs if you drink or eat there - you can rent all kinds of sports equipment or just wade out into the water.

I don't remember it being super noisy or super quiet. I only know it was really nice and pretty rustic and not busy at all the day we were there

  7. We did the Flam Railway in May 2016. Very close to where the ship docks. It was a fabulous trip with wonderful scenery. I can't remember the exact duration but was pretty much on time. I guess as long as you disembark In time you will be fine. No reserved seats, there was a line which got very long.

I can't comment on the RIP boat ride other than it looked really good.

  8. I had a similar situation just a few months ago with a Royal Caribbean cruise. No insurance and after final payment date. I called the travel agent and as I knew there would be no refund, asked if we could move the cruise to a future date. RCL allowed this as long as the cruise was within 365 days and in a similar room. We moved to a cruise 364 days later and hope to travel in Sept 2017.

You have nothing to lose by asking for a move to a future date and hopefully Princess will accommodate you.

I am a survivor also and can not even tell you how happy I was to be able to go on a cruise after my treatment.

Have my fingers and toes crossed for a successful outcome from the treatment and a wonderful holiday afterwards.

  9. I seem to remember the reason we booked Zuiderdam over Princess the first time was $$$ related. Same thing- we got a great balcony for same price as ocean view on Princess. Prices dropped and we ended up in the aft balcony. Coral princess we were in an inside cabin close to aft, was a last minute standby sale deal. There was a large public aft balcony on our floor where we spent a fair bit of time so the inside cabin was fine.

  10. I have done this trip on both ships. Sorry, I can't remember the lectures. Coral has my favourite show ever, On the Bayou in the smaller venue, I have seen it several times and would love to see it again. Zuiderdam we had aft balcony but had flushing problems with the toilet. The cabin itself was fine and to be in an aft balcony was wonderful, amazing location going through canal. Coral was in an inside cabin but the ship is made for the canal and so many great viewing locations.

I enjoyed both trips and would gladly take either ship again.

  11. We were at Oceankaj in May/June this year. Took the bus from Hotel Bethel and were dropped a few steps from checkin. We got right on the ship but I think it would have been simple to get back on the bus and go sightseeing. The checkin was the quickest and smoothest ever. Staff was polite and efficient and the people taking your bags were very businesslike.

  12. Just a warning for Canadians using ATMs in Europe.

I recently returned from Ireland and using my debit card withdrew 220 euros from an ATM. Fine no problems. However when I received my statement it showed I had withdrawn 249 euros. When I pointed out this discrepancy to my bank they said this is what some banks in Europe are doing now. They convert it to US dollars and give the rate on that.

This is the first time this has happened even years ago when our dollar was low. Plan to order from my bank and take euros with me for my next trip.

Hello, I just returned from Amsterdam and Denmark and the same thing happened, my eeuro withdrawal was converted to USD then converted again to CDN. my CREDIT UNION who explained to me that I took money from a bank, not a credit union and so I got hit with the double conversion. My husband took money from his bank account and did not get converted to USD first. Maybe this is the explanation for you too.

  13. HI Holly,

We stayed at Cabinn after the cruise also and agree completely - lobby ok but room so tiny for the 2 of us and also we found it incredibly hot and really unable to sleep because of that. The breakfast was a zoo!

I much preferred our hotel pre cruise - Hotel Bethel which was only a little bit more but everything was so much better. The only thing Cabinn had going for it was that it was close to Tivoli and the train station and that is why we picked it.

I agree with Deefer. The meet and greet was really good and you did a great job. Thank you very much for that.

  14. We are doing Abu Dhabi to Singapore in January. We are flying Emirates to Dubai, they offer a free shuttle to Abu Dhabi where we stay for a couple of days pre cruise. We visit Dubai as a port stop on the cruise. I would think if we stayed in Dubai we would book a transfer to the port. I know there is at least one company that does this

  15. Thank you for this. We didn't get any perks from the TA, we got our choice of a few options and we chose gratuities, would have gotten them with either option. I really don't recall if there was a price difference in booking the single cruise, if there was it was minimal, like $100 each. Ironically, the reason I chose the TA was because I am Canadian and NCL only shows online prices in US$. We always book in Canadian. I have had an NCL rep call frequently and email even more in the past and it was hard to stop and I didn't want it to get started again. I have recently found a new big warehouse Canadian travel site that does give more perks so might have to try that. I will call upswell again and I have sent an email to NCL customer service asking if there is anything that can be done, I am trying to pay for an upgrade, not get a free one.

  16. I called Norwegian who told me to call my travel agent.

I called my travel agent who phoned Norwegian - Here is the story she was told. Apparently this was originally a 16 day cruise, Norway and then Baltic. It wasn't selling well so it has now been split into 2 cruises, 7 day to Norway and 9 day to Baltic. There are now no Balcony or higher cabins available for the full 16 days in the same cabin. I advised we are fine for 2 separate cabins but that is a no go.

I told the agent when I booked (of course I don't have a screen shot) it showed the 7 day cruise, the 9 day cruise and a 16 day cruise. I guess I got booked on the 16 day because that would have only been one form to fill out or who knows. We booked the cruise Sept 1 2015.

Anyway, because the 2 consecutive cruises have been booked as one, that means there will be no paid upgrade for us. I do not plan on using this travel agency again and will always book individually when doing B2B cruises. I usually book with the cruise line direct because I like to be able to talk to them directly, with no go between.

    Lesson learned.

  17. Hello all,

I am looking for some advice about possibly getting a better room on an upcoming cruise.

We booked through a Canadian TA. 2 cruises back to back.

For some reason it looks like it was booked as one cruise of 16 days, not a 7 day and then a 9 day.

We are in an oceanview room - the date for the cruise is approaching and I would like to move to a balcony. It does not appear that there is a balcony room available for the full 16 days but there are balconies for the 7 day and then different ones for the 9 day cruise.

I did call the upsell department and they said no rooms available. Is the fact that this is booked as one long cruise going to be an issue? We do not mind if we have to change to a different room after the first cruise.

Does anyone have any experience with this or any suggestions other than calling the upsell department?

    Thank you
