I’ve seen many comments about “older” cruisers making up a huge percentage of the cruise line clientele but I haven’t seen any polls on it.

I’m also sure this poll might have different results depending on the cruise line itself but for the fun of it, if you are willing, please join in. I am 34 and my hubby is 43 for those curious.

My curiosity stems from all the talks about the req. 70+ doctors note and having never sailed on Celebrity yet (due to covid cancellations).

Seems you were right,   most cruisers are old. 🤷‍♂️

An article from USA Today, which I found which supports, to some degree, my thoughts on sailing many of us who have a 'strong' desire to return to the seas! 😊

It may pan out or not, but there are enough passengers ready, willing, able and booking cruises while waiting to find out if it is a go or not and then re-booking if that particular sailing is cancelled.

Please note: this is only one (1) source of info and there may be others out there which either support or debunk the thesis contained therein.

    bon voyage

It’s lees about their ability to fill ships, more about them being able to do so safely and actually having somewhere to cruise to.

  3. People need to realise the world as it was before COVID19 is not the world we will re enter on the other side. There will be cruising again at some point but I think next year at the very earliest and it won’t be as it was before.

Also need to think about the appetite of ports to open to cruise ships again. Its highly likely to be extremely muted and that will greatly restrict the movements of any sailings that resume.

The virus is not going away any time soon and if you look to other countries that got on top of it early and then relaxed, the second wave was worse than the first.

  4. Pretty poor form from Celebrity. They know that these cruises won’t be going ahead, like most cruises probably won’t be this year. A bit like extending the cancelled cruises but not the cruise with confidence program date. Holding customers deposits to ransom is unconscionable.

I work in a super market in Fl. and while we are aware of the danger we all face, we refuse to get sorrowful. We still laugh and joke with each other, and with customers we know well. Most of our customers acknowledge what we are doing and thank us, It's very rewarding, and I refuse to go into he sky is falling mode. If I get famed

for this, so be it. By the way, I'm 77 years old, and I am a realist.

And good on you, don’t ever change.

In Australia and particularly our state South Australia, current infections are low and "only" 75 deaths Australia wide. But our economy is stuffed and we are now in massive debt. So while we appear to be well ahead of the Covid curve, I'm not into funny mode either.

Do you even know what was said that was so funny or just jumping on for the sake of it?

Sorry but at the moment not very much is funny where I live. ( not NYC)

The morgue is over capacity, 2 temp refrigerated truck morgues are full and they are converting an old meat processing plant  to a temp space for 300 to 400 bodies. Tragic on a huge scale!

gee, does that make anyone lighten up?

So you think everyone being sad and miserable is going to help the situation how exactly? I am not immune to what is going on in the world...you just choose to drown in the sorrow of it all but yet still find time to discuss cruises? Cruising at a time like this seems pretty immaterial don’t you think based on your logic?

Perhaps this is not a particularly funny time.  I do not know where you live in Melbourne but I live on the east coast of the US. Just curious how many of your loved ones are without jobs right now, some simply fired.  Also many can’t leave their homes and fingers crossed having groceries delivered to their front doors if lucky.  Finally thousands are dying each day.

Not sure how you find humor in this, I sure as he££ don’t.

How ridiculous....people are still aloud to have a laugh in the face of adversity, for some it’s quite therapeutic.  Try and lighten up.

  9. Can’t see it happening and Carnival will know that. Problem is if they put a restart date too far out it erodes confidence. if they don’t have a restart date at all it erodes confidence....and so it goes.

Even if they were to start sailing...where are they going to go when nobody wants their ships?

I can’t even see a cruise season at all in Australia this year which starts in October, considering one in ten infections here is from a cruise ship and over 15 have died from one ship alone. They are on the nose big time.

  10. As others have said, I would wait and do nothing until June and assess the situation then. Certainly no need to get on the front foot and cancel now. Celebrity may not be sailing by then so you would get 125% FCC or money back or if they are then you may yet be covered by the Cruise with Confidence program which could well be extended beyond its current cut off Sep 1.

I am not sure people are being mean....I think it's being real.

Certainly not being mean, just being a realist. People thinking things will be like before and just return to normal is being foolish as well as encouraging people to plonk deposits on future cruises in the valiant  hope that it might save the cruise line somehow is irresponsible.

There is a very real scenario that Celebrity might not survive this crisis.

My opinion and advice wont be welcome however

    1. The lack of income and continuing overheads are unsustainable. Government assistance will not be forthcoming due to ports of registration etc.

    2. Many cruise lines will file for bankruptcy in the coming weeks.

    3.  FCC's, deposits and payments will vanish as unsecured creditors

    4.  Grab a refund if at all possible

    5.  If you can afford to lose deposits and payments, carry on, otherwise do nothing.

Agree with your points, the public doesn’t owe Celebrity anything. Do what is best for yourself, not anyone else. The money is better in your pockets than a potentially bankrupt cruise line.

Some people around here are living in fairy land.

To add to this story...another two passengers from the Ruby Princess died in Australia today.

Another interesting note is that they are saying patient zero was a crew member in the galley. Will be interesting to see the implications for Carnival if true.

It is absolutely true that cruise ships are just one form where crowds come together and the virus could spread fast and easily. Beside plans e.g. busses, trains, stadiums, fun parks, big hotels and beach resorts are no different and provide the same risk.

Simply not true, the area that cruise ships differ is that your are confined to a small space with many thousands of people for a long period of time and can’t escape. The other examples you mention you can easily remove yourself from, not so easy on a cruise ship.

Ah, OK. So it is your personal opinion and not accredited statement?

    No more than speculation then...................

Where did I say it was an a accredited statement? Most comments in here are opinions. 🤦‍♂️

We must be in the minority.  We have 4 2021 cruises booked, none to use a FCC.  We now have a FCC which we will apply to 1 of them or we may book a late 2020 to use the FCC.

Do you honestly think that this community represents the majority?  Anybody that has never been on a cruise won’t step foot on one now, not for a long time. Even those like me that have been on many will second guess going until there is a vaccine or at least the back of the virus is broken.

I suppose you have no idea what cruise addiction is about. I have already used up my FCC and yet I am still looking for more cruises to book in 2021.

You do realise you are the minority? Most people will prioritise their health over cocktails.

Of course.  With 2 months of cancellations with tens of thousands of FCCs that expire at the end of 2021; people are booking 2021.  If the FCCs did not expire until 2022, do you think bookings for next year would be up?

This point exactly. Don’t assume people will actually take these cruises, they are probably parking their FCC somewhere for now.

The problem with some responses on CC is that from time to time, members state their opinion as if it were fact.

I think for some, they will likely not cruise until there is a vaccine.  However, this will not apply to everyone and IMO, cruising will resume before there is a vaccine.  Science is hopeful that a vaccine will solve the problem, but the truth is, nobody knows until the vaccine trials are over.

I was stating an opinion that quite frankly makes a lot of sense. Cruiselines will continue to request clearance from over 70s until a vaccine is found because they don’t want to put themselves or their passengers at expose risk.
