  1. And you've been on Celebrity how many times? Once?

Indeed, it IS Celebrity, not Carnival. One comment from a passenger should not be used to judge a cruise line. Otherwise, bring a travel umbrella.

Nor should posts from people on this forum, which surely constitute less than 1% of carnival's cruise passengers, "be used to judge a cruise line". A cruise line, which may I interject, you have never stepped foot on and yet seem to have certainly formed an opinion regarding, and use that preconceived notion to lambast and lecture those who actually do like and sail on it regularly.

I am still at a loss for why on earth you frequent this board what seems like multiple times daily, to do as much.

  2. If you enjoy a balcony, 7416. It is what is often called a 'bowling alley' balcony because it is so long, about 3x the size of a normal balcony. It won't be as deep as the aft facing but the huge size makes up for it imo. On the other hand if you find yourself staring at the wake for hours maybe you'd prefer the aft facing. I'd pick 7416 any day though

  3. It's always been the alu. Bottles don't want broken glass all over

That's not entirely true. They have had beer in glass bottles, and they have been included with cheers. For example, corona and bass. If you are near the pool they may pour it into a cup for you. If not, like in a lounge or the theater, I have been given glass bottles.

  4. Did you make this chart up (I know the classes are correct, just wondering if you did it or got it from Carnival.com)? I don't think I have not seen this before.

It's official from carnival. I found it somewhere on the .com and made a JPEG out of the PDF a while ago. Pretty nifty, huh? [emoji41]

  5. You do it at any point before sailing. Check the prices via a mock booking or fareviewer, etc.

Do NOT expect any upgrades available even for fee at check in.

You may get a call from the 'upsell fairy' - offers to upgrade at a reduced rate - but that's not likely.

Just watch prices and if you see an upgrade that is at a price you like, do it.

  6. That's why they need to change it from Piano BAR to Piano LOUNGE, where (at least until say midnight or so) kids are welcome.

No, they do not NEED to change it to anything. Changing it from BAR to LOUNGE may suit your personal need in this regard, but it does not change the fact that the space's function is a BAR, and they make their money that pays for it by selling ALCOHOL, not cokes to 10 year olds.

My understanding has been that bar / lounges are supposed to be 18+ after 10 or so. It should stay that way in my opinion. Kids should not be welcome until midnight as you propose, in a bar that is open until 1.

I've seen kids in the piano bars around open until before 10, and the entertainer has to hold back. And I'm sorry, but the only people that enjoyed the song from frozen and Hakuna Matata from lion king were those kids and their parents. One entertainer literally breathed a sigh of relief when the kids left. It is not a space for kids. It is a BAR. That is why it is called the piano bar, not camp carnival piano lounge.

I don't mean to be forward but you've stated a proposal and I am offering dissenting feedback. I am not demanding that I be able to use the camp carnival, camp ocean, club o2 or any of the other kids spaces. They are age controlled and off limits to me. So should bars be, for reasons I think should be obvious. Changing names from bar to lounge or justifying there are family friendly comedy shows also in 'lounges' really seems like grasping for justification that validates what you want / suits your needs. Adults without kids have needs too. The piano bar, for the most part, is ours. [emoji6]

  7. Just a little information about this ship. It was in the mist of being built by Costa when they got into financial trouble. Carnival bought the ship from them, hence why it is not designed like other Carnival ships. Then Carnival purchased Costa altogether.

That is sequentially out of order and a few years from being accurate.

Carnival acquired Costa in 2000. Splendor's first cruise was in 2008.

It is true that splendor was to be built for Costa, as a Concordia class ship, which itself is a direct derivative of the conquest class. It was redirected from Costa to carnival given capacity demand.

However, it's not as if carnival bought one laid up ship then the whole line. They bought the line first and accordingly built several ships for Costa, based on their pre-existing designs for the destiny, triumph, conquest and spirit class, and tweaked the conquest class to yield the Concordia class as they did the others to better suit the market.

  8. Elation doesn't have standard balcony cabins, but it does have suites which I specified. ;)

I just checked and none of the suites are designated for HA, although as I mentioned, I primarily just need the room for the scooter.

The other consideration for the ha cabins is not just 'room for the scooter' but also a door wide enough for it to get through. I don't know much about scooters but I know that one of the modifications for the ha cabins are wider doors for that reason. Just something to consider.

  9. Yes, I have and will again. However, I don't see how that should have any bearing on your situation. It really is a personal decision based on your own situation, and you're the one most qualified to make it. Do a little math based on your preferred drinks and likely consumption and it should be pretty apparent whether it's a good fit for YOU.

  10. While I do not know for certain, I asked someone in management and the reply was that they would leave the west coast with just Fantasy class ships.[/color]

Didn't 'someone in management' repeatedly tell you in unequivocal terms, seemingly on multiple occasions, that the carnival cruise line brand would never, no way, no how, compete in the China market not so long ago, too? :)

  11. this cruise, and the pride out of baltimore could be easily canceled. I'm leaving for a cruise out of NOLA on the 4th. I fly he 3rd. they are forecasting 6 inches of rain and 55 mph winds here in charlotte. I may be driving to NOLA

They almost never entirely cancel cruises for weather related issues. Where there's a will and millions of dollars on the table, they typically find a way even if it is not ideal.

Even a shortened / lengthened or cruise to nowhere is more likely than a full out cancellation

  12. They might as well start painting big lips on the front of the fantasy class ships like Aida does, because the phrase 'you can put lipstick on a pig', but it's still a fantasy class ship comes to mind.

Carnival is the only major line continuing to put money into a 25 year old class of ships which are so far apart from their contemporary counterparts. A burger joint, tacos and a few new bars will not change that.

In this case it's serving a new market, well really resuming serving a market they used to... So that's good. But really, at some point they need to start thinking about moving on.

  13. I always cruise solo and it's ridiculous I have to pay for two people. When people ask who I cruised with I tell them "I never met him/her as they were invisible, but I know they were there because I had to pay their cruise fare".

It's discrimination against single people plain and simple. Hotel rooms don't charge single hotel guests double, why do cruise lines? It's a hotel on the sea.

It's not ridiculous it's simply a different manner that they advertise their prices.

Cruise lines advertise their prices per person so that it appears more affordable. When a solo books a room, they take 2 beds. Can kcal could sell the same room to someone with two paying customers, who also will both likely spend money outside of the cruise fare on board - such purchases, which effectively is the majority of their profit.

Further, sure cruise lines charge per person unlike land based hotels, but have you booked a land based hotel recently? Even a holiday inn in the suburbs / off an interstate can cost 200/night (true story, that was the going rate for the last hotel stay I booked)... And that doesn't include good, entertainment, etc.

I understand your frustration, and I'd jump on some solo deals myself, but I understand why it is why it is... And versus the 200/night holiday inn, it is still a better value. Many cruises can be had for 50/nt/pp.

Check out the link down thread for some of the reduced solo supplement cruises, they update it somewhat frequently

  14. it just seems very odd for the Pride to only be in Tampa for 2 months, then go back to Baltimore. Just keep the Pride in Tampa and when they want to Miracle to come over, move it to Baltimore.

It's not very odd at all. Pride commands higher fares out of Baltimore than pretty much any Florida port week over week most of the year. Carnival has access to a larger market share in the mid Atlantic region by basing pride in Baltimore than it does basing yet another ship out of one of the several Florida ports, a market which is over saturated and dilutes pricing.

The only time Baltimore is perhaps not as competitive (though I bet vs most of the Florida ports it still is, just not exponentially more profitable, as it typically is) are the deep winter months of January and February). So they're taking the opportunity to play with some longer cruises and seasonal sailings from Tampa. This should be good news to people in Tampa, but I think it's more received as 'no we want it ALL' the time.

Carnival thinks its not odd and is more profitable in Baltimore. Tampa already has another ship, and more than half the fleet is based out of the several other ports within easy driving distance. Why would it make more sense to just throw pride to a lower revenue port in an over saturated market, and alienate the millions of people in the drive in mid Atlantic / northeast market? Especially since they've already reduced sailings out of New York to a short season that includes canada? THAT would be odd...
