  1. My boys have done Alaska twice and have had a great time! As long as they know it wont be beaches and lots of sun. They should have a good time. Both times we went we were on Holland America, sure the kids would have loved to have the flow rider but they managed with just a pool. I just asked them both if they would go do another Alaska cruise "Yes" was the answer. My boys are both outdoor type kids and they enjoyed all the ports.

  2. Do the Royal with the kids! Save the Celebrity for you and spouse. We have been on both and the vibe is different.

My kids have been on several different lines and they like Royal "Liberty". We did a last minute cruise last year (6 days out) and my sons were happy to go on a cruise but on the drive down to Houston they were upset that we were not going on Carnival "Magic". Still not sure what they were thinking when we said Royal Caribbean but something along the lines of Holland America. They have been on 2 Holland cruises and loved them but that was Alaska so not all about running around in bathing suit.

We are planning a cruise for the summer and it is coming down to a Royal Caribbean cruise. I wanted to go on Oasis class ship. Harmony has it all but we decided we didn't want to fly, so back on the "Liberty".

As far as food goes we were very pleased with the quality of the food last year, I thought it was slightly better then Carnival but did miss a couple of things that Carnival does better on the food front. It has been a few years since we have been on Celebrity. We loved it but the kids would not have enjoyed that ship, if it is just hubby and I Celebrity would be at the top of our list.

  3. Just off the Liberty. Have two boys 14, 16.

Formal night you will be fine. Casual night my boys had shorts or khakis on. They both had "collard shirts" with either shorts or pants. I think the younger one had shorts on and my older had khakis on for the casual nights.

We saw all kinds of dress in the dinning room from what I would call sport shorts to the nines.

As long as you are comfortable in what you have on you will be fine.

  4. Just curious, why does it matter if your card is red or gold? Mine is gold but as far as I know I don't get anything special for it.

You get to go to the past guest party if you are gold and above!!!!

My kids love the fact that they have gold cards and go to the party with pride. Give me a couple of free drinks and a walk down memory lane (they show pictures of other ships in the fleet)

  5. We have been on 2 Alaska cruise's, both on HAL. Both cruise's I had my kids with me, was worried about cliental and type of ships compared to Carnival, all my kids had known. We had a blast on both ships, had great itenaraies, great passengers and wonderful sights. Hal knows what they are doing and are great at it.

  6. When we are in Cozumel, we go to Paradise beach. We were going before they put the pool in and continue to go, my two boys love the water toys and I usually take a kayak out. Some of the best shrimp ceviche, a must for us when we go. I have not found it overly crowded, was very worried that when they put the pool in that it would be a mad house. plenty of room and all ways a chair on the beach or by the pool.

Grand Cayman, if this is your first time I would take the trip out to the stingrays and snorkel, We took the kids last time we went and they still talk about it. I wouldn't take the ship but go independent. I think my dh and I are going to do this tour again but with two snorkel stops ($40-$45pp).

Montego Bay, still looking for something to do on our upcoming cruise. We have done Dunn Falls (15 years ago). I hope someone chimes in.

  7. The hotel that we have stayed at for the last 5 years is no longer available to us. This has thrown us for a loop. This was a last minute cruise we booked on Saturday and we fly to MIA on Wednesday get on the ship Thursday. I went to book the hotel last night and it is not in the system. I know when we first started to cruise out of MIA not a lot of hotels did airport and POM. We found one and we have never gone anywhere else.

Looking for a hotel that will pick us up at the airport MIA and then take us to the port the next morning. Would prefer a marriott brand hotel or Choice brand hotel. We have points for both brands. Free is good.

I am starting all over and just have a day to book us a room. I dont want big and fancy (If it is cheap then ok) just a place to sleep and that will get us to the POM by11.
