Just read an article regarding the US Senate hearing with the CDC, regarding its blind opposition to cruising in the US. It is disgusting that the CDC will not reconsider their October 2020 decision shut down, which was ordered before the vaccine was approved.
They refuse to accept that the covid vaccine is a game changer.

They refuse to hear the Senators, claiming that the decisions are coming from DOT.

They refuse to reconsider, which is based on antiquated information.

They refuse to understand that they are punishing the American cruisers, as well as the cruise lines.
What can we, the public do to change this course of inaction by the CDC.
My husband and I love to cruise. We are in our 80’s. It’s so easy for us to be able to sail out of Miami. No flying necessary.

But, I guess if we have to, we will fly to board a ship outside of the US.

CDC... wakeup and start serving the public you are supposed to be protecting!

The CDC exists to insure that best practices are put in place to further ensure that transmission of dangerous pathogens does not wipe out the population, as they have in centuries past.

The CDC is not the enemy.

It's not really necessary for MUTS and the ships musicians to raise the sound level to 10,000 decibels.

If every thing else about cruising to Alaska is a go, the PVSA, Jones Act, would be the least of their worries.  There is an exemption for the Caribbean, so temporary exemptions could be possible.  There is also a fine for situations (prior to COVID) when someone gets on or off a ship prior to the foreign port.

It would be interesting to know what has caused this new restriction for Canada.

They are really mad about the cancel of the pipeline and it could be part of it

We will be with you SusieQft!  Regent just applied our FCC from our canceled Alaska cruise to this sailing.  This will be a perfect cruise to test the waters.  We can easily drive to the Port avoiding air travel.  I can taste the Margaritas already.

We will be joining you and also no flying

  7. We were on the fateful trip and have never see this many children in my life.  There were about fifty to sixty children screaming constantly throwing footballs nocking over dishes the keyboard of the singers and damaged it. I never saw one parent say lower your voice, don't run, respect other people stop screaming ever. Worse than that on the first day we see parents changing diapers on the chais

I never saw one parent say lower your voice, don't run, respect other people, stop screaming ever.  Worse than that on the first day we see parents changing diapers on the chase lounges, and the same people take the diaper off the baby and put them in the pool. You would not want to swim in that or in the hot tubs and the kids took over the both. The rest of us were shocked and many made complaints in person and in mid cruise questionnaire. I spoke to one of the Officers and he said there was not anything they could do and it is about the money. We have taken this cruise two years ago and it had about ten children no infants and were very behaved. This new deal that the children go for free or a much lower rate will bite Regent in the pocket. It is wrong to bring that many infants and young children on this size ship when the oldest kids are under ten. We have many cruises booked with Regent and so did the people we spoke two said they will be looking to another cruise line and canceling booked cruises. If this goes on I will join them.  We love Regent but this can not go on. Are you Listening Regent ?

  9. For people saying that they can't eat shellfish, that knocks out 2 of the dinner items and settling for the other choices that are offered instead makes no sense to me. You are paying top dollar for the "experience" of LPC (the little video on your plate that accompanies each coarse)

If you order the substitute items, you get nothing but your plate of food and no "show"

The concept is cute, but the choices are nothing special and the limited menu makes it not worth it.

If they had more choices, that included the concept, then it might be something to check out, but the way it is now, we'd never eat there.

When you substitute you still get the show

  10. That's very good to know, but isn't part of the issue, though, not the food substitutions, but rather that the gimmicky chef video only ties in to that "menu extraordinaire"? So you would be paying big bucks to see this dancing chef prepare and serve a meal that is not the meal you would be eating?

    Just trying to understand...

It was a fun experience and it was ok that I ate something else and because we are in a suite we pay nothing

  11. That’s fab !! My hubby is the same . So he will just ask for the onion soup and the sea bass as substitute and keep the rest of the main menu . Do you think they will be ok with that?

No problem they will work with you and when you tell them you are allergic they will tell the chef so that there is no cross contamination.

  12. A little surprised the menu is so limited. My partner is allergic to seafood...so this would be a conundrum...

I am allergic to all shellfish and we went to LPC they offered a substitute and I had the sea bass which was great. They will work with you with no problem.

  13. My Wife and I both have allergies to almost all perfumes that gives us both instant headaches and breathing is also compromised. There are many people that ware way to much perfume, you know it is two much when they walk by you and the sent does not go away for 8 minutes. We have also found many staff members with way to much perfume. We have turned away from the elevators many times because it is full of perfume with no one in it. The problem at dinner is that we will be seated and then someone is seated next to us with a gallon of perfume and we don't want the server to have to relocate us which is a hassle. We would love if they did a no perfume cruise but We doubt it will ever happen.

  14. We agree that the post regarding bad food/entertainment was his opinion, but totally disagree. We ate at all the venues, and rated the food very good. The lido had a great selection, and the DR food was good to very good as well. Really don't understand the bad extreme comments; just an ax to grind. Compared to all our other cruise line experiences, the Royal was equal in quality to the food on Celebrity/Holland/MSC. If don't like something, then request another choice. Entertainment choices were varied and again some may be more enjoyable than others, but none were terrible. Too many self-absorbed, whiners and cry babies on cruises these days, just a poor reflection of the current status of human nature.

    How right you are

  15. On my last Alaskan pre-cruise tour, Celebrity had an individual who stayed with our group for the five days prior to the cruise itself. He was basically the defacto chaperone, guide, and overall jack of all trades. My DW and I tipped him quite well as he earned it. Of course some individuals just conveniently forgot about him on the last day prior to embarkation. I have been searching my brain cells if there is a basic guideline for gratuities for this position. Will be venturing back to Alaska this August. Thanks in advance for you help.

    Alan

Hi Alan, on our last pre-cruise tour we did tip our guide and our bus driver. You do spend a lot of time with them and we also went to the bars together and dinner. We really liked them, and our guide is now a Ranger in Denali who we will look up when we stop there.

  16. Hi all,

My wife and I are ready to try the more upscale ships. We started out with a boom-boom spring break to the Bahamas ( Carnival big mistake). We are late 50's and the cruise age was 20.

I post this on the Princess forum because a lot of Princess cruisers have done upper scale cruise lines and in my opinion have the best overall experience.

Our 2,3,4 cruises were on Princess out of San Francisco on the Golden and we enjoyed it very much. The ship was kinda old but the staff was wonderful.

We are now ready to upscale to Oceania, Chrystal, Regent and other high end cruisers. We are more than willing to pay for excellent service and food. Hence an upscale cruise line. We want it all. Sorry we don't want to seem snotty.

    Our problem:

We booked the grand suite on the Princess $1000 p/day (Golden) but it was really lame service. Suite L302

The breakfast menu was the same as everyone else and no perks at all for booking the grand suite. You booked the grand suite- but don't expect anything more.

We really want a beautiful suite and all the perks with fine dining , which in your opinion cruise line does it the best?

We've heard that some cruise lines require suit jackets after 6pm??

We realize that food is subjective. We don't want to be nickel & dimed but are willing to pay top dollar for top service.

No kids- no boom boom party cruises, basically old timers like us that want to relax in style with perfect Gin & Tonics.

Does it exist? Sorry for being long winded.

    Thanks to all for replying.

We have sailed with Royal, Princess, Celebrity and Regent. Our favorite is now Regent, the food and service is outstanding and with 24 hours in advance they will make you anything you want. It is all inclusive. the ships we sail on have only 750 people. But you may get hooked when you go the first time
