  1. I understand that this poster went through a very difficult time on Regent. However, this happened 6 months ago and I keep reading about the incident on other cruise line boards and now it suddenly reappears here - after several months. I do not recall this situation happening prior to or after this incident.

Regent takes illnesses very seriously. As frustrating as it may be to quarantined passengers, this is done for the sake of other passengers. Food poisoning can present itself as other, more contagious illnesses. I do not blame Regent for how they handled it. If the person that shares your suite gets sick and it could potentially be contagious, both of you will be quarantined. That is the way it is. No one wants to be around someone that is contagious!

We were on a Regent cruise where many passengers had gastrointestinal complaints (my DH was one of them as was the Captain and G.M.). At some point you need to either stop cruising on Regent (as this poster has apparently done), or get over it. Someone I knew had norovirus on Crystal -- stopped cruising with them for a few months and has since returned. These type of things happen on cruise lines and is why it is so important to wash your hands frequently, use the sanitizers that are available on the ship and watch what you eat when you are ashore.

I feel badly for this poster, for my DH, for the Captain and G.M. and anyone else that has been ill on a cruise ship. However, holding on to the negative experience does not help anyone. What does help is reminding posters of the steps to take when onboard a cruise ship to prevent this from happening. One tip I learned has to do with the buffets. Everyone handles the serving spoons on the buffet. If someone has something as mild as a cold or cough and has coughed or sneezed into their hands and you pick up the utensil they used and later touch your eyes or nose, you could get sick. It is easy to take a napkin with you to the buffet and use it to hold the serving utensils. I notice that Regent removes the salt and pepper shakers at the conclusion of your meal. Hopefully they disinfect them prior to the next person using them (the same can be said about menus, ketchup bottles, etc.) Also, when we move into our suite, we disinfect handles, light switches, the remote control, etc. This takes only a minute. We do the same on airlines (no one cleans the arm rests, controls for your seat or tray table in between flights). We carry a small can of Lysol with us for the ship and a travel package of Clorox wipes for the plane. Simple...... easy and it helps!

P.S. Almost 100% of colds that I have caught while cruising comes from people on the excursion buses that are very contagious and cough without covering their mouth. While I do have face masks to help protect myself, people would look at me weird. I'm working on getting to the point where I don't care how I look (as most of us know, people in many Asian countries use these masks all the time and don't really care what other people think...... I applaud them!)

I am with you Travelcat2 my wife and I carry the Clorox wipes as well and use them on the plane, when we get to the room and wipe all handles, remotes and use them in the casino on all or trips. We make sure we always wash our hands when we get back to the cabin. We get strange looks sometimes but it does not bother us and we have never gotten sick on any cruise. Not ready for the mask yet.

  2. Gotta make a comment on the elevator thing. On a recent cruise, we were waiting for the elevator. It came, the doors opened and there were 3 girls in their early 20's inside. My DH and I stood to the side to let them out. All 3 had their noses buried in their cell phones and hadn't even noticed the elevator had stopped. The doors started to close so my DH caught them and I started to enter the elevator assuming the 3 girls were staying on. Right then one of them looked up from her phone, and snapped at me, "you are rude! you are supposed to let people off before you get on"!

I think my jaw dropped to the floor and I followed her out of the elevator and called her a few choice names which was very immature of me but I was just so offended!

I think people need to get their noses out of their electronic devices and pay attention to what goes on around them.

I would have done the same thing, and I grow really tired of the people that can't get there face out of the device and sometimes being immature feels really good.

  3. I just received my Captain's Club News and in it talks about Luminae and here are a few quotes "different menu for two full weeks....Offering complimentary

breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner". If this is not true why is Celebrity still promoting a lie. My wife and I love Celebrity and were excited about Suite perks and Luminae. Prices for suites have gone up a lot and I think it stinks that Celebrity is already going back on its word. I am surprised that Official Celebrity has made no comments. I know the suite perks are new and so is Luminae but I hope Celebrity lives up to its word or I would think that Celebrity's brand will be diminished.

  4. Anyone have contact info for the Michael's Club concierge on the Millennium? I am sailing on September 5th. I know they are supposed to contact me 4 to 7 days ahead of sailing. The problem is that I have a 6 day pre-cruise land tour. I will not be here to make contact. Anyone have email or phone number for the concierge? Thanks in advance.

  5. We are traveling soon on the Celebrity Infinity.

Does this ship carry Amarone? If not- how do I carry on wine?

    TIA

Yes they do have Amarone. Last cruise they had Allegrini and it was delicious.

  6. I always wear my wedding and engagement rings--at home, on the ship, ashore--not to impress anyone (they're not all that impressive) but because of what they symbolize to me.

When we got engaged 45 years ago, DH told me to pick something I really liked because, if he ever became rich enough to buy me expensive jewelry, he'd be happy to do that, but he would never "upgrade" my engagement ring. I liked that sentimentality.

Ashore, I often wear small silver earrings and bracelets, not something a thief would want. I'm reluctant to wear blingy fake diamonds--don't think a thief would know the difference, so I'd still be just as vulnerable as if I were wearing the real thing.

My Wife and I have been married 35 years and we both wear our wedding rings all the time. Like you, we do it for what it means to us not others. If I take my ring off I feel naked without it. We have never had any problems on the ship or on shore.

  7. Dont know about Celebrity but the ones in Vegas are change from time to time. Its simply a change of chips in the machines. Some Casinos slots do pay better and are moved to locations where people will see them. I was good friends with a slot mgr and he said if the drop was too high they would change them. He said competition dictated when this would happen. But one thing for sure the casino has the edge, but they do control the payback.

That is not entirely true, yes the chip in the machine can be changed but that requires permission from the gaming commission and the chips are all held by the gaming commission. They will also be present when the chip is installed. The machine will also have to change signage to show the new payout schedule. It is a complicated process that is not done very often. Remember all slot machines and video poker are all controlled by a random number generator that chooses what you win. So in reality they do not control the payout. As far as winnings my wife hit two jackpots on the Century last September for 12000.00

  8. I fail to understand all this talk about "class segregation" and it not being the American way. What Celebrity are doing is "price segregation" and this, to my outsiders view, is rife in the USA. There are plenty of venues there where you have to pay more to get, essentially, a better product. My understanding is that to avoid "price segregation" you need to live in a truely communist country. Not many of those have ever existed and it is certainly not what I consider the USA to be. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that you prided yourselves on being THE country where you have the opportunity to be able to work hard to buy the things that you want whoever you are.

    Well said.

  9. Hello Everyone! A New Year has begun and we have all just been entertained (or really "torqued off") by two threads seemingly populated by those who really, really don't like smokers, former-smokers, all forms of "smoking" (however we might define that), any accomodations made for smokers who are cruising within close proximity of non-smokers, and....people who live in Washington State and Oklahoma (God bless them!).

It occured to me that we've been limiting ourselves far too narrowly and that a more wide-ranging discussion might be more theraputic and cathartic. So I'm starting this new thread (not wanting to be accused of being "off topic") and seek to broaden the discussion to ALL traits that could be exhibited by any or all of my fellow cruisers - which would/and does "ruin my day"!

This should not be considered, by any means, to be my final or all-inclusive list of obnoxious traits I don't like! :) Please feel free to add your own:

Snobby people (using my own definition - but you KNOW who you are!); People who don't bathe regularly; people who don't launder or dryclean their cloths on a regular basis; people with bad breath; obnoxious children; parents of obnoxious children; the former and current Mayor of New York City, along with the 80% of NYC residents who have a compulsion to tell ME how I should live; warm coca-cola; hot tea (really, any form of tea!); bragging and boastful people; people who DON'T like cats -"Meow"; people who flatulate in public; people who belch in public; people who sit down to eat with a ballcap on; people who can't seem to "function" without an IPhone or IPad within arm's reach; people who use a restroom and then don't wash their hands (Yuk!); people who use funny words like "whilst" and "amongst"; people who criticize my country - or anyone's country, for that matter!; people who use their fingers at a buffet table; people who reserve 5 chairs at poolside - and then never really use them; people who are unkind to animals; people who are in (NOT "amongst") the top 5% of the world's income bracket yet won't drop a dollar into the Salvation Army kettle; People who seem to "hate" smokers rather than feeling sympathy and understanding for their addiction to a STILL LEGAL product (and No, I'm NOT a smoker - Okay, I confess to the occasional cigar - but only on a Regent Cruise! :D)

So there's my beginning list of things I don't like. Any additions?

((Host Dan - Hopefully I didn't break any rules))

I don't like people who berate there server or room steward or sommelier just to feel they have power over them and when they do get everything the want they leave a crappy tip.

  10. To the OP,

Lets say you are the CEO of a company that has a product that sells for x dollars and makes you a HUGE profit. Your customers are very happy. Laughing, clapping and carrying on as if they don't feel ripped off. They come back for more day after day. Your profits become even better!

You would throw those profits away because they were not "fair"?

Bless your little socialist heart!! :D

If I were a stockholder in this company of yours you would be sacked faster than you can yell "Bingo!"

Since when did profit become such a bad word?

I have never seen anyone FORCED to spend one cent for ANY extras on Princess. You can remove tips from your account. You need not do any ships tours, bingo or go to the casino. You wont die of hunger or thirst if you only have what is included. Far from it actually! Photos? When has someone put them under your nose and begged you to buy?

Other people losing money? Mind your own....... oh well, hope you enjoyed something.

    Gary P

    Totally agree !!!!!
