Unfortunately, I have to answer this in the eyes of my daughter, who has celiac and was 6 and 7 on our 2 Grandeur cruises 🙂.  In Windjammer, they've made her grilled cheese, hot dogs, fries, pizza, pancakes, french toast, and bagels.  On our cruise last year they had a delicious gf chocolate layer cake that showed up at both the MDR and WJ.  In the MDR for dinner she's had pasta, steak, shrimp, grilled cheese, fruit soups, ice cream and the chocolate cake I've already mentioned.  I'm sure those with more adult tastebuds will have more creative ideas but I'll say she's been pretty happy with these choices!

CruiseMelissa - could you please help me understand more on how GF food is done in the Windjammer?  My 3yo would be interested in those same kid-friendly foods you mentioned (grilled cheese, pizza, etc).  The Windjammer is usually pretty chaotic when we are there.  Where do you go to find someone in charge that can take a GF request, is the GF food made-to-order, do they bring the GF food to your table?

For the record, those on ships with Starbucks, the coffee card DOES work there. At least it did on Anthem and Liberty (twice).

Now whether they charge you double for the larger sizes or no - your mileage varied with your staff.

So Liberty's Cafe Promenade sells Starbucks beverages, frappuccino's, etc.  Looking forward to getting a punch card to use there then!

I'll also note that the coffee card could not be used for the Starbucks onboard; had I known that ahead of time, I wouldn't have purchased the coffee card - I'd have spent the money on Starbucks instead.

Thank you for the heads up.  I would be purchasing if it could be used for the Starbucks!

  4. Trying to make sure I understand how this works...

We are currently signed up for late dining, but we are going to try and switch it to my time dining (early dining is full already, they said) because we have young kids and don't want to eat super late. Can we still use the family dining program if we arent actually signed up for the early dining? If we use my time dining, but schedule it for 6PM or so? Is there a time cut off? I called and asked but no one seemed to know.

And just to confirm, it is available on Liberty of the Seas, right?!

    Thanks!

Heather - how did the My Time Dining and getting your kids to the AO staff outside the MDR work for you on the Liberty cruise? Were the waiters able to expedite your kids meals so they'd be done eating in time so the AO staff could still bring them to AO?

  5. My 2 DD's (3.5 and 5.5 yo at the time) took the cupcake class on Liberty. They were the youngest kids in the class and still had tons of fun. The class was the last sea day and there were less people enrolled than other classes during the cruise. This allowed me to sit next to my 3.5 yo and help her when she needed it. Each person decorated 3 cupcakes and got to take them at the end of class. The only downside we found was it was impossible for the girls to eat all the cupcakes before we got off the ship the next day (girls would not share with us and we ended up tossing them).

  6. Thanks for the info - we're sailing Liberty in January 2019 and I appreciate being able to see the actual Adventure Ocean flyer. Our daughter will be 3 when we sail, looks like they can only take a max of 30 3-5 year olds. What I've read on this messageboard is that they rarely hit the max but still, a little bit of trepidation about them running out of room at times.

Gosh I hope they don't hit the max I never thought of that! My youngest will be 3 when we do Liberty in Jan. 2019 just because we wanted to wait until she was 3 so we could utilize the kids club and not have her in the nursery. Last cruise she was 10 months old and we were not impressed with Liberty's nursery. My older 2 loved Aquanauts though :)

  7. My experience with "My Family Time Dining" on Liberty was kind of negative. We had the early dinner seating and every single night were rushing the waitstaff to get our kids fed (especially their beloved dessert) before the AO drop off timeslot outside the MDR. A couple nights they didn't get dessert in time. We talked to our waitstaff repeatedly about the "My Family Time Dining" program and they seemed clueless as to what I was talking about. On a positive note, it was extremely convenient to utilize the AO drop off outside the MDR instead of walking them to AO ourselves while our dinner was still in-progress. I did end up walking my 10 month old to the Nursery most evenings after I ordered dessert, since she is too young for the AO kids clubs.

Maybe your experience will be different. It appears in the comments above many people have had success with the program. Next cruise we will be trying the "My Time Dining" and either bringing our kids to AO ourselves or using the AO drop off outside the MDR.

  8. We use “Siliskin Straw Lids” which work wonderfully on the glasses in MDR and plastic buffet cups as well. Just used disposable straws provided or I had a bag of bendy straws I brought with. Best part no washing cups, just wipe down. Can’t tell you how many parents approached me asking what they were and where we got them!

  9. I'm still just so surprised at that high height limit, the slides seem so easy.

I agree! The Liberty of the Seas has the same height restrictions for their Splashaway Bay. My 3 1/2 year old was totally bummed that she couldn't join her 5 year old sister on the slides. I rode both myself and thought they were extremely tame and even a young 3 year old could probably handle them without issues. The Splashaway Bay was always staffed by 2 people who checked heights and handed out wristbands.

  10. The Splashaway Bay on the Liberty of the Seas was staffed with two employees when the two waterslides were open. The staff provided color coded wristbands to the children based on what their height was so they knew who could ride which slide. 42 inches to ride one slide, 45 inches to ride the other slide. My general opinion is that your children who are 10 and older would probably enjoy the adult slides more (not sure of height requirements there, maybe 48 inches?)

  11. I wasn't aware of the specific height restrictions prior to our September 2016 cruise. Unfortunately my 3 1/2 year old couldn't do the slides at Splash Away Bay, which was such a bummer. I rode the two slides myself and thought they would be completely fine for a 3 year old. She had fun regardless, but had wanted to join her 5 year old sister on the slides. During the week of our cruise I noticed very few children using Splash Away Bay slides, most playing in the kid pool area appeared to be shorter than the requirement :(.

  12. I was just informed by Royal Caribbean today that Playa Mia's kid pool / splash park Buccaneer's Bay will be closed during our visit September 6th 2016. I also confirmed the closure directly with the resort :( I had really been looking forward to the splash park for our three girls (5yo, 3yo, 11mos). Any recommendations on another splash park in Cozumel for small children? I was hoping to find some place that had more than just a shallow pool and beach access...Mr. Sanchos, Chankanaab, Paradise look to have pool and beaches but no specific kid-oriented pool/splash areas.

Here's a pic of Playa Mia's kid pool / splash park that will be closed for 3 weeks :(

  13. Juice and milk will always be available in the MDR. Your server will get to know what your children want and it will be waiting for them at the table. My son always advocates extra tipping for the server who keeps a steady supply of the chocolate milk at dinner : )

Good to know! My girls are huge fans of milk.

  14. This may be a silly question, but does anyone know if Royal Caribbean offers lids and straws on their cups in the MDR? My kids are more comfortable/less spills with a lidded cup and straw (like many restaurants usually have for kids). Just trying to see if I should pack a couple "take and toss" type cups or if I can leave that off the packing list.
