I can’t speak for the last 24 hours, but I was on the Grand from 3/10 to 3/25 and it was orange then.  They never told us a word.  As I stated in another thread, my waiter and assistant waiter for my permanent table both disappeared a couple of days apart, never came back, with no explanation.

I finally started spending most of my day in my cabin after learning we were orange.  The final straw for me was how a maskless Hawaiian ambassador would chat and hug every unmasked guest in the Piazza  - literally ALL of them as she made her nightly rounds.  Twice she came up and did it to me even though I wore my mask everywhere and it bothered me so much that I stopped attending her performances.  Having someone share cheek contact with a bunch of people, then do it to me, was too much for me.

I understand how people are tired of masking.  I understand Princess doesnt want to lose money.  But to know we are orange, and to keep us in the dark about it while partying like it is 2019 is too much for me.  I booked the cruise when there was a mask mandate.  I could only get FCCs if I cancelled, so I went and wore a mask everywhere.  But I nearly literally ran off that ship yesterday and could not get off fast enough.

How are you feeling right now . I pray you are or will be okay.   The part about keeping us & other passengers in the dark is something I can’t & never will  agree with.  It makes no sense.   Why not tell us the truth. By not telling us the truth do they think they are gaining brownie points with us.  It certainly doesn’t. In fact it just makes me NOT believe a word they say, either verbally or written!!!!!!

Masks do not need to be worn during the Zumba classes as it is considered vigorous exercise.  Have sailed Majestic, Ruby and Grand multiple times since October with no masks required in the classes.   Masks are required prior and after class.

And guess what, those are all the ships that are in the Orange according to the CDC.   Or are those the ships that are not enforcing the rules very well.

The CDC Cruise Ship Status Dashboard at https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/cruise-ship-color-status.html#status-dashboard now shows the status of the Ruby Princess as orange.

I have been reporting that the Ruby has been in the Orange since the 24th according to the CDC.  And besides the Ruby being Orange, so is the Majestic, the Grand & the Caribbean Princess.  Princess must have been aware before that even.   Wondering if any of the other ships besides the Ruby have told their passengers.  So that way the choice is yours , be cautious or not.  Give us the #s from day one.

We are sailing tomorrow on the Majestic and I am still awaiting my CVS Covid Test results from 2 days ago and getting nervous since my husband’s taken at the same time came back yesterday.  Has anyone taken the Princess test at the pier prior to boarding?  Did it work out because I’m going to have to do that if my results don’t show up soon!

Stay safe,  the ship has got Cov. cases onboard.  CDC says in the Orange.  The Ruby has been told to mask up with N95 masks everywhere by the Captain.

    Stay healthy

Very sorry to hear about your cruise experience. I wish you safe travels home and that your diligence in masking has kept you free from any viruses. I do wish Princess would be transparent on the number of cases onboard the ships. This information might be helpful for people in deciding what they want to do onboard to keep themselves healthy.

Thank you for sharing your experience on the Grand.

After this story I’m not sure if Princess knows what transparent is.   Hey Princess , it’s telling the true facts when we are onboard so people can choose to make their own decisions based on those facts.   Like masking, social distancing, riding an elevator. It’s very unfair to do otherwise

I am onboard the Grand now.  Despite numerous attempts at resetting my password on my iPhone, I keep being told that my account (Waimea’sMom) has the incorrect password. So I gave up and created this account now.

When we booked this cruise the mask mandate was in place. After it was lifted, I was unable to get our money back and the Grand had a Green rating the last time I had checked, so we decided to go ahead and cruise, and keep our masks on while onboard. We wear them everywhere, and I have even been keeping mine on at meals - I do the sip and cover method.

I asked at the Passenger Services Desk and was told that there were over 2,000 Passengers on board this sailing.  And I would estimate about 20-25% are wearing masks.

I have been hearing coughing all cruise long but it does seem more pronounced of late. We also have had the same table at Da Vinci’s for breakfast and lunch - one that is a private table for two, socially distanced by a column. Over the course of the cruise, we are now on our fourth waiter at the table.  One day we overhead the head waiter asking our first waiter if he had gone to the doctor and could not hear his response. We never saw him again. A couple of days later, our assistant waiter left and we never saw him again either.

For the vast majority of cruisers, I am sure that this has been a great cruise.  For me, it has been a nightmare, and I cannot wait to get off this ship tomorrow. I have seen tons of people coughing onto their hands in the Atrium, and then touching chairs and tables, even saw one mask wearer take off his mask to sneeze.

I do wish people were showing more respect for differences in comfort - they don’t socially distance at all in line - inches away from the back your head - I had one older man literally sneeze onto the back of me.  I also think the Hawaiian ambassador Rowena is a lovely lady, and very friendly, but it is very uncomfortable for me that she constantly makes the rounds maskless hugging and touching people in the Atrium each night. I don’t really feel comfortable only an inch or two away from someone unmasked that just hugged a hundred other people. I finally just stopped going to their shows as I didn’t want to be rude to her and I was clearly the only passenger uncomfortable with the practice.

I don’t know the numbers of positive cases onboard (I do wish I could read the thread another poster mentioned was live on another site), no way are they advertising that. But I do know I have seen three different cocktail servers in the Atrium double masking.  So they seem concerned too.

I know - I am concerned and so I shouldn’t have gone. But I didn’t want a ton of money in future cruise credits and mistakenly thought it wouldn’t be too concerning.

If you are among the vast majority that seem to be fine mask free - I wish you a lovely time onboard. If you are even remotely risk averse, or nervous, I would say stay home, at least until the new Omicron variant runs its course.

The latest on the CDC site is:    Ships that are in the Orange:

                                                                         GRAND  , RUBY,    MAJESTIC &

                                                                       CARIBBEAN

Seems like the masks were helping  after all.   And of course social distancing.

We board the Grand on April 4 for Hawaii

Orange now means .3% (three tenths of one percent) of passengers and crew have tested positive.  In the case of the Grand as an example, the ship has a capacity of 3750 passengers and crew.  In the current climate, let's assume only 1600 passengers and 900 crew totaling 2500 souls are aboard.  In order to get to orange status, 8 people testing positive out of that 2500 would trigger a raise from green to orange.  If the transmission rate aboard is sustained or other factors are present, then the ship would go to red.  Another way the ship would go from green to orange is if the ship submits its daily covid report late.  CDC then punishes the ship by coding it as orange even if there were no covid cases reported in the delayed report.

    The new chart is below:

I am super concerned about your situation & especially since Princess will never tell the passengers the truth about the amount of cases. Do they feel it’s none of our business.   Why keep it a secret How dare they treat us like we are in Ru……. Or Ch……        I guess they never told us the truth regarding Noro either

Since masking has now been dropped it appears COVID cases are going up on the ships. I’m not surprised by this fact. I’ve seen posts on other threads where people are reporting several people coughing on the ships, no one wearing masks and by the end of the cruise the coughing has gotten more pronounced throughout the ship. In addition ships are carrying more passengers which will also contribute to an increase in COVID numbers.

Maybe the CDC will step in to change it back to mandatory inside masking. I’m sure it will have to come from the CDC since Princess just wants #s & they don’t want it to be uncomfortable for the passengers, could hurt their #s.   Just makes some of us worry more.

I am part of a thread on another site where someone on board is saying there are covid positive cases on the Grand...one is her son.

Could be cause the masks were dropped and possibly more sailing than before.

Wonder if they will bring the mandatory masking back??

@Cessna140EXACTLY!! That's why I'm not buying Princess Plus if I have OBC. Very little (next to no) OBC on my next cruise but $500 more if I add Princess Plus BUT::

    101.5 Gratuities

     35 .0 Internet

0000 trade mini bar for coffee program (latte drinker)

    136.50 but have 170 OBC.

Even if I bought a coffee card the Princess Plus isn't worth it.

    1000 OBC on the 2nd cruise / 400 on the 3rd. Guess I'll have another 35 on the 1st.

But maybe I'll get that elusive blue medallion (have status corrected onboard but refuse sticker)

Not sure I understand, but we don’t get the Princess Plus either because  we don’t drink alcohol & we get the Coffee package instead of mini bar & we have OBC to more than cover the gratuities & extra OBC  even on a 15 day cruise that’s why its a little frustrating that none of the extra OBC can go towards the internet. But at what price for the internet do  we end to paying if we purchase on day one I’m surprised more passengers are not concerned about this.

  12. 1 hour ago, Steelers36 said:

Yes, the on-board internet package prices are higher.  However, there is a policy in place that guests can get the pre-cruise price on Day 1 due to issues in MC App trying to pre-order and also difficulty in getting someone on the phone to take a phone order, etc.

IDK how long this will last and it may have been inconsistent across ships, but it is definitely a customer service policy.  The MC App works now to apply the discount up-front.  So, Princess may decide to drop that Day 1 policy.  But no so fast methinks because it is now being revealed that many guests are not being recognized in MC App with their correct CC Member Level and therefore no discount is being applied.  What next I ask?

It seems like there’s never a clear cut answer.   I suppose not very many passengers have purchased internet packages upon boarding  on day one to give their experience.   Especially with so many passengers getting the Beverage Package. I’m still hoping for 1st. hand knowledge.

My thanks to everyone that responded so far.

I went to the internet cafe on boarding day to buy the 7 day package and was told it was full price unless purchased pre cruise. I told the tech I do not use an App or smart phone pre cruise and he gave me the 50% price. He told me next time to call Princess and get it put on my booking if I want the discount.

It looks like it’s another one of those maybe or probably not depending on who you get & what kind of mood they are in or depending on what ship. Sure wish Princess would be more consistent .

  14. Does anyone know the answer if this  is right.   I thought there was a topic on this a couple of months back.  Maybe the end of last year.  I thought on the very 1st boarding day only , they will give you the same package price for the internet that is on the App..   Maybe for people that could not get into the App. to still get the same  deal .   That way we could use our OBC.
I am really hoping for a for sure answer from someone that actually did sign up on embarkation day & was told YES ,you could get the same App. price for that day only.       I know some of you experts will know.   I tried to find the older topic here on the forum, but I couldn’t find it.

Thanks, I appreciate any knowledge about this

If you want to use OBC, you can purchase on board. You'll still get the 50% off, but the package price will be higher. I usually do this, since I have more OBC than I can spend. I usually wait to buy the wifi package until the second day of the cruise or later, depending on which ports I can get data or easy wifi at.

Does anyone know if this is a for sure.   Because I thought on the very 1st boarding day only , they will give you the same package price for the internet that is on the App..   Maybe for people that could not get into the App. to still get the same  deal .   That way we could use our OBC.

They got tested a day or two before going to the pier.

One of my other contacts had a problem in Seattle where her results weren't ready before checking in. Princess had a place in the back where they did another test. It was expensive, But she was able to get on the cruise. I believe she had to show proof of having been tested to use the service.

Thanks for letting me know.  Looks like we just do the testing 2 days before & make sure we go to the terminal or pier with proof of a negative test.  With no testing at the terminal it will make for easier & faster embarkation.  I’m imagining the cruise to Hawaii in April is going to have a lot more passengers than the one we took to Mexico last November.  Just like to know what to expect.  Although I do realize things could change.

    Thanks for the info,

    Grace

Yes. I have not personally sailed but from their website and from reading their forums there is one area outside on the ships where smoking is allowed. I can live with that.

Yes,  and I’m sure that area is not under the Aft Full Suites like it is on the Grand right now.     Such a shame for the lack of their caring about their Full Suite Passengers.
