  1. I wasn't on the cruise, that's just what they told me. If they were told wrong, or repeated it to me wrong, I hold my hands up.

They LOVED the cruise and the ship, think they've been on it 2 or 3 times now, not sure how many cruises in total but it must be around 30 and all of them P&O.

They just said there are parts where she's showing her age a little, that's all.

Apologies if anyone thinks this post was a negative against P&O, it really wasn't intended to be!

I've been on 3 P&O cruises myself, but a long long time ago. (2 on the old Victoria and once on their original Arcadia, which is now sailing for P&O Australia I believe).

My husband works on cruise ship refits, he's currently in Singapore working on the Pacific Jewel. I read these boards quite a lot when he's away, I just thought I'd pass on the info.

Sorry to cause offence to anyone, I'll go hide away again now..... :o

  2. Cruise J521 is indeed dry dock, my husband is working on the ship at the moment and I've seen a picture of his pass with that number on it.

No air con is not fun, he said think of when your car has been in the sun all day and you open the door to that wave of heat? Yeah, that's what it's like going back to his cabin when he's finished for the night!

  3. That's what the captain has just told them as they left Kusadasi‏.

My parents are on the ship at the moment. Captain also said it's nothing to worry about though, which is good!

They've not mentioned any of their itinerary changing so she's obviously still able to get where she needs to be at the speed she needs to be!

I wonder if this is anything to do with the engine fire I read about the other day? Think it was last month, might be wrong though.

Anyway, they are having a lovely time, staff and ship are wonderful, although they did say she's showing her age in some places.

    :)

  4. He came home last night but is still working on the ship until Friday. It was LOVELY to see him!

I have to admit I was sat waiting at some traffic lights near the port when I went to pick him up, I looked over and could see the giant TV screen on the top deck and might have had a little happy tear roll down my face, but we won't tell anyone that! :o:o

  5. The Southampton Port website was showing them both in the same berth which I thought probably wouldn't work!

It's changed now though so they won't be docked behind one another, they won't actually be that close to each other at all looking at the map of all the terminals in Southampton docks.

  6. Is it just me, or is she absolutely tanking along!?

Marine Traffic currently shows her doing 24.8 knots. I thought 'normal' speed was anything up to about 20 knots.

Maybe Dave had a word with the captain and told him to get back sooner so I can stop annoying my work colleagues by bouncing round the office in an excited way! :o :D

  7. Hi All,

Hoping some of you might be able to help me. A lot of my work colleagues obviously know about Dave's job, but I don't think a lot of them have any idea of the actual scale of the size of a cruise ship.

He's on the Explorer at the moment, so if anyone has any images of that with someone stood nearby to show how tiny they look, can they post it here? Failing that, any of the RCCL ships in that class?

    Thanks :)

  8. Well, nothing like last minute eh!

Dave called me as I was driving home tonight, he has flights for tomorrow morning!

Less than 12 hours with him, feeling quite sad at the moment to be honest, even though this is a dry dock and it's what he does, and I know we'll both cope. I just need to find my big girl panties and I'm sure I'll be fine! :o

  9. Does anyone know what time Oasis will be leaving Southampton on the 15th? The port shipping schedule website says 23:59 but I'm thinking that's quite late? Usually it's between 4pm and 8pm. It will only take me a few minutes to drive to the beach to see her go past, and I'd like to catch her if I can! :)

  10. Hi everyone,

Little news but good news! Dave says the ship is spotless, and that's day 1 of dry-dock, so if anyone was worried about the ship's condition, it sounds like she's as new already!

And just to prove she's now in dry-dock with her 'underneaths' out on show :o

  11. Hello everyone :)

Well, as usual there's no guarantee of pictures as it depends on what Dave does and where he needs to go on the ship.

He flies out early Tuesday morning.....very early in fact! We need to leave home at about 3am, and my plan is to go to work after I've left him at the airport, but I think it will be a case of seeing how long I last for! Might end up having to go home slightly earlier! :o

He gets back to the UK on the 9th May, so yes, it's a very short one this time.

Thanks for all the nice comments again, and, as I say, if I know or see anything, I'll be sure to pass on the info/pics :)
