  1. Keep going on this each day and the last pictures were of the folks on the deck during the transit. Am I up to date or have I missed some.??

We did full transit first time west to east and second east to west. Makes no difference. Now they stop in Panama so that would make for another cruise, but husband always says after going so much we have been there. I believe there is always something new to see.

Doing the Vision in Jan hope a couple new stops will be of interest to us.

  2. Hello trainman.

I'm following your thread as I have never been on a cruise but I hear all the stories about how fantastic the food is.

maybe you can help me out a bit or anyone else.

I see what you've been posting and so far I am not impressed.

This one put me over the top.

How does a cruise line that just sailed not have white bread and turkey?

No coffee in the morning unless you ask for it?

Is this typical of all cruise lines or just this company?

    please help me out here!

I'm surprised with this posting. On the buffet there always on any ship line they seem to have an assortment of lunchmeats which turkey or chicken would be one of them

going Jan 25 so will see then, although we prefer the dining room.

  3. The Morning Coffee Crisis...

The Starboard coffee area was "closed for cleaning" according to a crew member who walked by.

It certainly needed it as it was filthy, and the floor was covered with trash.

The Crewman told me that the Port side Coffee area was open so I headed over there.

The regular coffee was empty and the decaffeinated coffee was cold.

A Security Guy walked by and I asked him to go into the Windjammer and "Stir Them Up" to get out some coffee.

A few minutes later, a Crewman appeared with a pot of hot regular coffee and the crisis was ended, You can see the new por to the left of the two regular dispensers.

Unfortunately, the port side sweetener supply was nearly exhausted so I went back to the Starboard side to complete preparing my coffee.

speaking of coffee I wonder if you know if it is liquid coffee or real bean coffee??

  4. Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful,

Could not take the time to read word for word, but your shots where just outstanding.

Going back for a 4th time Aug 15 so this made it very exciting.

first trip 32 yrs ago no one hardly knew anything about Alaska for traveling and HAL owned just about everything. Have enjoyed the other 2 trips and now 10 yrs later going again. Feel good since we come from the East coast, and have those long flights.

  5. I think CC automaticly changes some parts of website links if it contains advertising or something like that.

    Theo

I think you are correct. I put in a private tour com. on the thread and it did the same thing. When I just used the name all was o.k.

  6. We've always used an over the door organizer - hanging it so items are accessible from inside the bathroom. I noticed on our last cruise ... the metal hangers on it were scratching the paint on the top of the doorway.

Since I hate to be the personal cause of a maintenance problem, I won't be using it anymore.

Planning on using one on my next cruise. A shoe bag holder. To take care of the problem of scratching just put masking tape on the metal and your good to go, or wrap it with floral tape.

  7. I'm sure most of you people are well rounded travelers and know what each one is saying is true. You could be the one dressing in the a.m. and staying that way till bed time. Others seem to like to change and feel like they are stepping out for dinner at the end of a sightseeing day. To each their own. Friendliness and your personality makes a better statement then your clothing.

Some of these postings make me wish I could be a fly on the wall and see each and every one of you on these trips.

I've just signed up for a bus tour of Christmas Mkts Nov 30th and since going 4 yrs ago, sweaters under the winter jacket was fine and changing some nights for dinner worked well. We will be in small towns of Germany where after eating you probably can go back out to the mkt place. The dress on those days maybe from a.m. to p.m.

  8. I think with all the light none wrinkle materials out there, the weight probably isn't all that much of a problem. I go with a about 3 colors of clothing and find I can change a lot. I feel like the other posting, it makes you feel better. Even if you cat wash certain areas and put on a different top or jewelry and shoes I feel good to go.

A lot depends when and where you go, to freshen up gives you an up lift.

Now going on a Xmas mkt tour in Dec. could be another thing Coats all day long so just maybe taking that sweater you had on all day off for dinner will be enough to make you feel you have made a change.

Vacations are not just sightseeing it is the dressing also for me, don't get to wear all the clothes at home like I can on vacation

Glad I have a husband that likes to freshen up and change also. Plus he isn't a gene's person.

I will say the tour guides we had in July on GCT were not fancy dressers. They looked clean but stayed in the same clothes mostly everyday. To them it is work from sun up to sun down and more.

What ever, people anymore don't seem to care about dress.

At least men took their baseball hats off, more then you see in resturants in the USA most of the times.

  9. Night light lives in my suitcase! For the reasons you mentioned, I never leave home without one....sometimes we don't need it, but when there isn't any light, it's very good to be able to find the bathroom in the middle of the night:D:D

We just leave the bathroom light on, shut the door and that little crack underneath serves as a good night guide for us. Husband more often then I relies on it.

  10. I usually wear white walking shoes and have to pack a pair of black shoes for dinner when we are cruising. Since I have big feet :p they take up a lot of room. We'll be on a Tulip cruise (Avalon) in April and a Danube (Viking) in September next year. Can I get away with just my white shoes? Also, can I leave my sports jacket and tie at home? We're renting a car with another couple to drive a bit around Germany at the end of our Danube cruise and will have to pack tightly.

I too was going to reply to leave coat and tie home.

If your a jeans person you can wear those forever and no one knows if they are clean or dirty they always look the same---- "awful". saves from packing very much. That time of year for walking and dressing shoes if the blk works for walking I would go with those.

  11. So I'm asking all of the experienced River Cruise People what will you pack for your next river cruise and what will you leave home. We are cruising from Budapest to Amsterdam the last week of September into October. Thanks for your advice!

People on river cruises seem to dress in the a.m. and stay that way till they go to bed. I for one like changing, to me all the clothes i own most are bought with the idea of travel.

Going in the fall layer clothing is good, and underneath no one knows how long you have had it own. Just sit with different people for breakfast then you do for dinner.\ That is if you can get a seat with different people as we found half way thur it got clickish and so seats were being saved in the dining room/ Yes, take rain gear. We did last of Oct/into Nov in 2004 and had misty days.

If your use to traveling I think everyone knows the ropes for dress and how much or less they like dressing up or down.

    have a nice cruise
