  1. Yes, there are. But the last time I visited the Grand Canyon, there was not a crowd of people following me and asking me to buy them.

There were at Dunn's River Falls, however.

    Never again: Jamaica

Unfortunately this happened to me too in Jamaica. I would personally never go back, and if people go, I just tell them honestly what happened to me during my week there. It's very frightening and off-putting if it has never happened to you before, no matter where it happens. If it happened to you in Seattle, you'd probably never want to go back in Seattle either. I am totally with you.

  2. At various times we have sailed on Majesty of the Seas in oceanview rooms on deck five, six, seven, eight and nine. The biggest room was deck nine. Our window was quite obstructed. I had to lean down to see out, but at least we had natural daylight.

The rooms on decks five, six and seven have ocean view rooms which are smaller than deck nine rooms, but they are OK for just three or four nights. The one deck I do not like at all is deck seven because the ocean view rooms have windows that open up onto an outside prominade. You have to keep your curtains closed most of the time if you want any privacy. You might as well book a much cheaper inside cabin if you can't see outside.

Once in a rare while there is a fair deal on a suite. But I think they are really high priced most of the time compared to deck nine cabins if you can tolerate an obstructed view. Of course I would appreciate a suite's balcony, but can live without it for four nights or three nights.

I hope you like Majesty as much as we do. We love the four-night cruise because it includes Key West, one of our favorite ports.

Thanks everyone! This is so helpful. We love Key West too, which is why this cruise appeals so much. The price of the suite seems too high for 4 nights, and while we like our space, we survived smaller cabins before, and we can do so again--and definitely can with an obstructed view. Thanks so much!

  3. HEY!!! I was given that costume by the cruise staff for their 80s Night party! Hah!

Anyhoo, I do find an ocean view cabin to be a bit of a waste. On the first part of the cruise I was with 4 friends and I had my own cabin. Category K, inside. I don't really see much point in an ocean view cabin. My sister and I (for my 2nd cruise) NEVER stood in the room and looked out the window (at the freakin' lifeboat). All that window did was let light in in the morning (grrr). But I moved to that cabin because it was quite a bit bigger than a Cat K Interior!

    Have fun. :)

Seriously, the leg warmers are great!

We probably tend to stay in the cabin more than others (we're nappers!), and I really just need to know if it's day or night! I went crazy in the inside cabin--I am claustrophobic, so I just need to see outside to know that there is something out there. I'm the same way on a plane. So if I can see a lifeboat, I'm in good shape!

  4. I hate to tell you, but I think each room is different. I was on a B2B which afforeded me the ability to check out the views from quite a few cabins while they were being cleaned before anyone else boarded (I was the only B2Ber that week so I was literally the only passenger onboard). Some rooms seemed to have worse obstructions than others. Mine was quite bad. I was in 9024. Here's the link to my review:

I can't remember how to just paste a picture into this thread, so check out the review and you'll see my Superior Ocean View Cabin, deck 9, along with the exact view out the window. It's pictures 4 & 5 in the review.

Good to know. Thanks! That is so helpful! Do the leg warmers come with the room or are those extra? :D They're awesome.

We haven't booked the cruise yet, but since it's such a short cruise, that probably wouldn't be too bad. I think the space is more of the issue, and as long as we have some light, we should be good. Thanks for the input everyone!!! I really appreciate it.

  5. We are thinking of booking a quick 4-night Majesty cruise in May. The biggest outside cabins all seem to have obstructed views on Deck 9. When we sailed Majesty, it was before dry dock and we were in an inside. Has anyone been in an "obstructed view" cabin and what exactly does that mean? There's a difference of about 40 sq. ft b/w these and one on a lower deck with no obstructed view, so I'm curious.

    Thanks!

  6. No, I haven't been there since it was opened. But, I've heard it's an awesome place to visit. Me? I'd go to the Smithsonian museums first. My faves are the Air & Space, the American History, and the Museum of Natural History.

We are staying at the Gaylord National for a conference, and it's really nice, but so far from everything. We took the water taxi to Old Town, which was fun, but it's not close to a Metro or anything. They are doing a ton of construction, and have some nice restaurants and shops, but it just seems to be placed in the middle of nowhere. I definitely prefer the Mall and the Monuments and just wish we were closer! I could spend a day at Air & Space alone.

  7. Well, I've lived in the DC area my entire life (41 years) and have never heard of a cruise ship in DC. But, the Spirit ships are bigger than the Odyssey (and can't get underneath the memorial bridges). So, maybe that's what he saw? The Spirit ships can hold several hundred people.

Now, Baltimore, different story. The NCL Majesty and Carnival Pride sail out of Baltimore right now (well, ok, this Spring). And, HAL and Celebrity have cruised out of Baltimore in the past.

Yeah, I'm guessing it was a Spirit ship that he saw. We both have been itching to go on our next cruise, so he probably just had it on the brain :) It's great that you can cruise out of Baltimore.

Since I have your attention, do you know anything about this National Harbor complex?

  8. No major cruise line can get anywhere near DC. The only ships are the lunch and dinner cruises (Spirit and Odyssey). The water is way too shallow for a cruise ship (to my knowledge). Is your BF sure it wasn't Baltimore? Several ships have sailed from/to there over the years.

That's what I thought (that it was too shallow). Also, we were on the river last night, and I thought that there was no way that a big ship could get through the bridge, even when it is up. He insists that he did see a big ship and a bunch of people getting off of it; he's been on the Odyssey, and we've been on big ships, so he knows the difference. He said it was at least 5 years ago when he lived here, but it could have been Baltimore.

  9. Our family is taking our first cruise ever, and never expected to see the amount of info available. This thread has been VERY helpful, but also very overwhelming. Dad is looking for relax with the 3 & 5yo, but Mom is super into all the details, activities, etc. Can anyone point a freaked-out dad to a site with info for 1st timers? Also, an important question...is ther self-service laundry on the Liberty?

    thanks.

Canuck38 (on Liberty of the Seas - Jan.31/09)

As others have said, the cruise will be perfect for your family, especially on Liberty. My boyfriend and I were on Liberty the first week of December, and we were all set to do a lot of activities, but ended up spending a lot of time just relaxing on our balcony or by the pool. Dad and the kids can just relax by the pool (the kids pool is amazing!), but there is also a ton to do too. And the day at Labadee is really nice. It is a nice beach day where you can just sit and relax and play in the water. Check out the posts on Labadee and the ports you're going to, and don't freak out. Just plan on having fun and you will have a great time. Have a great trip!

  10. Hey Christie!

MiaCruzer: we are two cruises from Diamond and we never had an experience like yours. Our two experiences on Liberty were stellar. We always meet and greet our room stewards and have been moved to tears at fairwell with all of our staff. We never had anything to complain about with RCCL. We have been on 4 different classes of vessel and loved all of them and the service. We have always had the turn down and mints and towel art. I've missed the Gala every time because we usually are so exhausted we never made it up there, and now it's gone the way of the dodo bird. But heck, it was an awful waste anyways. We love cruising and RCCL and every cruise is special to us. JMHO:D

We just got back from the Liberty, and it was amazing. It was our 4th RCCL cruise, and definitely the best. Christie--wanted to let you know that the reserved chairs by the pool were basically empty all week!:( Our cabin attendant was the best we've ever had, and we did get chocolates and towel animals every night. I guess it's just the luck of the draw. Not everything was perfect, but we got away from the cold and snow for a week, and we can't wait for our next cruise!
