  1. This thread is amazing. :)

I am looking at the Celebrity Silhouette:

If I book a category 2C cabin, which one would be best and why?

I understand the reasoning for room above/below, but the rate difference between 2C and other category is huge (with a special promotion), so if I must stay in 2C, what would be the best option?

Is smoking a problem? Where can people smoke on this ship? Is it the entire deck 5 or one side of the ship?

Thanks in advance for your help!

In my opinion, yor best bet would be to go with a cabin that is located above a restaurant. Avoid being over any bar, casino etc.

Smoking is only allowed on the port side. Try gettting one on the starboard side.

  2. I bet you don't cruise too often ,by the time you choose your ship season is over LOL. you forgot to say one thing- Hal is only company where people use promenade deck ,because its sooo boring I cruised on Eurodam and Noordam(kids sail free by the way both times ) and I can say one thing- HAL beautiful line if you have 1-3 years old kid with you ,and you have to go to sleep at 9 pm. or you are 70 and you need small ship to cruise with your wheel chair. you forgot to mention how lime is HAL shows and that they don’t have any entertainment crew just CD and assistant.

I'm in my fifties, have sailed on many cruise lines and love any ship with a promenade including the lovely Nieuw Amsterdam. I disagree with your comments regarding the shows on HAL and those suggesting that the only way to enjoy the line is to be in your seventies.

Generalities shuch as years are not the most usefull way of gaining insight on cruising. My two cents.

  3. We got our cabin assignment for our Summit cruise. We are in 6010 forward. Way forward, but I think it will be OK. Already ordered new luggage tags, so I don't want to change it again. Unless they would upgrade us to something better. One can always hope for that, but never happened before.

    Thanks for your help.

    Gwen :)

WOW! You are lucky to have this category ocean view. I have read that they are larger than others and the window is a bid round one. One my recent cruise aboard the Summit, I also booked an OV GTY and got #3011 a category 6. It was nice and since it was just under the Promenade deck, it was easy to go outside. However, since it was way forward, we did have to walk a lot on that cruise which is good after all the eating. ;)

  4. I just won the Sheraton Old San Juan on Priceline for $80. This is for our post cruise stay on 2/6/11. Wow! I'm so happy about this because the hotel is just across the steet from the cruise dock. This hotel sells at $249 a night on regular sites!

I started by choosing a 3.5 star rating for sector 8 (San Juan) and bid $68. I was accorded a "free" bid to increase by $20 to obtain my room. I rejected the proposal and added another sector which does not have any 3.5 star ratings or higher. Continued doing this until my bid was $80 and I won :D

  5. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on Stateroom 1442 on the Carnival Dream. This oceanview stateroom, though large and equipped with 2 bathrooms, is located beside a crew deck operations area. Every time the ship arrives in port, you will surely be awakened by the crew's docking operations carried on this portion of the deck.
