  1. Specifically, the 10-day Eastern Caribbean itinerary for next January or February. Do the balconies on Royal Princess have varying degrees of coverage according to deck (like on other Princess ships), or is the sun/shade ratio pretty uniform throughout? And what's the difference between regular balcony and deluxe balcony cabins (besides the approximately 10 square feet)?

Also, how are the beds? I know that Princess is in the process of rolling out their new beds across the fleet and was just wondering if the ones already onboard the Royal were fairly comfortable. If they're not, do they provide egg-crate mattress toppers?

As far as room service breakfast goes, I know that hot food items are offered only to passengers in suites. Can special requests for hot items be be written in on the regular breakfast room service card, or will those not be honored?

Finally, if I decided to stay onboard the ship during a port day, do they still have a decent amount of activities going on, or are they pretty much nonexistent (like on Holland America, which is the only line I've sailed in the recent past)?

We did this itinerary in March this year.

The only tiered decking is at the aft. All other balconies on the port and starboard are equally covered. There are a few wrap around and large open balconies at the bow on the upper decks.

I believe deluxe balconies have a sofa bed. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The Royal did not have the new beds in March. I would rate what they had as okay. Firmish, decent but nothing to write home about. Not sure if they provide the toppers.

I'm sorry but I can't answer your other questions.

  2. Why does Princess not offer any true 14 day cruises in the Caribbean this fall? They are all b2b cruises. Is a 14 day cruise not popular enough? I notice Celebrity offers true 14 day cruises. I would not want to return to Ft Lauderdale mid cruise, that would be just awful. I wish they would have a real 14 day cruise with no return to Florida.
    I'd love that.
  3. We picked B734 due to the size of the balcony and its away from public areas. We also heard that unlike some aft S2's this balcony provided the highest amount of privacy, meaning it wasn't totally exposed from above. Can anyone confirm that? Does anyone have a photo from this balcony looking up?
We had B734 on the Royal. Yes, it's one of the larger balconies and is more than half covered. You cannot be seen from the Horizon Terrace. If someone wanted to hang over from the balcony above they could see you if you are at the edge of yours. But we could sit at our table or lay on the loungers and be totally private.

I do not have any photos looking up, sorry.

  4. Depends on your beverage preference. If you are a wine drinker, the AIBP doesn't work. You still pay 60 percent of the bottle cost.
    ??

All wine by the glass up to and including $10 is included in the AIBP.

But yes, if you choose to buy bottles then any bottle $100 and under is 40% off. But there's plenty of choice by the glass.

  5. This happened to me last year. If I recall correctly, they called and I said I was just browsing and had no specific plans and while I appreciated the call, they didn't need to call again - I would call them if/when I needed something. I then got called two more times (same person) right after browsing carnival.com. So, I asked nicely and firmly again that they not call me again (and I explained I was disappointed they ignored my first request) and so far so good.

Yes, they are a business and have a job to do but my first request should have been enough.

I miss my old PVP. They no longer work for Carnival.

  6. Hi All

Weather has been silly here today,

    hail stones,

    flash floods,

clear blue skies and hot sun,

and strong winds stopping high sided vehicles on bridges,

and that was all this morning,

    yours Shogun

My gosh. It sounds like Texas. We joke here that we often get four seasons in one day.
  7. Hello Everyone,

For people who have cruised in a suite did you find it worth it to have the all inclusive beverage package?

    Thank you for your opinions.

    For us, yes.

I don't think being in a suite really makes much difference. I realize you get the mini bar and breakfast drinks in Sabatini's and the discounted drinks in the daily party thing but we still benefited given it covers everywhere else plus waters, coffees, etc.

Potential for lots of differing opinions here as whether it's 'worth it' very much much depends on the person.

  8. Since you remember the gentlemen escorts hired to dance with single women have you seen the comedy "Out to Sea"? It's another funny movie staring the duo of Jack Lemon & Walter Matthau about scamming their way onto a cruise ship as dance hosts in an effort to meet rich widows.
I love that movie. Two great actors and a great theme.
  9. I am so happy I just booked a cruise on the Ruby :) When I went to look at the deck plans, the website asked me when I was sailing in order to give me the most accurate plans. I know the Ruby was recently in dry dock, is there another dry dock or more changes planned? Thanks!
Most of the time that is because Princess are re-categorizing cabins rather than any physical changes happening.
  10. I realize this is a Princess board...but on another line there is a policy against anything other than magnets on the doors because they were having issues with people damaging the paint from the tape being used. They have a $200 charge if you place tape on your door. Just saying.....Princess likely doesn't have such rules because so few doors are decorated. Princess places decorations in the space near the door but not on the door (plastic as I recall).

And yes' date=' in the house of the mouse we've had decorations disappear.[/quote']

On the Royal in March there were many (as in lots) of signs of congratulations put up by Princess on the actual doors with tape.

  11. Most things on board were actually surprises and new experiences as you had not had the chance to research them to death on the Interwebs beforehand.

I can't claim to have cruised like the old TAs but I can claim to have been on a true liner. My second cruise was on the SS Norway, formerly the France. Other than the fact the AC sucked, lol, what a gem. And talk about real promenade.

  12. This is what the Log of the Cruise looks like:

Thank you. We did not get this on the March Royal voyage. I did not know to look for it but I picked up all the paper and brought it home then went through it all (and also noticed I'm missing one of the Patters, doh).

  13. Nezmo, now you've gone & done it (glad you like Sarcasm!:p) I've been thinking the Sanctuary is just nice chairs & being waited on. NOW, with those cabana pics...I can see DH enjoying his "Happy Hour" aka nap, on that couch! He'd have his headphones in, listening to a book, then try to convince me he was just resting as he snores... :D
Pleased to be of service :).
  14. The Sanctuary on Royal covers a large area. Not all loungers are up close to the glass. Many are further back and get a little more breeze. The loungers on Port/Starboard sides are in full sun and can get breezy! The challenge is getting a lounger located to your liking. And, of course some cruises will be breezier than others! No one-size-fits-all for sure!:D
    Very true.
  15. Did not like the sanctuary on the Royal. Could not afford the cabana you got. We like the double lounge chairs in the shade. We loved it on the Crown. Not much shade loungers. But oh my it is like a hurricane up there when the ship is sailing. Way too windy!! What were they thinking putting the sanctuary on that deck? Yes it is lovely. But you can find a free lounge chair just outside. We did that while in port. But while sailing it seemed like 50 mph winds up there.
We found the Retreat on the Royal unusable due to wind. The Sanctuary was fine, even outside of the cabanas. Barely a breath of wind.
