  1. The folks in St Maarten really need our prayers and love. Evacuation wasn't an option for them, their homes were always less substantial than ours and they don't have such a recovery infrastructure. Many depend on cruises that might not be able to stop by for some time so their livelihoods are shattered. Those of us not there have SO much to be thankful for whatever our circumstances today.

And I hope I can visit the beautiful islands in that area very soon- heck they need us more than ever!

Completely agree Ann, I've enjoyed visiting St Maarten so much.

And thoughts for the people of Barbuda too who have very difficult times ahead.

With three hurricanes now in the area very thankful our often rainy island never has to deal with storms on this scale.

Hope your evacuation goes well Kathy and thinking of all in the affected areas

  2. I do want to clarify a bit here. While your US dollars are pretty useless in Israel (except for your tour guide), your credit cards are more than welcome and can be used just about anywhere. Bring a card with little to no foreign transaction or translation fees. Your plan to carry around some NIS (ATMs are all over the place) is a good one, but don't bring any US money to Israel other than what you need to pay your guide. We spent two weeks in Israel last summer and only carried as much US money as we would need back in Boston at the airport there.

Thanks for your advice. I will certainly have a no transaction fee CC with me.

I never change Euros back into pounds as I am in European destinations frequently, but I don't want to be left with too many shekels as I m not sure when I might be returning to Israel after the cruise.

  3. My forthcoming Journey cruise is in Israel for three days, my first visit to that country.

Can CC posters who have travelled to Israel advise me whether US dollars are widely accepted there?

I plan to take some Israeli Shekels (sp) for drinks and small purchases but would prefer to use dollars for other things if possible.

Our private tour guide has requested payment in dollars so am hoping they can be used elsewhere too.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

  4. Dave,

I'm kicking myself for posting this but I can't refrain any longer so I will take the heat-plus you don't know where I live LOL.

You have every right in the world to be upset and disappointed that your travel plans were interrupted. But as a newcomer to Azamara I feel you have adequately warned us newbies or prospective newbies and it now just feels like you are trying to cause harm. It is actually nauseating to keep beating this to death in every way possible. We all understand that communications were lacking and that some are getting better deals then other. But the intensity and language you use somewhat defeats your purpose. You have cancelled your Azamara cruises and moved on. It would help some of us that are planning trips if you might consider backing off a bit. What more could you expect Bonnie in her position to do but apologize, clarify when she can(such as the $100 deposit) and ask those that have enjoyed Azamara in the past to come back.

Don't forget about 3 years ago(if memory serves) you were posting the same type of posts regarding Regent and were dismissive of anyone who didn't agree with you. My assumption is your dissatisfaction with Regents communications and decision making on their Africa itineraries played a large part of why you came to Azamara in the first place.

So again, I do understand that when a trip is messed up and communication isn't what its suppose to be it can be extremely frustrating and overwhelming. But calling people bozos, talking about bankruptcy with no factual information, shooting the messenger "Bonnie" when she is doing what she can with difficult people and circumstances, is just wearing thin for me personally as I'm trying to get excited about my upcoming trips.

So I'm a big boy and ready to be blasted for this but I just had to get this off my chest.

Continue getting excited about your forthcoming trips Papa. Hopefully you will join us in being an Azamara aficionado soon.

I am sympathetic to rallydave's disappointment and I am glad he has fixed up an alternative cruise so time for him to let this angst go

  5. Hi everyone. I'm looking for a favour please. While on Celerity Reflection cruise in June this year to the Greek Islands, I left my bangle on the scanner at security in the port of Piraeus, Athens. The port authorities have found it and are holding it for me. Unfortunately no courier company will transport jewellery of any kind to Ireland so I am now unable to be reunited with this bangle. If anyone is coming to Ireland after a visit to Athens, I would very much appreciate if you would please collect the bangle in Piraeus Port, and bring it to Ireland with you. I am prepared to travel anywhere in Ireland to pick it up or can meet you at the airport when you arrive. I have explored every avenue to try to get this bangle back, up to and including the Irish Embassy in Athens, but to no avail. It is of great sentimental value to me and won't take any space in your luggage. If anyone can help me out here, I would be so appreciative as my only other option is to fly back to Athens to collect it myself - an expense I would rather avoid. Many thanks to my CC pals in advance. Fingers crossed.

    Where are you in Ireland?

  6. Think disagreeable people can ruin both private and ships tours. We rarely do ships tours but took one last month in Menorca. At our first stop a couple returned to the bus more than 30 minutes late meaning our time was restricted at each following stop. We were so frustrated at being told we only had 10 minutes at a charming spot we had never visited, we told the guide we were leaving the tour and would return to the ship by taxi.

My private tours have always included lovely people up to this point but appreciate this may not always be the case.

  7. If you are sailing in a Club Continent Suite a half bottle of gin, whisky, vodka and rum are included but all alcoholic items in the fridge are chargeable in all grades of stateroom.

  8. This thread makes for very sad reading and I am so sorry for all those who are affected.

We had a cruise cancelled by Azamara about three years ago. I was initially very disappointed but they bent over backwards to make things right and I was very impressed. But it appears that things have changed. It's very disappointing for all of us Azamara loyalists.
