Guessing 12yo (their parents) can choose which one they want to be a member of.  AO makes sense for some, especially if they have a younger sibling with them, but the teen club makes sense also.

For sure, for siblings this is a nice option to have. Hopefully they consider 12 a flex age!

I'm surprised that Icon went back to 13+ for the teen club. Oasis class puts 12 year olds in with the teen group. My son was 12 when we went on Allure two years ago and he was part of the teen group - which he much preferred than being with the younger kids (he mostly hung with his older sibling).

Do you anticipate them enforcing the 13 limit on the Icon? I guess we will find out soon now that full-revenue cruising is about to begin. I wish they were clearer about this, and I hope it’s not a negotiation once on board.

From what I remember the teen club was split into two groups, 13-15 and 16-17.  I would think it would be better for a 12yo to be among 15yo than among 6yo.

How does the onboard programming for teens differ from other kids?

We divide teens into two age groups: 12-14 and 15-17. What we have for teens is actually very similar to the adult activities — they come and go at their own will. They can check the schedule and see what they want to do, whether it’s a sport, a craft or a scavenger hunt, and they can opt in or out.[/quote]

So the 12yo WOULD go to the teen club.

Thank you for finding this guidance! It makes sense. I was just thrown off by the Adventure Ocean having a space that clearly has 6-12 posted on the door. It was shown on a recent video walkthrough of Adventure Ocean on the Icon.

You could talk with them, but note you will trading in being around 6-7 years olds, to having a 12 year old around 16-17 year old's.  Would imagine most 12 year olds will be in their designated 6-12 group.

True, that would be again too big a spread for different reasons. What she is looking for is the 12-14 crowd she is used to hanging out with, but clearly most of them will not be able to come to Adventure Ocean…Hopefully they do something tween friendly during spring break months in Adventure Ocean!

  5. Going on the Icon for spring break with a 12-year-old. I have not been able to firm up what her options will be in terms of kids clubs. She would like to meet other girls her age to hang out with.

Will she only have access to the 6-12 area in Adventure Ocean? That’s a big age spread! There could be kindergarteners along with seventh graders.

Is the teen club open to this age group, or is it strictly 13+?

I have heard both that the age limits 12/13 are strictly enforced by each club and that a 12-year-old is given the choice to “age up.” What has been the practice during recent cruises across the fleet? What should we expect on the Icon during the busy spring break weeks when there surely will be many tweens?

  6. I just noticed in my cruise planner that the All Access Ship Tour had become available for my sailing on the Icon in March 2024! It says the duration is 3.5 hours. Is that consistent with the tour on other ships? The detailed description says, "Two-hour All Access tour: See what we do behind the scenes to make each part of your cruise experience enjoyable." I went ahead and booked it anyway.

  7. Sailing on the Icon in a Surfside Family Suite, which as a Sky class suite includes an internet access benefit ("Royal Suite Class Star and Sky guests will enjoy the Surf + Stream package"), one device per person booked. However, in the cruise planner I am offered VOOM SURF + STREAM Internet Package at $23.99 / per guest per day. What would be the benefit of also getting the paid service - is it good for additional devices?

Altogether, we will probably bring 2 computers, 2 iPads, and 4 phones - a total of 8 devices (one person has to keep up with work emails on the cruise). My understanding is that with 1 complimentary access each it is possible to use more than one device but only one at a time. So is there any need to sign up for the paid internet service they keep pushing to me in the planner???

  8. Does anyone else think RCCL should revise Icon itineraries to not call at Mexican ports so frequently, given the recent security issues? I don’t think the State Dept “do not travel” warnings apply to the specific port regions where Icon guests will visit, but surely there is a risk of e.g. travel insurance policies dropping the country until things get better? I want to book, but so far all the dates that work for my family have the Western Caribbean itinerary, which gives me pause. I know we could just enjoy the ship and not get off….

  9. Having just browsed the deck plans, I did not see a concierge lounge for suite guests similar to what they have e.g. on the Allure of the Seas. Is this not part of the Icon? Where do you find the concierge? Is happy hour with free drinks gone? We really enjoyed this in the past, but perhaps with the suites only restaurants they see no need for a lounge. 🤔

  10. Passengers booked this May-July have been told earlier today that all sailings until August 6 have been cancelled. This now marks the 4th or 5th cancellation of the maiden voyage! I could not find a press release yet, but the information has started to trickle in through reservations agents.

  11. Does anyone know if the Ritz-Carlton Evrima yacht is on track to launch on November 10? 3 months out there are still no photos or videos of the yacht. When people comment about that on RCYC social media posts there is

no comment. They just continue to post destination photos and computer renderings to generate new bookings.

Hoping to rebook once the line has launched and reviews confirm it’s worth it. The lack of transparency worries me at this point.

We are also on the transatlantic crossing Ft. Lauderdale to Lisbon in April, 2022--after several cancellations, some of which were pre-COVID due to the shipyard.  And some were covid related.  What I find strange:  Why is it to this day there are no real pictures of the ship?  Just virtual pictures.  Even if they haven't started sailing it has to be finished by now.   Makes me wonder if the ship is as good as it looks when computer generated.

I also find it BIZARRE that 3 months prior to the maiden voyage there are no real photos or video of the ship. No hardhat videos from the shipyard showing progress, no room tours, nothing. People have kept commenting on their social media posts that this is odd, but with no response.

Does anyone know if these cruises really are launching in November? There may have been (should have been) more detailed communications directly with booked passengers. I cancelled at the time of the 2nd delay, and will reconsider booking again once I see some reviews after the maiden season. The ship does look like a dream. The question is: Is it only a dream?

  13. Planning to book Uber XL for port transfer for 3 people with luggage. Pick-up point is the Grand Floridian and destination Disney cruise terminal in Cape Canaveral. I think it costs over $100 for the ride, but is that a good trip for Uber drivers or are they likely not to accept? It will be mid-morning on a Monday, so there should not be significant traffic congestion, but there may not be anyone to pick up to bring back to Orlando since all returning passengers would be off the ship by then.

Just wondering if anyone has had experiences with this? Will it be a long wait? My husband likes Uber so not willing to consider other transfer options unless it’s an emergency and Uber is not available. We will take the Disney bus back.

If your friend has her passport number (even in the wrong name), she can just put in the information from that passport, then update the information when the passport arrives. As Shmoo pointed out, even if she doesn't have the correct number, she can probably put in an incorrect number for now too. Since official IDs must be presented at the port, my guess is that the online check-in asks for information to make sure passengers recognize they will need it in order to cruise.

If she is a US citizen on a cruise that departs from and returns to the same US port, she can just use her drivers' license or state ID along with her birth certificate and marriage license, both for online check-in and, if necessary, at the port.

Thank you, these are great suggestions, assuming their online check-in system does not have the ability to verify information? Her old passport under her maiden name is at the passport office being voided, as part of the process of them issuing a new passport.

She is a U.S. citizen, and this passport will definitely arrive soon - just perhaps a few days late for the 75-day online check-in. If DL is allowed for online check-in, she could certainly use that as a placeholder.

I think we will call DCL the day prior to check-in if the passport has not arrived, just to make sure we are doing the right thing. I'll be doing the online check-in on her behalf as soon as this is possible at midnight EST.

Just have her complete the online check in using the "other identification" option.  At such time as the passport comes, she can change the information later.

Or, she can just wait until checking in at the port to change it.

Are you saying the other identification options allows her to completely bypass entering identification? That would be great!

  16. Wondering if anyone has had experience with the following scenario:

I already checked in online with my family for our upcoming cruise and secured a good port arrival time. We are all set. However, we have a person in our party of 6 travelling in a separate stateroom with her husband and kid. She has applied for a passport, but it may not arrive by the time online check-in opens for them (first-time cruisers). It is my understanding she could not complete online check-in and get a port arrival time without a valid ID that matches her name on the Disney reservation. She does have a passport, but it was issued under her maiden name (= last name does not match her name on the DCL reservation) and her birth certificate also has her maiden name.

Could she use her birth certificate to complete online check-in, and present passport when checking in at the port?

If not, can the other two family members in the same room go ahead and check-in and get a PAT...but would she then not be allowed to board with them if her PAT is e.g. an hour later?

Just trying to figure out what the impact is if her passport is delayed. We would like to all board together and make it to the embarkation day sit-down lunch, which I believe means we have to be at the dining room door by 2pm (Disney Dream).
