Oops, duplicate response to what I said last year when this thread was started.  Never mind...

Okay, I've been to Europe several times and have never had a problem with my ATM card except when I tried to wothdraw an amount above my limit.

I have not read all the responses as we are on holiday which included Rome.

As others said it is your bank that tacks on the fee. It is around 3%.

One thing about the ATM's. Some of them took my card and many did not. So just be patient on finding a machine that will work for you.

I look up the Visa network and it lists where I can withdraw cash. For example, here are the Visa debit ATMs in Rome:

I don't have a current booking with Rome in Limo, but have used them 8 times before, and will be using them in 2020 when we are in Rome/Naples. As our bookings tend to be 2 or 3 at a time, we get their multiple booking discount.

I contacted Rome In Limo re shuttles and they are fully booked for our dates. I am booking Rome Shuttle Limousines.

Hello! We are going on a cruise from Rome to Miami. We are going to Rome 3 days early. What is a good hotel that is in the center of Rome to stay in. Also what is the best way to get to the cruise terminal from that point.

    Thanks 🙂

We are going to be in Rome June 29 thru July 2 and then will cruise in HAL's Veendam. I booked A&F Colloseo thru Booking.com for 3 nights for € 244.20. It is located in the center of Rome.

The transport costs will vary by the method of transport. There are many threads here about transport to the port, which range from train to bus to private car to....We highly recommend Rome in Limo...there is a huge thread on them just down the board.

Are you going to just fly in and go direct to the port? Bypassing one of the most amazing cities in the world?

We're flying to Rome and will arrive June 29. We'll stay at a hotel (booked) in Rome and then shuttle to the port on July 2. I plan to use Rome Shuttle Limousine. Their pricing is 50 EU for two from FCO to the hotel and 110 EU for two from the hotel to the port. Bruce, what did Rome in Limo quote you for shuttle service?

  6. This is our first trip to South America, looking for info on transportation and lodging from Santiago airport to Valparaiso. We are planing on arriving the day before sailing. How far is the airport to the port? Any suggestions of we're to stay at airport or at hotel in Valparaiso? And what are the costs and what is the currency? Thanks.

Not sure when you are going but the currency is Chilean pesos which are about 650 to our dollar.

For transport, contact this person: christianroymx@hotmail.com

He is known as the "Van Man".

  7. Hi....we'll be taking a trip from Valparasia, Chile back to Florida in March of 2016. I'm thinking we'll need to get to Chile at least 1-2 days before we sail and wonder if any one can recommend a nice (not too pricy) place that might be near the port? Any suggestions and reviews are welcome. Thanks! :)

Hi, we're on the same itinerary, I think - Celebrity Infinity departing March 13th.

I booked the Da Vinci hotel, which was quite reasonable ($170 for two nights) and only 4 kms from the cruise terminal.

  8. Thanks for the info on Telestial, must check it out.

We're not big cell users so rates don't matter that much (up to a point) but nice to have. I have the cheap phone from Mobal.com , plan works well and no issues regarding billing etc so now I must compare their rates with Telestial . . .

    We're also considering:

    http://www.callineurope.com/

They sell SIMs and their rates are very good.

  9. Any further updates on what European SIM card to buy? I already have an unlocked GSM phone and I tested it with an Italian SIM card (a friend's) yesterday. It worked perfectly.

So, now I need to choose where to buy a SIM card. I am considering telestial, callineurope and eurobuzz (looks to be less expensive to make calls).

    What do you recommend?

  10. my new sprint smartphone also does not work in europe, but would on the cruise ship at very high rates (think was near $3 min). look at www.telestial.com for a prepaid global phone package you can get before you go. I can't report yet on if they are any good, but will know in a few weeks :)

Looking forward to your experience. I am looking at these carriers:

    http://www.mobal.com/ very expensive call rates

    http://www.eurobuzz.com/ .79 / minute

http://www.cellomobile.com/ rent or buy - rates depend on type of call

    http://www.telestial.com/ more expensive than eurobuzz

http://www.callineurope.com/ simple rate structure - less than eurobuzz

  11. I have read most of the threads and my question is slightly different.

After a cruise the flight back from Spain would be $1700 one way and $1000 return.

If I booked return tickets and threw the return away............

Would there be any possiblity of financial problems with the airlines and also with immigration, considering we live in the US?

I tried Aer Lingus and I don't seam to be able to do a BCN-MSP or Malaga-MSP

After living in Italy for a year, I flew back from Milan. I booked a Milan-US return ticket and threw away the return.
