Thank You @LACruiser88!!!  That’s what I figured too. Hopefully that is the case. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the rest of your cruise and look forward to following your great live from thread🙂🙂🙂

It will be in dry dock from March 11th to April 1st.  Looked it up on a cruise timetable.

I have been looking to see what might be changed in dry dock.  We are booked on the July trans-Atlantic.

  2. As a civil engineer, I was geeking out going through the historic locks.  I would rather walk around on the open decks or the Promenade deck to see the wall go up and down. And then wandering from the front to back to see other ships in the locks.

  3. Trying to figure out what sparkling water is available on board.  More like LaCroix, AHA (Coke product) or Bubly.

Soda w/ the packages comes out of the soda gun, but wondering if the sparkling water is available with packages in the can.

According to the Port Everglades Terminal Assignment listing, Sky Princess will be at Terminal #2 and will depart at 10:00 PM on December 1st.  It will also use Terminal #2 on the December 4th cruise.

I suspect it will always use Terminal #2 if there are no major conflicts.

Terminal #2 is the Princess Medallion Terminal.  Any medallion ships will go there first esp. the Royal Class.

  5. Although we have enjoyed Anytime dining on other cruiselines, we are new to the Princess line and needed some guidance on the best dining option for us. We originally picked Anytime dining.... and switched to 5:45 Traditional, after reading many negative posts on how long it took to be seated.

When scheduling our dining time, we are trying to keep in mind the times returning from port, and enjoying the nightly show.

Thank you to everyone who responded. You have given some great feedback!

We have done Anytime on our 12-day British Isles and 5-day Caribbean. Only had to wait long enough for the hostess to walk back and forth. The best thing we like about anytime was scheduling meals based on what you wanted to do.

We found that the fun set our times. There were days on 12-day where we had to be on board at 3 pm. So that was enough time to clean-up and hit the food. While the later port days, we just shifted to later in the evening or timed it for when a show or activity was.

Granted we usually skip the main show and look for the "side acts" like comedian or magician. Scheduling meals for the main show always seemed impossible.

We are converts to only doing Anytime Dining. You can still pick the same table to eat at if you like the servers. You get a mixed bag of dinner mates, but even in traditional you get that.

  6. We were on the Crown Princess to Alaska in July. We went with our kids and grandkids, 9 in total. We have always done TD late seating. This time we did AT dining. We had no problems and usually were seated immediately at the same wait staff station so we got to know them and vice versa. We did have to wait once for about 20 minutes.

We enjoyed the flexibility and convenience.

    Cheers.

We have a group of 9 going next year. Do they have one table for that number? Or do we tell the kids good luck and ditch them for meals....:p

  7. Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this topic.

We are planning on fun excursions to keep them occupied during the port days. The sea days will be filled with looking for wildlife and playing ping pong/eating ice cream.

We have decided that the benefits of Princess far out weigh the negatives.

    Thanks!!

  8. We are planning our BIG vacation for 2016. We are going back to Alaska with the kids and bringing some friends. The kids in the group will be G10, G12 and B12.

All (kids and adults) are use to the outdoors and have been on cruises before. My wife and i went to Alaska 6 years ago on Princess and it was great.

Now we are debating between Princess again and Royal Caribbean.

I know that Princess is King..err...Queen in Alaska. But for the kids, will Princess be entertaining enough. Royal would be more geared for kids. But this is Alaska not the Caribbean, so does that really matter.

As I type, I am be continuing to talk myself into Princess.

The ports are the same. Both start in Vancouver. Royal has Icy Strait added. Princess does Glacier Bay. They end in different ports, but you aren't really there that long for it to matter.

Any thoughts with those that traveled or observed the kid's in Alaska...

  9. One 750-ml bottle of wine or champagne per person -- carry-on, don't put in checked luggage. No fee if consumed in your cabin; a $15 corkage fee if brought to the dining room.

Additional bottles of wine/champers permitted but for the $15/bottle corkage fee to be paid at embarkation. These can be consumed anywhere aboard without incurring an additional corkage fee in the dining room/restaurants.

    No hard liquor; no beer.

Soft drinks and bottled water -- go nuts. They're all allowed, as much as you want.

Princess is silent on bringing the soda, while the mother ship Carnival specifically states in their FAQ that you are allowed to bring x number of soda per person.

If we bring the soda, etc., should that be in our carry-on?
