  1. Hello, my friend! :)

I don't know the definitive answer to this one, but I can share what one couple (that I met on the recent Dawn sailing) did for arranging this.

She pretty much drinks wine only (and introduced me to a few I'd never heard of) , and he enjoyed his favorite three cocktails throughout the day. They pre-booked the Corks/Caps for the two of them (required), and then he did an upgrade to his alone once onboard.

Each time I encountered them, she'd be holding her wine glass, and he a cocktail. Happy clams! ;)

    .

    Hello!!!!

Oh, how brilliant!!! Thanks Don. I think I may actually go ahead and book in this fashion. It may work. If it doesn't, then we both just upgrade, I suppose.

  2. See also this earlier discussion:

    Confusing Information from NCL

NCL's published terms do not explicitly say "the same package" but that seems to be how it is supposed to work. But as with everything concerning the UBP, it's probably worth asking on board if you want something different because people have reported being able to obtain significant "adjustments" to the official guidelines depending on the ship or the sailing or the staff member who they deal with.

Thank you! This is exactly the type of conversation/thread that I was looking for.

I appreciate all of the responses. It sounds like I may just need to get onboard and order what I want and hope for the best. I'm still hoping that I can get the UBP for me and the Corks and Caps for my cabin mate. We'll see.

Now ... if I could only convince them that the soda package is COMPLETELY lost on the child who is sailing with us but that is a whole other can of worms:D:p:rolleyes:

  3. I'm sorry that I feel the need to start yet another question about the Ultimate Beverage Package but I couldn't seem to find my answer while weeding my way through the tons of answers I found in my search ... so here it is:

Since there are 2 types of packages available (just wine and beer or the one with mixed drinks included), do both adults in the room need to get the same package? I'm looking at the more inclusive one but my cabin mate only drinks beer so the extras wouldn't be needed in their case.

  4. Bad reviews like the two people above your post who loved the Epic?? Why is it that a "bad" review carries so much more weight than a "good" one? So 71% of the people who bother to review like/love the Epic? Not bad, IMO. Even if 100% of responders liked something, it doesn't mean YOU would like it.

Very good point! Your last line says it all though ... if the Epic interests you, book it and form your own opinion. Don't be swayed by what others think. I doubt any of us will ever have a 'perfect' cruise. My trip onboard the Epic was far from perfect but it certainly made enough of an impression on me to book again (and again!).

I'm super excited about boarding her for the 2nd time in a few weeks:D

  5. I'm from Ontario (the province, not the California city) and I loved the Ice Bar. We actually plan on going again on our upcoming cruise. The drinks are good, the ambience is fun - heck, where else can you enjoy a frozen bar while sailing in the middle of the Caribbean?:D

  6. How would you know which cabins have the bed by the balcony?

I would want that set up as well.

    Don

Don, if you look at the floorplan you will see that every cabin has a flat wall and then a curved wall. The bed will be where the curve is convex in the picture. The concave part is the sofa. Just look for the convex part to be near the balcony.

    Hope that makes sense.

  7. Yes, they will adjust the bill for the number of adults and issue an OBC for the difference

Yes, the do the children's adjustments once on board. The catch is that to prebook 3 seats you will have to prebook 4 seats and pay $100. There is no way to book just 3 seats before hand. I had to book 2 parties of 4 for our one party of 7 to guarantee with get seats on the date and time we wanted. Once onboard i plan to cancel and ask the concierge to book 5 adults, 1 child and 1 free 3 year old.

Thank you both! I just logged onto my ncl and I can book 3 seats, all at the $25 price. Now to figure out when we shall go!

  8. While I don't doubt the list being reported, I have to say that the design of the ship doesn't have an influence on this incident. Many have sailed the ship before (me included) and she was very stable.

This whole movement thing is very new ... since she came back to Miami.

I am again going to throw out this question - does the captain of the ship have anything to do with all of this? Do some captain deploy the stabilizers and ballast less than others?

  9. Wow, definitely scary stuff! It does sound like it is more weather related than a ship issue though. I've been stalking the Epic's webcam since her return to Miami, I haven't really seen much great weather actually. The camera lens is more often than not covered with droplets of water and it is not located down low on the ship.

I am glad to hear that there were no injuries though. OP, thanks for letting us know.

  10. I'm finding the talk about movement on the Epic quite interesting actually. Like others have said, it is a ship and it is on the ocean so it will move. Heck, that is why I love cruising. I love the feeling of the movement of a ship.

Now, with that said, my first voyage on the Epic was pretty darned smooth and with this recent chatter about the movement, I have to wonder:

Do different captains treat their ships differently? By that I mean, are some more apt to utilize ballast tanks and stabilizers more than others? This excessive movement thing has only recently started to be discussed. It never seemed to be a huge issue before.

    Just wondering:D

  11. Not having sailed the Mediterranean I can't compare, hopefully someone else can. That said, having sailed Eastern Caribbean three times and this one being so bad the entire time and the waters not being bad, I would bet money it would happen even in the Mediterranean unless the water is like glass over there or the wind is nonexistent. Most of the sailing over there is pretty close to shore or in harbours though isn't it, so might be better.

It's interesting that you bring up the rocking of the ship - I wonder if different captains do different thing? By that I mean, would some use the stabilizers and ballast tanks more so than others?

I'm only asking because other than our first night on the Epic, she was smooth as silk (and I am pretty sure there is a different captain on the ship now).
