I doubt they will go bankrupt. They will definitely have some financial issues but not like their business will be dead. Anyhow, they can always lend money to pay the crew and cover taxes and "parking" and maintenance of the ship. I am sure the demand will be super high in summer. I heard in the news that the virus dies to high temperatures. Maybe its a good season to start cruising again. Will see

I read a study recently which claimed  that a high temperature did kill the virus.

    But its 133 degrees  Fahrenheit

The study concluded that humidified hot air of that temperature for 5 minutes every hour for several days blown  in the sinuses did kill the virus.

Unfortunately that's not easy to achieve for most of us.

And I don't even know if it has been properly researched or corroborated.

We took a 14 day Norway fjords RT Southampton cruise in June 2016. It was one of the best itineraries we ever cruised. The ports were all very nice. Weather was mostly warm, except for the North Cape where it was colder and windy. Scenery was spectacular. In June 24 hours of daylight above the arctic circle, little less below.

Have only been to Iceland once and only to the capital. From what I have seen the ports in Norway appear to be much better.

That's very much a matter of opinion.

Where in Norway are geysers? Volcanoes? Lava fields?  Geothermal lagoons to swim in?  Huge waterfalls?

Iceland is an amazing place to see.  Not Rejkavik the capital there is not much to see there at all.

Nice! They definitely are being generous with upgrades on Sky. I booked an interior for a Baltic cruise, got upgraded to an obstructed view balcony on Emerald deck, then about a week later got upgraded again to a deluxe balcony on Dolphin. I’m scheduled to sail on May 17, so hoping things are up and running by then so that I can actually enjoy my fabulous accommodations.

Maybe I am confused but we were booked on the transatlantic April 11th which is cancelled so how are Princess going to get the ship to Baltic for these cruises?

    Sail it empty?

Strange,, that they have excluded the UK. We have as many cases here as a lot of the rest of Europe (5 European countries have more, but about 30 have less)

But Italy has a load more, its really bad there for some reason, and in the Schengen Area there are no travel controls so people can move from one country to another  without restriction or record -

UK and Ireland aren't in Schengen Area so in theory Italians couldn't travel there without record and then go to US.

And Trump says he realizes UK is taking it more seriously than EU countries are

This is all going to delay it a bit I guess, we are all going to get this sooner or later if we are susceptible

So for us the question is will Princess cancel our April 11th Sky transatlantic to Copenhagen?

Viking have cancelled ALL cruises until May 1st

  5. It also depends on what "Europe" is as far as these rules.

    Is it the European Union?

In which case it would include Republic of Ireland which has an open border with UK

Or if its geographical Europe then travel to the US might be allowed from non European parts of Turkey and Russia but not the European parts

And what will stop people from Europe travelling to UK by some means and then hopping on a flight to US?

Going to have to be some tight rules drafted

I not have not seen pre-set drinkware on any Horizon Court on all my sailings. I have only seen tables cleaned promptly. This is just more of your well known anti-Princess agenda.

They certainly did use to pre set the mugs and glasses on the tables in the buffet for breakfast.

And I am certainly not anti Princess

How come Princess ships are the only ones we hear of as having issues with the virus and not other cruiselines?

I would say -  and no doubt will get shot down in flames - that its a combination of at least

Bad Luck and failing to listen to passengers with concerns

Commercial greed by having many passengers from China and Cruises in Asia

    Poor hygiene by some crew

Swapping crew from one ship to another

Number of ships with longer cruises

Lack of effective enforcement of handwashing

Passengers who for some reason have lower standards of hygiene than other cruiselines, due to age infirmity or socio-economic reason.

Lot of this applies to Noro of course

When is your cruise due to depart Griller??  Sounds like the TA is trying to pocket your money 😧 They are either ill informed or crooks.

Before cancelling with our TA I went to the Princess website and cancelled the extras I had paid for on the cruise personaliser.  Princess refunded my shore excursions and beverage packages directly to my bank account two days later.

Please visit Princess.com and look up the cancellation policies, they are as follows -

    image.png.c78aff2c2c2fcdf140e0e7a2cd9b3706.png

You will get a refund/future cruise credits valid to 31/12/2021 depending on how many days to departure you are.

Hi I already sent them that as I had the email from Princess but they don't believe it apparently, and I paid per day on my cruise fare for the extras, not online.

I am not even sure we want to cancel yet but it may happen depending on what I would get back and what happens in the next few days.

This was a UK booking but it should not make any difference but the agents there are really not clued up about anything.

Cruise is departing April 11th so there is time yet for things to settle - maybe.

  9. Emailed the large agency we booked with in UK and they know nothing about any changes to cancellation policy and told me I would only get a small percentage back and nothing at all for the beverage package or prepaid gratuities or wifi.

So we have not yet cancelled as its not worth doing to get so little returned.

I would rather wait and hope Princess cancel it but I somehow think that wont be happening as they get a grip on the situation.

Last time I will ever book with them. They consistently display remarkable ignorance.

It's not a matter of what you look like, it's a matter of whether you choose to put yourself in an environment that is potentially more of a risk based on whatever condition one has.  This is what I call having common sense.

I'm not even sure a cruise would be enjoyable at the moment with all this going on.

Do you remember if their ships were sailing full then or only partially full??

I can remember Cunard giving 8 category upgrades which took us from an outside to a Queens Grill suite at no extra charge

    That hasn't happened since either.

As to full or not then its hard to say unless the ship is really really empty.

But I've seen whole decks closed off on Princess around that time so those sailings must have been unpopular.

But that's not true.  If I buy 100 shares at $33 per share and it goes down to $28 three days later, that $500 difference would now buy me another 17 or 18 shares - or i would have saved $500 by waiting three days.

Yes its true, but trying to time the market is futile

Just bite the bullet when it seems reasonable to buy 100 and keep on getting the tax free OBC cruise after cruise until your OBC exceeds your initial purchase cost and then you're really in profit even though you haven't sold

At current rates if you get 12 x 14day OBC your stock will be paid for.

    Talking about Cruise Critic.

As I said before most buy for the OBC not the investment.

    Take a chill pill.

I think its true that out of the individual l holders of CCL stock that a huge number of them have bought just 100 to get the OBC

But institutional investors own most of the stock.

And unfortunately their computers seem to panic easily and put a sell order in

I know my bank SunTrust own a big chunk on behalf of investors.

And the Arison family still own quite a bit one way and another,  if we are hurting with the stock halving in value then Michael Arison must be experiencing the death of a thousand knives right now.

Did they suspend the OBC too at that time?

No I don't think they ever have, its always been renewed annually as long as I can remember.

I think it probably brings more money in than it costs

Have to consider onboard spend which is all important these days in cruiseline profitability

I'd like to see more OBC for larger blocks of share ownership. Like double OBC for 1000 shares?

That has nothing to do with liquidity, which is what CCL needs to worry about at the moment.  The problem for CCL is short term liabilities compared to cash.

Carnival have been buying back stock over the past few years and could raise cash by selling again, however they would make a horrible loss on the deal, and would have to carefully time any sales to not depress the price further.

Until recently the value of the company taking everything into consideration was reckoned to be about $65 per share.

  16. Carnival Debt/Equity ratio   0 .38

    NCL                                         1.04

    Royal Caribbean                    0.74

Carnival's debt is regarded as "conservatively managed"

Figures are from end of 2019

Low numbers good - higher numbers bad.

    I agree with that.

Problem for the cruise lines, however, is they are heavily leveraged.  If the world stops cruising for a few months they will go bankrupt.

Some more likely than others I think - …. I hope Carnival is least likely

I think its big enough to survive., less leveraged

Like if you owe the bank a million dollars and you cant pay then you're in trouble

But if you owe them 10 billion dollars and you cant pay then the bank is in trouble

  18. 1 minute ago, Stateroom_Sailor said:

Absolutely.  Even though we are leaning towards Carnival brands these days, I might pick up 100 shares from some the other lines as well.

NCL don't pay a dividend and to get $250 OBC it has to be 15 days cruise, and they don't have too many of those

Royal Caribbean/Celebrity only let you have one OBC generally so if you have stock you may lose other OBC but have been paying 70c dividend.

    I don't have either, and wish I didn't have Carnival right now...…………………………..
