I got the same notice a couple of months ago about our 1/7/24 11 night Anthem cruise. Same bs, now going to only 4 ports instead of the usual 5 ports. They want to make our guest experience better. What's the chance of getting some,OBC to compensate?

When did you get a notice about that and which port  did they elimanate?  Have not received notification of any changes

  2. Oh yes, it was safe. I tend to get a little "freaked out" walking around sometimes just because you don't know how safe places really are. This was the most safe I've felt. Honestly the ABC islands seem to be a little different than the other southern Caribbean islands. You don't get hassled and things like that. I never felt once like I was somewhere I shouldn't be or anything like that. I was a little worried walking around at night since we went to dinner after dark but when we did it, I felt completely at ease! The ride to Mambo was about 15 mins. The only reason it was a little longer is because we had to drop a couple other people off to places on our way. But it was a cool way to see the island!

    Thank you! Can't wait 😀

  3. Thanks for sharing your review and photos. I have a question about Curacao. That long walk from the pier to the bus stop, was it safe? How long was the ride to Mambo? Thinking about doing this at least one way since there are 4 of us and as you said (and I have read prior) taxi fares are steep.

  4. I hope the food improves for the Caribbean sailings. I'll be on in December... Hope to hear some good reviews for her when she gets to Fl.
I hope so too. I also didn't expect to read that she is looking old and tired considering a major overhaul was completed last year.

I agree about the pot pies on a MDR menu. Never seen that yet.

  5. Also try airfare to Fort Lauderdale. We have an upcoming cruise out of Miami, but for us (Atlanta), airfare is cheaper if we fly to FLL instead of MIA. There are five of us, so the saving is significant. We will rent a car in Miami for drop off in FLL, where we will drop four off at port, and then the driver will go to the car rental near the port and be shuttled back to the port. Again, with five, the savings will be significant. Don't know if it would pay off for you, but at least check the price. We always go a day early and we have a hotel in Miami.
Do you know what rental car agencies are closest to port of Miami that offer a free shuttle back to port when dropping off rental?

Not only was there a 1000 people on a pool deck designed for 400, and a pool designed for 50 (my opinion). There were no deck chairs available anywhere near the pool. Im not saying all of them were occupied, there were entire rows of chairs with towels on them that never had anybody sit on them. Maybe Im wrong, but I think the "northern" attitude of the majority of the cruisers had something to do with it. Remember when I talked about embarkation, and how lots of people were trying to game the system, and break into lines to get an advantage in boarding? well, that same mindset was on display when it came to loungers. Im used to "chair hogs" on the other cruises I have been on leaving from southern ports, Southerners can be chair hogs too, but the amount of it going on during this cruise was over the top.

I know this is cruise critic, so let the angry replies to my last paragraph begin.

That is simply not the case. The pool is a joke and the upper deck is poorly designed with limited space resulting in not enough loungers available. This is also a problem on the Getaway (same class) I've cruised from the area with other lines/ships and NEVER did I experience these issues like on Breakaway. It is by far the worst and has nothing to with the area, the problem falls with the ship itself.
  7. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm thinking about trying Breakaway again and you reminded me of the slow service in the MDR. Ours was the same way with some unpleasant staff a few nights. <sigh>

What was the entertainment like every night? Are there any new theater shows and comedians? We LOVED Rock of Ages, didn't care for Burn the Floor at all.

  8. the trolley stop is in front of the Publix store, very close to HyattPlace. The trolley makes a continuous loop about every half hour. It is $1/person to ride each time you get on. The same place you get off at the beach is where you will stand to get on to go back to hotel.

    Thanks for the info.

  9. Totally agree!! Depending on how much time we have, we like taking the trolley ($1/per person) down to the beach area. With Publix, Total Wine, and Carlos & Pepes there isn't much more we would need. We also love to walk to we will generally walk down to the 17th Street bridge and watch the ships in port.

HyattPlace, Embassy Suites & Extended Stay America are all in a short span on 17th street. We have stayed at them all and just look for the least expensive for a particular precruise night or two.

We have Hyatt Place booked and hoping to spend some time at the beach. Is the trolley right in front of the hotel? How long is the ride there and is it easy to get the trolley to return back to the hotel? Thanks.
  10. Hi Chris - Thanks for taking us along & love your photos!

Can I ask you a favor re the drink packages. We sail Lady O in July & RCCL is showing a 20% discount on the premium package. However the price is only $2.00 less than we saw it for last week & what we paid onboard last July. They claim they raised the onboard premium price from its original $49 plus 18%.

Would love a first hand update.......Many on the boards are questioning RCCL's math too with this so called 20%.

Many thanks & have a wonderful day at sea!

I saw the same prices too for my July cruise yesterday. The typical Royal so called sales....inflated prices then make offers for sales. Somehow their math never really works!
  11. Wow - you certainly had an action packed day 1!

I have what is probably a very stupid question! Last time on Oasis (Nov 2015) we bought VOOM for one device while onboard. For our sailing leaving this Saturday, there is a 30% off sale so it is only $10.50USD per day so I bought it ahead of time. I assume that is the Surf & Stream one referenced in the photo? I don't remember there being multiple options for type of internet in Nov 2015.

I was about to ask the same question. I thought Oasis was upgraded with Voom and had one option at $15 a day. The list of different options at different pricing is the first time I'm hearing of it.

  12. Great start already, Gambee![emoji106] Excited to follow your review on my favorite ship. It's unfortunate about the changes in the entertainment reservations. They did the same thing on our Quantum and Anthem cruises just not to that extent. The table tennis area was always there by the Wipeout Cafe. Loving the amazing pictures as always.

  13. Yes, I booked Easter week last June before our schools released the calendar, and to my luck they moved spring break to the week before Easter instead of after for 2017. Now I have to switch, if prices don't drop I will eventually cancel altogether. It's supposed to be for my 40th birthday but I will make other plans if need be.
I did the same thing last June and April booking two different cruises not knowing the school schedule. I booked the Navigator 4/14/17 and Harmony 4/8/17. I did this because as of late I realized if Passover is the week right before Easter they end up choosing the Passover week. Recently found out the new 2016-2017 school schedule and I was right.....4/8/17, so I am thrilled as I prefer Harmony over the Navigator even though it is 2 less days and more money.

We normally cruise in the summer time and I just knew that the Harmony prices will be very steep. Now I am waiting for the Anthem Summer 2017 schedule. I'm happy knowing that I have Harmony booked as my back up in April in case the Anthem prices for the summer are very high which I am fully expecting. Fun part is playing "musical" cruises.:D

  14. All of the Suites for January 2018 on the Adventure are showing as sold out. I wonder if RCCL has taken them off to re-price them. They were a great deal!

Interesting, the suites on the Adventure for August and the last 2 weeks in July are now showing sold out too. I shown have known the prices were too good to be true.

  15. Hi Matt! It was nice meeting you at the solarium right before sailaway. We walked over to the wing after but it looked too cramped there with barely any room left so went outside by the North Star. Turned out to be a great sunny day!

We had a wonderful time! From your review and pictures looks like you did as well. Anthem is absolutely a gorgeous ship! Wish I was there right now.

  16. Let's hope they are b/c if this is the best the prices are going to get...people are going to be fuming.

I have connecting staterooms on Harmony for April 2017 that are $1000 less than what is now out there for Harmony at end of Aug 2017...when it's supposed to be a cheaper time to go...prices are crazy high right now.

The last week in August is always the least expensive for the summer months but I have yet to see that week cheaper than April and certainly don't expect it to be for Harmony in its first Caribbean summer cruises.
