I've done it several times.  There are two different ports for ferries from Naples to Capri.

The port with the fast ferries is Molo Beverello, adjacent to the cruise port.

The port for the slower, larger ferries is Porta di Massa, about a third of a mile further up the port from the cruise terminal.

The fast ferries all take the same 50 minutes or so to make the crossing.

Simply pick the one with the departure time that best suits your arrival.

There is no need to purchase the return on the same line, again pick the time that works best for you.  There is no financial benefit to purchasing both from one company, they are sold as two individual tickets.

Normally I suggest waiting until you're there to purchase the tickets as they are difficult/impossible to change or get refunded if you miss the ferry or don't go at all.  However, passenger loads last year were enormous so purchasing in advance is something to think about.  If you do it, buy directly from the ferry operator, not through a third party.

The current schedule can be seen here, but more crossings will be added as the season approaches:  2023 Capri ferry schedules: from Napoli to Capri - Book online

Here are the web sites for the two primary operators between Naples and Capri:

This is very helpful, we will be there next summer, again 🙂

My husband and I will be spending four days in Paris post our transatlantic cruise. Can anyone recommend a tour company that we could use that would offer transportation to and from our hotel for  a half day tour of Versailles?

    Thank you so much,

    Susan Widsten

Don't go with Viator, book the guide or tour company directly and save money.

My goodness.  A cruise ship call will certainly attract attention as I do not recall any previous mention of one. la Ciotat used to be all about shipbuilding until that collapsed and the yards lay derelict for many years.  the town fell into a slight decline during that period, but more recently (maybe 20 plus years ago!) the local council decided to promoter tourism instead, and made many improvements to promenade, beaches etc. and it worked.  It became more and more popular with tourists, many of them international.  And even more recently, the abandoned shipyards were reinvented as facilities to maintain and repair superyachts as they were big enough and deep enough to accommodate these mega yachts.  That initiative also brought in a skilled workforce.  Townsfolk are used to seeing mega yachts there, but I expect a cruise ship will draw crowds of sightseeers. The French Govt (or their Customs Division) recently seized a superyacht belonging to a Russian Oligarch when sanctions were introduced.

if you are into early cinema and the history of cinema,, the town has a major connection to the Lumieres Brothers.   There is a daily market, several nice beaches, and a couple of calanques which can be visited without transport although may be too much of a hike unless only viewed from above.  The main town beach is quite attractive too and an easy walk of only a few minutes from the harbour, so no taxi or car rental needed. In summer (depending on your departure time), there is also an evening market around the harbour area.  The usual crafts etc.  There should be much info online on all things la Ciotat.  Although the harbour and old town areas are not especially famous, they are definitely worth a stroll  For a "relaxed" day there should be enough to interest you. Sanary and Cavalaire are like la Ciotat, minor seaside towns, pleasant enough for relaxing exploration, although Cavaillon is actually quite famous for its beaches.

As for meals, can only suggest you look at recent online reviews such as TA as our last visit was pre-pandemic in September 2019, and I do not know how many of the town restaurants have reopened.  There used to be lots of them on the edge of the old town overlooking the harbour. The same will apply to Sanary and Cavalaire- read latest reviews.

As August is the main European holiday month, you can expect the town to be busy busy and your ship to attract much attention.

I think your plan sounds good. And although these towns are not famous like Nice or Cannes,, they offer a more authentic French seaside experience.

PS  To help your internet searches, please note spelling.  It is NOT LE CIOTET, but LA CIOTAT.

Thanks you, this is really helpful 🙂

When a cruise ship (this case Royal Caribbean) docks in Spain (Malaga, Cartagena, Valencia & Palma)  Does the ship usually dock with a particular side of the ship facing port?   I'm on the starboard side.

I am just curious 🙂  what would change?

I hope you aren’t referring to Viking being panned!  In our opinion they are heads above the others - but that’s because they have a niche market we like.  Casual, no children, no casinos, nearly all inclusive so no nickel dining, no photographers, emphasis on education, let in, and history lectures….  If those aren’t for you don’t bother.

we did Rome to Barcelona last December.  Spectacular cruise.  Would do it again!

You made me want to go on this cruise 🙂

hope it's okay to tag on a question of my own...

we will be in Salerno port in July from 7am-6pm on RCL cruise.

Here are our plans.  Using Rome In Limo:  pick up at port at 7:30 and go to Pompeii. Then on to Sorrento and Positano, then back to the port.

I really really don't want to miss Positano. I don't know much about Sorrento.

Is this plan doable? should we just skip Sorrento and go straight to Positano?

The Rome in Limo tour says it stops for lunch in Sorrento then a bit of free time, then on to Positano.

Thanks for any insight and tips/recommendations.

I would definitely go with tour company suggestion, let them know what you want to do and ask then to plan it in the best way. Have fun planing 🙂
