  1. Hmmm. Not really a big issue to get euros, the ATMs are everywhere. Certainly not a 'worry' to us, anyway. And if your plans change, you are out the $$$$.

If it saved time, as when visiting the Colosseum, I could understand pre-buying.

I must agree, just inform your bank about your oversea trip, you also get a better exchange fee using certain ATM's!!

  2. Have just returned from a christmas cruise with MSC. We used Romeinlimo for our 5th time for a tour of Rome which we undertook with friends who had never been before. Once again we had excellent service, driver waiting at the gate in the port, a very comfortable mercedes car and Franco was our driver and guide. His english is excellent and even though it is our 5th time in Rome, he still gave us new information and showed us the usual tourist sites for our friends and also ones we hadnt been before, namely the catecombs. He dropped us at a wonderful restaurant for our lunch which was a high standard but bery reasonably priced. We once again packed in a huge amount of sightseeing and arrived back at the port in plenty of time for our ship, without ever feeling that we were on a "whirlwind tour". Thankyou again Romeinlimo and we will definitely use your company again and I would recommend this company for anyone especially from a cruise as if there are at least 4 of you, it works out cheaper than the ships excursions, and you will see far more.:)

It seems you had a great day :) thanks for sharing your experience with us.

  3. Excellent advice! I just looked at the rates and ours has gone UP about 200 euros (for three nights) since we booked , so I'm glad we booked early!

I should agree, same over here.

I trust more to the review here on CruiseCritic rather the one on Trip Advisor!

  4. Whenever we hear stories like this our reaction is simply.....ahhhhh it's Italy! We love traveling in Italy and learned many years ago to just accept these kind of things and go with the flow. Naples is certainly no stranger to garbage strikes but this should have little impact on those taking excursions or going on their own to places outside the city (and suburbs). Those going to Capri would not have to put up with much of Naples since its only a short walk from the cruise port to the ferry terminal :)

    Hank

    Ditto :)

  5. The vast majority of posts before ours have done an excellent job of describing the impeccable service we also received from Rome In Limo. Starting with the original contacts with Jany, to being dropped off at the airport in Naples we received no less than excellent care. Impeccable service--excellent care.

Our cruise had been delayed and then cancelled part way through our itinerary which caused our originally scheduled tours in Naples, Rome and Florence with Rome In Limo to be delayed or cancelled. Working with Jany through emails and telephone calls before we disembarked in Naples allowed us to salvage a tour in Rome and a tour of the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento,Positano and Pompeii. Without Jany's sincere cooperation and understanding we never would have been able to make these tours happen.

Our driver from Rome,Gabriele, picked us up in Naples, transported us to Rome where our tour began, then transported us back to Naples. We were picked up promptly at 8am and dropped off just before 8pm...Gabriele had another drive back to home in Rome. A very long day for him.

Gabriele did an excellent job of mixing history lessons with jokes as well as answering questions that we had. Gabriele had the knowledge and the expertise to quickly move us from site to site to make the most of our limited time...as well as snapping pictures of our group at various sites. Memories for sure :)

Massimo was our guide at the Vatican Museums and St. Peters Basilica. "Exceptional" is the first word that comes to mind for an overall description of Massimo's service. His knowledge, his visual aides, anecdotes and attention to small details like finding out of the way locations to explain what we were seeing without being drowned out by other shouting guides was impressive.

Diego was our driver for the tour of the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento,Positano. He then transported us to Pompeii to meet our guide. What a gem!!! Diego had all the knowledge and expertise of his area that we had seen with Gabriele in Rome. Again,More than just a history lesson,Diego was able to mix in jokes and stories about the area. One of our take-away memories is driving along the Amalfi coast and Sorrento area singing "That's Amore" and "Volare"...admittedly Diego was the one that knew all the words.

Constanze was our guide at Pompeii. She also was obviously very knowledgeable about the site and the facts that have been uncovered or pieced together. We enjoyed that Constanze obviously was having a good time doing what she loved to do...teach. The tour was not a history lesson but a learning experience. She took the knowledge that she had and added her personality to it to bring the Pompeii experience to life so to make you want to learn more.

Our Rome In Limo experience ended with a bright and chipper Diego dropping us off at the Naples airport the following morning.

Rome In Limo truly went out of their way to help salvage what could have been a very disappointing end to a once in a lifetime travel experience.

So sorry to read about your cruise canceling, which cruise line? what's happened to your ship?

  6. I have used RIL many times over the past years, and have always tipped the drivers! You will feel "happy" to tip them as they really do make the day for you.

It is a personal decision and depends on your financial standing. Some are on a tighter budget than others. I tip the usual 15% for satisfactory service, and more for exemplary service. I confess I have always had exemplary service with RIL and feel certain you will too.

I hope this is helpful and at least gives you one more opinion. :)

I must agree with you, tipping is also very personal.

  7. It's amazing how much you can cram into a RomeinLimo tour in Rome. Have a look at the blog post I did about our day in Rome to get an idea, you can find it here We had a wonderful day and saw so much. I would definitely get a guide for the Vatican. Ours was absolutely brilliant.

What a great blog, thanks for sharing it with us :)

  8. Yes, you are correct. Unfortunately, we screwed-up big time by using them. They had some bad reviews last year on Cruise Critic and we chose to ignore them and try them anyway because of the price... but, as usual, you get what you pay for. :(

Yep, you always get what you pay for :(

  9. Worst experience of our cruise. Forgot about our excursion - completely - and left two of our people in Rome. Completely ruined a 12-hour day in Rome for 19 people - many of whom had never seen Rome before. :(

There is a large roll call from May 4th Carnival Legend that could give you an earful about how terrible things worked-out for them in 3 different ports using Smart Cruise Tours. All three tours were arranged by three different individuals and had three different groups of people on the tours.

Yours is only one of the many negative reviews coming out lastly here and on trip advisor, thanks for sharing your experience with us.

You should be careful when reading reviews and comments, check for feedbacks on a reviewer and other reviews online, not everything you read online is correct or true, only my 2cent :)

  10. Those that did positano, Pompeii and Sorrento where did you eat for lunch and what was the cost roughly pp?

We were not on RIL tour but had a great lunch in "La tagliata" restaurant, amazing food, great view and not expensive at all.

  11. Haven't seen any recent reviews re: this company. I wonder if anyone has toured with them lately?

    Thanks.

After checking their reviews online on cruisecritic and trip advisor, I would choose a different tour company, google their name and you will understand what I am saying. as I said on a different thread, sometimes saving money = spending little more!!

  12. Your experience is what I am trying to avoid. I just booked with "Private tour of Rome" and I have not seen them on CC. Has anyone heard of them?

You are both lucky, it could have been worse. I hope I don't have a problem.

    Thank you.

I have seen your question allover and I understand you are in panic now, if this is what you are trying to avoid, just book a tour with reputable tour company, specialized in cruise passengers, that easy :)

  13. We are looking for a tour that will take us around the Roman Countryside. We have already spent one week in Rome and saw all the highlights. We are only spending one day post-cruise so we would like to see something else. Our hotel is near the airport so we're looking for a tour company that will pick us up at the port (Civi) and drop us off at the hotel after the tour.

    Any suggestions? :)

One day post-cruise, I would highly recommend you to go to Tivoli and Castel Gandolfo, where is Pope's summer house.
