  1. Which package is the "perk?

Most often, the classic package is the perk. However, we once received the premium package as a perk and, more recently, purchased it as part of the "Go Best" package which I found to be a good deal for us. Personally, I have never seen the standard package offered as a perk.

  2. I like the itinerary it's the only one that spends two days in Paris

I like the idea of the overnight in LeHavre (for Paris). Since travel time is 2 to 3 hours one way to Paris, we've never even tried to get there. You could book a hotel in the city for one night, take the train there and the next day take the train back.

  3. When I saw the subject line, my first reaction was to say "casino" but that's not your thing. Unfortunately, OBC cannot be applied towards a future cruise deposit. I'm not a big fan of the shops except I find that the cosmetics department stocks a few items I use regularly so I might spend mine there. My sister (who sails solo and gets double OBC) bought an outrageously expensive purse in the shops to use up hers. As you say, there are the specialty restaurants. Or, there are always shore excursions.

  4. Call Guest Services and have them contact the offending cruisers. They can say that other passengers have complained about the noise and that the children need to be supervised without identifying you. If the problem persists, call security while the kids are making the noise and have them come to the cabin. If the parents are in the cabin, security can remind them of the cruise contract and behavior requirements. If the parents are not in the cabin, well that's another issue and security can deal with that. Avoid confronting them yourself.

  5. I'm not sure if this is totally the way it should be' date=' but I just showed the card to the check in clerk and he let the bag go at no charge. I was ready to pay if need be, but didn't even have to ask.[/quote']

I personally don't have the Delta card but my sister has had the same experience. She paid for the flight with a different card but, upon showing her Delta credit card at airport check-in, both she and her traveling companion had their luggage fly free.

  6. For our upcoming 7 day Bermuda cruise, I thought that $315 per person for the Go Best package was a great deal. It includes gratuities, OBC, premium drink package and unlimited internet. Individually, I think the drink package and internet package are too expensive, even with any Captain's Club discounts. Since I'd have to pay gratuities anyway and I'm sure I'll use the OBC, I thought the Go Best was a good deal. I realize that they're not always offered but when they are, I think we'll go for it.

  7. With the exception of the five cabins across the aft (1133, 1141, 1140, 1138, 1130), the rest of the cabins on Summit's Deck 11 are pretty similar, it's just a matter of location. Your three cabins are close to the elevator but there's relatively little noise because the entire area is quiet. It's out of the way so there's not much pass-through traffic. I think I've read that 1100 and 1101 get some noise from the door to the sun deck outside.

All Aqua Class cabins have the special shower plus access to Blu and Persian Gardens.

  8. @2theship,

I was rounding down, ours is the August 26th sailing. Do you plan to write a review of your trip?

If I get my act together, I will write one but since I'll be driving home from NJ as you're boarding the ship, I doubt that it will be of much help to you.

Is the spa anything of consequence or more flash than substance? The Celebrity web site doesn't go into detail about what it entails. It seems to be more or less rooms with mood music or settings. It doesn't have anything a traditional spa would like massage or facials which require someone to administer. This spa seems to be self-governed which limits what you can do--- to yourself--- and still "relax".

There is a full service spa complete with many therapists and stylists. The only self-governed area is Persian Gardens which features a heated relaxation bench, sauna, steam and inhalation rooms. There is a fee to use Persian Gardens except for Aqua Class passengers.

I suggest that you take a look at http://www.celebritycruises.com. On the drop-down menu in the upper left corner, select "Ships" then "Summit". While Celebrity's website leaves a lot to be desired, you may be able to glean a lot of information about the ship itself and what's available.

  9. I would not go further aft than 1523 because I've heard that being under the Spa Cafe can be quite noisy. All of port cabins you've listed here are under Persian Gardens or the Acupuncture rooms so there should not be much noise to consider. The starboard cabins you've listed are under the treadmills so that could be bothersome in the early morning. Our preferred cabins on S-Class ships are 1540 to 1548. There's no noise and they're conveniently located.

  10. If "in a month" means you'll be on the August 19 sailing, my family group of eight will be there with you, also in AQ1. We've been to Bermuda before and sailed the Summit before but I can't help with any comparison to the Breakaway since we've never sailed NCL. However, my daughter worked the Capital Jazz Cruise to Bermuda on the Breakaway last year so I'm looking forward to what she has to say about comparing the two ships.

Everything you've read so far here is true about Blu. We love it and always book Aqua Class for it. The best part is that everything is prepared to order, not banquet style like in the MDR. If you like a particular entree but would prefer other sides, just ask and it's no problem. There are also some "always available" items that you may or may not be told about. If you're not, just ask.

You also will have access to Persian Gardens in the spa, a special relaxation area. People complain that it's not as nice as Persian Gardens on Celebrity's Solstice Class ships but I like it. Just go to the desk in the spa and show your card for access.

  11. Since 06 and 07 are both ocean view staterooms, yes, you should have been able to pay the lower price for your cabin. I've heard that if you book directly with Celebrity, you don't get the discount unless you ask for it. Our travel agent always gets it for us. I don't know if you'll have any success if you ask now but you could always try.

  12. As a ride share, SAS is too risky. How many ships are in port that day? How many stops will the bus make before or after yours? Even if they picked you up right on time, you could spend a long time cruising the port picking up other passengers.

Having said that, several times I have had success arranging a bus with a full load of people from our roll call - the bus didn't stop anywhere else. Last time we all had flights around noon but one couple's flight got moved up to 11:30. We were picked up about 9:00 and were at FLL by 9:30.

Your best bet is a taxi or Uber.

  13. We recently booked a cruise under the Sip and Sail. My sister, who drinks one diet coke per day is sailing with us in a cabin by herself. Since she doesn't drink and is paying double for the cabin, I checked with my travel agent. He got her a significantly reduced fare although her deposit is non-refundable. She was willing to gamble that we won't cancel so she saved a bundle.

  14. davekathy, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with SAS. I've always gotten good service from them but every time I've used them, I've arranged a private van that I filled with people from our roll call. Since we didn't have to worry about picking up other passengers, we saved a lot of delays.

It seems like every shared shuttle service I've heard about has its share of horror stories, no matter the location. I was trying to arrange some transportation to Bayonne Cape Liberty and every company's reviews seemed to include a mountain of disasters. I hope you have better luck in the future.

  15. Scroll down to the deck plans section of this page and click on deck 11 so you can see the layout.

The true aft cabins are 1133, 1141, 1140, 1138 and 1130, in that order going from port to starboard. The numbering seems strange because the first two are considered on the port side so odd numbers the rest are starboard so even numbers.

We've had true aft cabins on Infinity, Constellation and Summit. They all have extra deep cabins but the deepest is 1140 in the center. We've never had a soot problem. Some complain about the noise from the movies on deck 12 but we've never had an issue.

  16. We are most definitely Aqua Class fans. We choose our cabins carefully, usually booking early for the best cabin selection. I love Persian Gardens, even on M-Class ships, and the special showers are great. But, the primary reason for booking AQ is Blu. We like the fact that the entire staff gets to know you and your preferences. Generally, if we have a service issue (a rare occurrence), we let the Maitre D' know and it gets resolved. The breakfasts in Blu are wonderful - I'm not a fan of the buffet because it seems that in the buffet, I have to have half of my breakfast cold. I've been looking at Blu dinner menus lately and I'm considering making a break from some of my favorites just for the sake of variety. The only trouble is that after our cruise next month, we have two Princess cruises (better itineraries) and I don't know when my next AQ cruise will be!

  17. Tile will play little tune when you tap the icon on your cell phone. That might help you locate it in a crowd of suitcases, unless 300 other people are doing the same thing. When we have connecting flights, I like seeing that my suitcase made it to the connecting airport and that it made it to our final destination. As mentioned, some airlines offer this kind of information now so I don't use it quite as often.

  18. This is one of those hot button issues that will net you assorted opinions. We fall solidly in favor of Aqua Class cabins but you need to be careful about your cabin location. Our favorites are forward on the starboard side. Try to not be below the pool or the Spa Cafe.

The benefits of Aqua Class are access to Persian Gardens which is great if you're into that sort of thing. I am. More than anything, it's that your dining room is Blu. It's a smaller venue which touts "Clean Cuisine" (or at least it used to). We have found the food to be great and the service outstanding. It's much quieter than the MDR and the entire staff gets to know you. But, aft cabins are great so you will have to decide what is more important to you.

  19. Just curious, why would someone need to go to either of these places? I am sure there are reasons but after 10+ Celebrity cruises we've never visited either place. Many sailings in CC too.

I've never had occasion to visit the concierge but I have had some questions for the Captain's Club desk. Sometimes it's just for port information, other times it's had to do with other issues and Captain's Club has been able to cut through some red tape.

  20. We had this happen on a cruise that was immediately after a norovirus cleaning. The waiters had to bring everything and serve it to you: bread, butter, etc. I don't think that there were even salt and pepper shakers on the table. When my sister ordered tea and requested sweetener, the waiter practically slapped her had away when she reached for her own packet.
