  1. I received this and was wondering the same thing. The website reflects the 20% sale on the various purchase pages (except for spa because you have to call to book/get prices). And, unfortunately, specialty dining is not part of the 'sale' :(

The discounted premium rate is $52 - which is less than the standard classic rate (before sale) of $54 - so it would be great if you could purchase the premium at $52 and have the $54 credit applied for the classic package you already have on your receipt - thus costing you nothing (and dare I hope even getting you a $2 per day credit!?)

Alas - I doubt it would work that way. They will likely use the current classic sale rate when calculating the upgrade price - so you would pay $8 per day vs $11 - a savings of $3 per day.

Either way, I would call Celebrity to make the purchase/inquiry as I doubt the web interface is set up to handle this.

  2. SW won't post flights till 7 months out. We have friends who just booked for March '17 R/T Detroit/FLL for $300 pp.

SW flights for April 2017 have been posted for a while. We checked them about a month ago - and at that time they were decent, but the flight times were not optimal. We chose instead to use some frequent flier miles and fly American. We will have to pay to check our bags - but in the end we still save several hundred dollars and it will be good to use the miles. (Our [adult] children keep asking to use our frequent flier miles - so if we didn't use them chances are they would be gone before we decided to... interesting how people have no qualms about asking to use your miles when they would not likely ask you to pay for their airfare. Logically it is the same thing... you take my miles and then I won't have them and will have to purchase a flight I want. Sorry - just venting...)

  3. I really am quite shocked at some of the replies on here.

The poster posted this on the Pando board as well, and maybe because our rules are more stringent than Celebrities people thanked them.

I do not like children, but if a cruise line advertises that it has facilities to cater for children, would you not assume that they would be fit for purpose.

To actually find out that not really fit for purpose until onboard does not help.

Pando's childrens clubs have a good reputation. Those with families may stick with Pando.

From what I have read children adore the kids clubs on Pando ships. It is not used as somewhere to dump your children. They actually have enough staff to entertain the children and make them want to go back.

If Celebrity just want adults to be on their ships surely the age demographic heads northwards.

It seems appropriate to point out that it is the OP's opinion that the kids club was not 'fit' and that judgment was made based on 1) experience during the sign-up process and 2) the staff to child ration vs. her expectations. I don't believe her children ever actually set foot into the kids clubs while they were actually open for that purpose.

However, I have read through most of the posts here and see many folks who have actually had children use the childcare facilities on Celebrity - some multiple times - and all of them were well-satisfied and had not had any problems that were concerning to them...

So to point out that the P&O crowd was more receptive to her post is rather ludicrous. If they had no experience regarding Celebrity child care onboard, what else were they to say besides thank you for the information?!

  4. Can anyone tell me, how bad is the vibration in these aft cabins? I usually tend to go for a cabin nearer the bow although of course we do get woken by the anchor being lowered when we have sailed in locations where we have tendered ashore. We have the opportunity to book one of these cabins for an upcoming cruise and although they look amazing, I'm just wondering if the vibration is bad?

We were in 8185 last March and only noticed vibrations when arriving into or departing from port. Not bad at all really.

  5. Here are the basic ones - not sure if any of them will make it worth giving up your hump balcony:

    1) Extra captains club points

    2) priority boarding (which really means separate line - not always a guarantee of faster boarding)

    3) special concierge lunch in MDR on embarkation day

    4) afternoon canapés and welcome aboard sparkling wine

    5) I've also heard there's a new concierge desk to assist concierge class passengers - though I've not sailed since this started

    6) a tote bag and room key holder

Gratuities on concierge are also higher - though if you have those as a perk it won't matter.

  6. Is your wife reluctant to cruise in the RS on Silhouette because she would have to give up the Panama Cruise with the family? Are you able to do both? I'm partial to Celebrity but I would love to go on the Panama Cruise with Princess too.

I think that LiveToCruise99 may have found the missing piece... while the RS on the Silhouette is amazing and you are likely to thoroughly enjoy the Celebrity S Class experience - it is another T/A - which it sounds like your wife is tired of... and the Panama Canal cruise includes her sister. If you really want to change her mind, you might have to get her sister on board first (pun-intended) - and perhaps consider another itinerary...

  7. Very interesting. I look forward so seeing more on this venture.

The article says they are planning to sail to Cuba and that their cruises will be bold and glamorous - so I am doubting that family cruising is their target audience, but only time will tell.

Also, I find it interesting that they describe a ship with a capacity of 2800 as small. I realize that's less than the mega-ships, but really - small is is not the word I'd used to describe a ship that can hold 2800 passengers.

  8. Hi Marguerite!

Looks like we will miss you and Hutch by 10 days in 2017, we are back on the Equinox on the 6th.

We did the Grand Tour with him last yr when ya'll had to cancel. :(

History of ST Kitts Tour. Dana an I bought matching Caribelle Batik outfits at Romney Manor!

    EW

EW - Don't you two look cute! :D

I'd love to switch and join you guys on the 11/6 sailing in 2017, but that option requires 3 more days off work - which is a show stopper for the two of us at this point. One day we'll catch up with you on a cruise...

We are doing a 14 day in April - and so are using most of our vacation time for that cruise. And that's the one with the stop in St.Kitts. We have some pretty intensive excursions for Aruba and Curacao - so thinking the Capital tour plus beach break might make for a nice relaxing day and the price point is very reasonable. ($25 per person)

  9. I can't seem to get the filter option to work but was able to sort by column E (deck) and it looks like it starts at 6.

Not sure what I did, but got the filter option to work. Looks like there are some records with blank deck, as well as some where the name was entered instead of the number. Also - found a couple of '3' deck entries. (Not sure why these did not show at the top of my sort earlier.)

Cruzzinma, any chance you feel like cleaning up the non-numeric or blank entries? (Deck should be able to be determined using the cabin number.) I am happy to do this if you prefer not to - just let me know.

  10. Just caught the reference in bold below... Are you saying that you can order room service while seated pool-side? Or am I misinterpreting this?!

Eclipse is a great ship. I sailed on her several times and will be on again in January. Not knowing what you like to do, I suggest reading the daily sheets. After settling in, walk the ship to find places that you would enjoy. Lots of activities are available. Tuscan Grill has superb steaks. The entertainment at night is good. The production shows are excellent. Go early for good seats. The pool areas get crowded. Inside pool is heated and for adults only. If you like being outside there are several good areas that are less crowded. Deck 14 and 15 forward are usually quiet. Room service is good and they deliver to any place on the ship. The coffee at AlBacio is good and worth the extra cost. The pastry there is free. Love the oatmeal cookies. Menus in the MDR change nightly. With the exception of the Tops Chef menu, the choices are good. I dislike the Top Chefs menu. I have tried many items on that menu. Sadly, I now skip dinner in the MDR that night. Good night to eat at the Buffet Grill or a specialty venue. On the Eclipse there is something for everyone. Have fun and enjoy your cruise.
  11. Wow, your last cruise with Celebrity over a third of a bottle of opened wine? In the long run I would think Celebrity will probably benefit from the exit. :D

Based on their comments, I think the OP just sees this as the straw that broke the camels back as they have had some other issues with Celebrity but not with other lines that they have sailed. Certainly the OPs prerogative to decide to sail or not sail with any cruise line based on whatever considerations are important to them.

Not sure of their motivation for posting - Looking for empathy? Just felt the need to vent? Or perhaps wanted to get talked out of their decision? If the first or the last - it certainly seems to have backfired on them :(

  12. ...

Marguerite you and Hutch should look at switching to Nov 6th 2017 and sail with us since you missed last yr! ;)

    EW

    Hello EW!

When I saw that you all are sailing again in 2017 I definitely considered it - but really need the extra days that the Thanksgiving Holiday are giving us to avoid needing to use too much vacation time. We've got family obligations in Illinois and Florida that are using up quite a bit of our vacation time and so I have to economize a bit. Are you sure we can't convince you all to 'jump ship' and join us instead? ;) :D

  13. Hi Isabella,

I will consider Aqua class option next time, if I'll choose X again. Thanks for the advice, I had read good reviews about AQ indeed.

Thanks so much for your insights. Reading through your review below - it seems like you compared RC Oasis to your Celebrity experience - expecting Celebrity to exceed it somehow strictly based on the term 'Modern Luxury". As others have noted, RC has been stepping up their game a bit, and so you will probably not see as many differences as you might have several years ago.

Since cabin was one thing you expected to be more luxurious - I wanted to point out that the AQ cabins are not really much different than any other veranda cabin on an X ship. They do have slight differences in the bathrooms and the spa access included - but since you really liked the MDR - I am not sure that having Blu as a restaurant option is going be the thing that gives you the modern luxury you are looking for.

  14. Just my 2-cents, but your "reputable TA" should have told you that you could put in a hold reservation for 24 hours just to be sure that you had your price protected. Or does that option not apply for UK? (I have been flamed before for not paying attention to the location of the poster since not all rules are the same outside of the US. :) )

  15. You just need to start a campaign to get Celebrity to have proper olives for a martini - especially at the martini bar!

You'd think when folks are bringing their own they'd get the hint!

There are all sorts of variations on types of stuffed olives... and if you like something special then bringing your own does solve the problem. But a queen olive in a martini is not really special - it's pretty much standard in pretty much every bar where I have ever ordered a dirty martini. A manzanilla olive is a salad olive and really pretty pathetic from a cruise line which has the label modern luxury.

In the scheme of things, it alone would not get me to stop sailing Celebrity - probably falls into the category of chocolates at turn-down. But Celebrity seems to have gotten the message that sometimes its the small things that make the difference and brought back the chocolates. Perhaps better olives will be the next battle cry :D:eek:

  16. Totally agree... was very disappointed in what they provide for olives in a dirty martini at the Martini Bar on the Connie this past March. Not sure - but would not expect anything better at the other drink venues onboard since the destination for martinis would be the Martini Bar.

I know some of the S-Class ships now have the World Class bar... perhaps they have better options there?

  17. cruisestitch: Saving "Celebrity Cruises" the trouble of cutting and pasting from the Celebrity website: Good one! ROFLMAO!!!!

What's to say you can't move two wine bottles to your large suitcase that goes through the porter? Put two in a carry on and two in the porter handled suitcase at the port.

When we embarked in Charleston for the Mercury a few years ago, we put two in each carry on. We were not stopped.

I expect the situation will be dependent upon how diligent the port security personnel are.

It really is all about the count per bag. We had 2 cabins - one for DH and me and one for our adult sons - but I had all 4 bottles of wine in one carry-on bag. Despite showing the paperwork for both cabins and having my son right behind me in line, they pulled us over and called the security lead to inspect. Well, the count of bottles got sorted out, but they found the plastic covering on the corks twisted easily and said that could be a sign that the bottles had been opened and refilled. (Sounds crazy to me - but I guess folks do go to great lengths to get their liquor on board!) I was afraid they were going to confiscate those 2 bottles - but she let me pass with a warning to check this better before my next cruise. Really it never would have been noticed if I hadn't been stopped for having the 4 wine bottles in one bag. Note to self - never do that again!

  18. I'm fine with current port arrival times, except for getting a decent, relaxed, breakfast. :( If Celebrity is going to dock at 7 AM then the full buffet should be available at 5 AM; not just drink service or continental. As it is now, we just have time to grab and go to be at the front of the line leaving the ship.

That's when I order room service ... i think you can ask for delivery as early as 6.
