  1. There isn't any formal nights on Getaway? I didn't know this. So we won't have to worry about taking suits or booking tux?

Nope! No official formal nights. I didn't see anyone in suits or tuxes, but most people do get a little dressed up to go to dinner, especially at the for-fee restaurants. Men usually go for button-down shirts with khakis (or even blazers, no ties), and women generally opt for casual dresses or nice pants and a top with nice shoes. Do whatever makes you feel most at home. That's Norwegian's whole philosophy -- freestyle! :)

  2. We've booked cabin #14750 on Getaway in June. I've been trying to find some pictures of the angled balcony. Any of the angled balcony rooms pics will do. Thanks for the help.

    Is this one of them:

? It's cabin 16100 - Haven Owner's Suite. Can't tell if it's just the angle I took it from or if it's actually angled. (I saw so many cabins that day that I can't remember what was what!)
  3. Yes iPhone 5. But it also happened on my son's Samsung Galaxy S3. When we got home I checked all data usage for the week on our cell provider account and there was no data usage at all. it is on the NCL side for sure that permits the leakage. We too also had the Facebook notifications, etc.

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

That's so strange! Glad you weren't charged for it. Seems like some folks might have found a loophole that will let them get texts and Facebook alerts for free with the app! :)

  4. If you have the chance, will you ask if there has been extra sound proofing for the spa mini suites since they are the deck below the pool area? I am hoping for a quiet time and am a bit concerned about the pool & bar above on deck 15. We are in 14168. Thank you so much,

    Hi there,

I've asked about this, and I was told they'll get back to me. Yours is the only question I'm still waiting on an answer for. I apologize for the wait, but I'll report back the second I get a yes or no. Thanks for being so patient!

  5. Need to know exact type of coffee maker I can get in my room. Will have a balcony room. Yes, I know there is room service but I would prefer to make my own first cup of the day.

My son tells me there are no refrigerators in regular cruise rooms. Is this true of newer ships like Getaway. If no refrigerator, how does one keep milk/half and half fresh for coffee? How about keeping bottled water cold?

WiFi in rooms? Would love to bring my tablet to check my local news and emails while in room. Will there be a weeklong WiFi package that can be purchased? If so, what is price?

Coffeemakers are only found in balcony cabins and higher (although you can request one from your cabin steward if you're in anything lower than a balcony). In balconies and mini-suites, the coffeemakers are Hamilton Beach Commercial brand (see first two links), and they make one cup at a time using packets. Suites have Lavazza Blue machines that can make espresso (see second two links).

All cabins have refrigerators (fifth link). However, you'll have to ask your steward to unlock yours and remove its contents so you can store milk, etc.

Wi-Fi is available shipwide, including cabins. (See last two photos for prices and instructions.)

I apologize for all the links. I was having issues uploading to the boards, so I dumped the photos in an album until I can figure out what's up. If you have problems viewing them, please let me know. (You'll have to be logged in to Facebook to see them, I think. If you don't have Facebook, let me know, and I'll figure something else out.)

  6. I would love dailies for the 10-12yr old Splash Academy - if they have some could you post some photos please??? :)

    Leanne

If you can get any Dailies with activity schedules and post them, it would be most appreciated!!

    Hi there,

I apologize for this in advance, but I'm having problems uploading photos directly to the boards, so ... I've posted them here, on one of Cruise Critic's pages: https://www.facebook.com/friendsofcruisecritic/media_set?set=a.10101476950835536.1025934674&type=3.

There are literally 1,000 photos in the album, so you'll have to wait a minute for them to load, but shots of the kids' activities and pics of the Freestyle Dailies are at the very bottom. (You'll probably have to zoom in a little.)

Please let me know if you have any trouble viewing or reading them, and I'll try to figure something else out.

  7. You guys are all great!! Thanks for the information. And yes, I'm an American--a Philly-guy !

Ah! Not too far from Philly myself -- about 45 minutes.

I also just remembered: There are really nifty touch-screen TVs throughout the ship that will let you make reservations for everything once you're onboard. It's true you can do it in your cabin on the TV, too, but seriously, who doesn't love a touch-screen? It sure beats standing in line at the front desk, too.

  8. We've been on several cruises, but this is the first time with NCL Getaway (in May 2014). Traveling with 6 adults. I would appreciate any tips that you can give me regarding NCL, but I have a specific question about reservations for dining, shows, etc.

For a party that size, would we need to make some kind of reservation to eat in any of the MDRs and should we make them in advance or just wait until we board the ship? I know that reservations are recommended for the specialty restaurants. Shows-- same question regarding reservations.

Thanks for all of your help. Also, any menus from the Getaway would be appreciated!!

    Hi there,

I just got back from a two-nighter on Getaway, followed by a two-nighter on sister ship Breakaway. It could have just been because they were short sailings, but it was difficult to get reservations at some of the for-fee restaurants. I'd definitely recommend booking ahead of time online. If you do that and you want your entire party of six to eat together, I'd suggest having just one person make a booking for six, rather than each of you doing it individually or in groups of two or whatever. That will guarantee you'll eat at the same table. It will also ask you to pay in advance with a credit card, so keep that in mind since whoever makes the reservation will have to front a chunk of money.

Bookings for the main dining rooms and shows in the Getaway Theater are a bit more flexible and don't book up as quickly.

I've posted menu photos here: https://www.facebook.com/friendsofcruisecritic/media_set?set=a.10201926160288727.1073741827.1025934674&type=3.

Additionally, you can find more detailed photos of just about everything on the ship here: https://www.facebook.com/friendsofcruisecritic/media_set?set=a.10101476950835536.1025934674&type=3.

Have a great time on your sailing! The ship is gorgeous, and there's lots to do, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. :)

  9. We are looking at booking our first aft facing balcony room. The website indicates the square footage is between 250-516 sq ft and was wondering, since the aft is tiered does the balcony get bigger on the lower decks or does the room get a little bigger or both?

    Thanks!

    G

The balconies get larger the lower you go. :)

  10. Thanks for taking our questions and hopefully getting some answers. Could you ask if they are planning any theme parties (such as white or glow), pub crawls, martini tastings, etc. Also, we will be sailing during St. Patrick's Day. Will there be anything planned for us Irish or the want to be Irish for a day passengers? Thanks again!

    Hello again,

To be more specific, I'm told there will be the following themes on Getaway sailings:

    Norwegians Night Out

    Latin Night

    70's Party

    80's Party (with fireworks)

    Glow

    Dancing With the Stars

For St. Patrick's Day, I'm told there are generally some pool deck games and drink specials, but I still haven't heard anything official about the party I mentioned earlier. If I hear anything else, I'll update you.

  11. Would love to get whatever details anyone has on the iConcierge app, don't know anything about this or what it does.

Also, any details on Vibe would be appreciated. How much? Can we reserve ahead of time? Etc.

    Thanks!

Just to follow up, I've verified that Vibe must be booked once you're onboard. No pre-booking is available. (I'd advise doing it shortly after you get on the ship since there are limited spots.)

  12. Did you happen to get an entertainment schedule for The Grammy Experience?

I wish CC had a "like" button LOL. I was wondering the same thing.

    Hi there,

Thanks for being so patient, SissasMomE. Just heard back from Norwegian, and there's no official schedule yet. I'm told it'll be released soon, so I'll update you as soon as I hear anything.

  13. any word about the schedule/price for the cake/cupcake decorating classes?

There will be three different classes offered on each cruise, one during each sea day. Prices are below and include a Carlo's apron that you get to keep.

Family Cupcake Class (first sea day) - $39 per person

Beach Cake (second sea day) - $69 per person

Dots and Bows Advanced Class (third sea day) - $69 per person

  14. On iConcierge, we found it to be a mixed bag on Breakaway. When it worked it was helpful, since you could do a lot with it, such as select a tender while you are out and about, rather than needing to be at the box office, calling or doing so from your suite. But the key is when it worked. It does not stay connected to the ship wifi system (I was using an IPhone 5). One problem is that if you have multiple rooms for your traveling party, you can only reserve show seats for the people in the people in your cabin. Someone in the other cabin would have to do it as well. I think the same problem may extend to the system on the cabin tv system.

An interesting thing we found, and I think this is regardless of whether we had subscribed to iConcierge, is that my emails leaked through even when I was in airplane mode and just allowing wifi. I was able to get the header/subject for all emails, though could not access the email. I knew what was going on at home, but at the same time did not.

It's interesting you're saying that. I hopped on Breakaway with some coworkers for a two-nighter after I returned from Getaway, and another woman from the office had the same issue. Do you have an iPhone? If so, it might be an Apple issue. She was getting iMessages, Facebook alerts, etc., all while in airplane mode. The Internet cafe manager told her it was normal, but she was worried about getting hit with roaming fees, so she ended up just shutting her phone off.

  15. Thanks for the info Ashley! Much appreciated.

Ashley ~ I just wanted to personally thank you for taking time to answer my question and the questions of others. We are hungry for information, and you are busy gathering it, and I really appreciate it. Thank you.

    No problem at all!

For anyone else still waiting on an answer, sit tight. I've got nearly 1,000 photos that I'm trying to sort through and upload so I can address things like menus, appliances, cabin photos, Freestyle Dailies, kids club activities, etc.

I've also had to contact Norwegian PR for a few answers, and they're super busy at the moment preparing for the christening later this week. We'll have three more CC staffers onboard on Friday for the christening, so I'll see if they can round up the rest of the answers for us if I haven't heard back from Norwegian by then.

  16. I am looking forward to reviews of Illusionarium and the menu. The Cirque shows never interested me on the Epic or Breakaway.

    Hey there,

The Illusionarium show itself was fantastic. I was disappointed to learn, however, that the menu is fixed -- surf 'n' turf. The steak was decent, but I didn't try the deep-fried shrimp that came with it, as I'm not a seafood eater. I'd say the show alone is worth the cost, and I almost think it would be better without the dinner. The staff kept interrupting while I was watching to fill my water, ask if I was finished eating, etc. It's not their fault, of course, since that's what they're supposed to do, but I found it a little irritating. Menu photos coming. Stay tuned.

  17. I just noticed a Getaway app for apple and android devices. It lists the Miami events and has lots of other features.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crowdtorch.norwegiangetaway

    Hey Twizzlers,

That app is specifically for folks who sailed on the Jan. 27-29 CTN out of NYC and those who will be onboard for the christening Feb. 7-8. It just lists the scheduled press events and such. It does have really handy deck plans and lists of all the venues, though.

  18. Saw pics of Vibe with some umbrellas. Are they on a first come basis? Or are they available to be rented? If so what is the weekly price for umbrella? Thanks!

Would love to get whatever details anyone has on the iConcierge app, don't know anything about this or what it does.

Also, any details on Vibe would be appreciated. How much? Can we reserve ahead of time? Etc.

    Thanks!

Vibe, an adults-only sun deck, is $20 per person, per day, or $79 per person for a week. That includes first-come, first-served use of umbrellas but does not include cabana access. A daily cabana rental is $99 ($79 on port days) or $299 for a week for up to two people. As far as I know, you have to reserve spots (limited to 60 people) for Vibe once you're onboard, but I've got an email out to my Norwegian PR contact to verify that you're unable to pre-book them.

Richard, I already posted about the iConcierge app, but I've got a little more info for you. After returning from Getaway, I had a day to repack my stuff, and then I left for another two-night cruise to nowhere on sister ship Breakaway. I downloaded the app for that trip and paid the $7.95 fee. I'd rate it a 2 or 3 out of 5. Half of the time I couldn't get it to work because the Wi-Fi was so poor. I suppose it served its purpose, but it's not at all worth the cost if the other members of your party don't download and activate it.

Yes! I'm told by guest services onboard that there will be theme parties, including Glow and 80's. Pub crawls will be offered for $25 (five bars included), and wine tastings will be offered for $15. Check your Freestyle Daily for days and times. As for St. Patrick's Day, there's been talk of a party, but I'm awaiting details. I'll get back to you as soon as I find out for sure.
