What I am trying to discover, is if push came to shove, if only one seat remains.. who gets it? A 4/5 star mariner or a new guest with CO access?

When I discover that answer everything else will become clear.

probably the one star with club orange. the higher the number, seems to mean not much in a lot of cases.

Interesting - we are 5 Star and HAL just offered us the Club Orange for $25 pp per day on the Rotterdam.  Needless to say we declined as we already get 75% of these perks with 5 Star.

Interesting, as with everything else Holland America, no rhyme or reason. And you as a lucky 5 star mariner gets a higher rate then me?????

  3. You are on our cruise! As far as an up sell, we have a wonderful aft cabin on the Rotterdam deck so a suite might be an upgrade, but I would have to give up my aft cabin. So to us, not such a great deal that I could figure out, but wanted some other opinions. Haven’t been on a dam ship for 3 years and am excited. But club orange is something new that seems to get a lot of mixed reviews.

That's what I said. The Premium package can be purchased in advance, and yes, it does cost less that way.
But none of the other packages can be purchased in advance, and they cost less than the Premium package. If you don't need the Premium package, then it costs less to wait and purchase what you do need on board.

Do you need to buy a package for each guest, if you both may need to be on the internet at the same time or will one package cover us both?

  5. If you search for the various 21 day cruises on the Veendam for November and December -some very interesting 7 day packages are added on to the 14 day Cuba route. Is this what you were looking for? These go to Cuba and associated other ports and then come back to FLL and take another 7 day route that does not include Cuba. That I assume would be the "collector cruise" aspect - a combo of two separate cruise on the same ship discounted a bit as a single package.

I am confused, the Veendam doesn’t do Panama..:o:confused: so how can I get a combined Cuba and Panama trip with a turnaround day in FLL For another cruise but evidently with a different ship, is that what you are saying ? I am so confused,,,,,,,

  6. I was going through my Mariner Magazine the other day as well as two sale pamphlets. Within one of these I do remember seeing a Panama Canal & Cuba Collector combined cruise, when I Google it I get everyones BUT Holland America's. Does anyone have any idea where I can find this cruise???? thanks in advance

  7. Thanks so much for this picture. We will be on the May 2 cruise which is a sold-out, chartered Dave Koz Jazz cruise. There are people with deck 10 cabins who are understandably nervous. Hopefully they can finish the 'upgrades' on 10 and 11 before we board.

I am enjoying your blog. We will be stopping in Kotor and Dubrovnik so I hope you can post those before you arrive in Venice.

Pardon my stupidity. Is the aft of the ship to the right or the left in this pic? I will be in 10001 and was wondering which is which?

  8. Good point, but there is at least one exception.

We were on the Veendam last Fall who was leaving the summer New England/Canada route and heading to San Diego via Panama in the Fall after her extensive Fall Colors tour, so might want to check which ship is doing that route if you want to do the east to west route Panama route in the Fall.

The water was so warm at HMC that Fall month we did not want to get out.

Perfect! Thanks for the heads up, I will have my PCC watch that one for me. Really like the Vista ships for those high up VQ cabins. Bet the view is pretty awesome up there.
