  1. Hi 3 Pelicans

OP here, CravingACruise 😀 Happy to hear that you got it sorted out for your upcoming cruise on the Triumph.

I gave up trying to do a paid upgrade, as it was too much of a hassle and the $ cost difference was making no sense!!! So we just left things alone.

I'm looking forward to our cruise now, as it is only 5 days away. WooHoo!

I had two balcony cabins on Empress level booked on the Triumph for August, one at a casino rate and one at early saver. I noticed on Friday that AFT Extended cabins had opened up on the same floor that were $20 less than the early saver rate I paid and $90 more than the casino rate I paid. I did not have any OBC with the casino rate so called my TA to switch figuring it would be $70 total. It was a mess that took all day to fix. Carnival moved the rooms and there was a balance of $279 which made no sense. When they moved the rooms back to the original categories we suddenly had $70 of OBC because the rates dropped on the Early Saver room. Finally my TA conferenced me in with Carnival and between the three of us we were able to figure it out. I got to keep the $70 OBC and paid $70 for the upgrade. Even though it took forever...well worth it!!!! Yes having a TA complicated it but she worked really hard yesterday to make this work. :)
  2. It is based on what you originally paid. So if you paid $1500 for an inside and the current rate of an outside is $1800 you would have to pay $300 to upgrade.

Can't answer definitively on keeping the OBC.

    Bill

Thank you, Bill, for the quick reply. Thought I would ask here first before I phone Carnival. ....think we may just pay for the upgrade but really don't want to lose the OBC.

  3. [/b]What is Carnival Policy for paid upgrades and determining cost? How do they determine the cost to charge on an upgrade?

Sailed on other cruise lines but our upcoming cruise is first time on Carnival. What is the policy regarding paid upgrades? For example, we have fully paid for our inside cabin. However, the cost has increased since then. But the cost of an outside cabin has decreased.

The difference in total cost is minimal and we are considering paying for an upgrade. Will Carnival just charge us the current difference or is the amount we have to pay based on our original amount that we paid?

For example, let's say cabin originally cost $1500. Now the cost has increased to $1700. But an outside category is currently priced at $1800. If we are willing to pay for the upgrade, will we be charged ($1800-$1500)=$300 or ($1800-$1700) = $100 ????

Also, if we do upgrade, will we be able to keep existing OBC or will we have to forfeit it?

Thanks in advance for help and advice.

  4. And you can also pick your own restaurant (Coconut shrimp at Lety's is fantastic. 130 pesos last Feb).

I think the water taxi is $3 round trip. 10 minute walk down the beach and your there.

We Love Stone Island! .....Sadly, we mIssed it on our last cruise, :( as we were cruising with some first timers that really wanted to see the Cathedral and market shopping area.

But even worse than missing Stone Island, was missing all the delicious food at Lety's !!!! LOVE that place.....:D

  5. On most Princess ships, the coffee card includes no-charge hot chocolate.

On the Pacific and the Ocean, that has not been included.

That is wonderful news! And exactly what I wanted to hear :)

    Thank you!

  6. Just off the royal. Everyone can have different packages. My daughter didnt drink but bought the coffee card. Worked out great.

Do you know if she could get the complimentary Hot Chocolate (along with brewed coffee & tea) using the coffee card? Or is hot chocalate only included with the Unlimited Soda & More package?

    Thank you!

  7. Yippee!!! Got my new (Renewal) passport today! :D

Monday 10/27/14 - Mailed from CA to PA via Priority Mail-2day (actually took 4 days)

Friday 10/31/14 - Text msg received stating it was 'Delivered' at 11:30 a.m.

No other communication received all week.

Saturday 11/08/14 - Received new passport via Priority Mail Express (paid extra $ to ship it overnight).

I'm still waiting for my old passport to be returned and also my new passport card. (Although, they did say to expect 3 separate mailings.)

I did NOT pay the extra $60 fee to expedite the passport. Although, I did consider doing so, because at the time I mailed off everything the website stated that it could take 4-6 weeks :eek:

Needless to say, I am very happy with the quick turn-around time!!! :)

  8. This is wonderful news!! So glad that Cabo is getting back on its feet. We will be there in just about a month.

I thought it was too early for whales, but the recent sightings you mentioned is exciting! Now we will have to reevaluate our plans :)

I live in Cabo part time so I get my info direct from the locals.

Tobascos is being rebuilt. They hope to be re-opened by Nov 15.

Medano Beach Club is now called Moxitos, same owner, new name. It is open for business.

The Sand Bar is also open.

All three of these are great choices for families as they are on the mellow side. Almost all bars and restaurants in town are open. The rebuilding process went much quicker than many thought. Costco was originally scheduled to reopen Dec 15, it's reopening today. I'm sure you will see damage, but not devastation. The palm trees look more like telephone poles than trees.:p

Please come and enjoy, and November is one of the best weather months. I hear there have been whale sightings already.

  9. Does anybody have experience with connecting rooms which they can share with me? Will we be able to hear our neighbors more easily than in non-connecting rooms? Is the furniture arranged differently (which might make the room feel even smaller)?

    Thanks!

I agree. You won't hear a thing from your neighbors.

We had connecting balcony cabins on the Mariner with our teen sons, and at one point we had to actually open the connecting door to check if they were in the room!!! They didn't hear us knocking because they were sprawled out on their beds engrossed in some TV movie. Believe me, the volume was LOUD!!!! ....And we didn't hear a thing. ........ Which meant they couldn't hear us either! ;) LoL

As far as furniture placement, The connecting door was at the foot of our queen bed and opened into their cabin between the two twin beds. Each cabin had a full size sofa near the bathroom and the beds were closer to the balcony door. I realize you are in an inside cabin, so obviously it will be a bit different for you.

I think you will be fine. Enjoy your cruise and all the money you saved!!......who knows, maybe the upgrade fairy will pay you a visit :)

  10. Check out BeaconHillPark.ca this is a fun place to walk around. It's Just minutes from the downtown harbor area, behind BC museum. There is a children's petting zoo, playground, ponds, ducks etc that I think any 2yr old would love. :) check out the totem poles too behind the museum at thunderbird park?

Beacon Hill Park has gorgeous landscaped gardens in a beautiful peaceful setting. Don't miss this jewel! :D another fun activity is to take a horse-drawn carriage ride or Tally-Ho. Both highly recommended.

And like someone else previously mentioned, in the summertime it won't be dark until around 10pm.

    Hope this info helps :)

Looking at an Alaska cruise in June. Itinerary says Victoria 7pm to midnight. Wouldn't most things be closed the majority of the time there?

I was wanting to see some of the sights, butterfly garden with my then 2 year old, and buchart gardens, they close at 10. Wish more time could be spent there during the day. Obviously I know there is nightlife in the city, my two year old won't really be able to appreciate that we won't either as we will be going where she goes.

  11. My first cruise was in 1964 on a Transatlantic from Liverpool, England to Quebec, Canada on the Cunard R.M.S. Carinthia. Although, too young to remember it, I would say that I have been hooked ever since :)

Spent our Honeymoon on the NCL M/s Seaward......and even though we had a tiny, tiny, tiny inside cabin with twin beds that didn't move!!!..........we made the most of it....;) . LOL :p

Counting down 39 days now until our next cruise!!
