  1. I've been to both. I would not go to Junkanoo again. When I went there earlier this year, I didn't have a choice because it was a New Year's cruise so BCH was sold out. I am a solo woman traveler and I was harassed on the beach by local men. It was super annoying. Then there were a few people selling things. On my very first cruise I went to BCH and it was nice--small but nice. The food was excellent too. I have a cruise coming up and just made a reservation to lock it in.

  2. My 8-night Bahamas cruise is $583.+ tax and no flying either. So they are giving us soloists some good deals.

Great deal! The same cruise that I'll be on in January is only $419 + tax if I sail in December. I wish I had a more flexible schedule but it is what it is. I'm still thrilled about the price I got.

I wish I could get a deal on a Bermuda cruise as a solo so that will have to wait until I feel like paying that higher price. Oh well, I enjoy the Bahamas so it'll be my 3rd cruise there!

  3. Carnival has lifted the single supplement on many cruises. Just checked a 7 day out of San Juan on the valor 1/5/13 for $597 inside cabin, including tax and gratuities.

I never thought I would sail Carnival again but I just got a 7 day Bahamas for $718 + tax. And I don't have to fly to the port which is nice. My very first cruise was with Carnival but I do enjoy the experience on RCCL. Oh well, as a solo traveler, I have to go where the deals are :D

  4. Unfortunately, the inside rooms did not have a fridge.

    Sorry.

Also do not try to bring any alcohol on board via your suitcase.

I only had a diet coke and an ice tea- well those two suitcases did not make it to my room.

True... If you are going to be bringing you 2 bottles of wine on board, be sure to put them in your carry-on and tell security that you have them in their so as to not slow down the line.

Thanks for the replies. Ill just keep these babies at home. I can celebrate NYs on dry land when I return. I heard there will be free-flowing champagne on NYE anyway. :D

  5. I was there 2 weeks ago.

They have lounge chairs (not the one in the picture - I didn't see anyone sitting in those kind while I was there) and umbrellas for rental.

I had 2 loungers and 1 umbrella, which was $30.00. For an additonal $10.00, you could also get 2 cocktails and 4 shots, but the drinks aren't worth it because they were weak as hell and tasted like straight sugar.

    OK, good to know. Thanks!

  6. Just thought I'd share: I found a dress on HSN and have ordered it in 3 colors now (black, red and purple). It's the Tiana B Perfect Pick Peasant dress. Although it looks shapeless and boring, it looks GREAT on, especially if you're curvy. It falls very well to hide things that need hiding, if you know what I mean. It can be dressed up or dressed down. I even wore the black one to church last Sunday. It covers my arms and falls at the knee. I'm wearing the red one to a concert on Saturday. I'm thinking these will be my dinner/show/club dresses on my upcoming cruise. It's on clearance for $19.90.

Are these the kind of chairs they have for renting or truly beach chairs?

Do they have umbrellas as well? How much for each?

  8. OK, I got the navy sequin dress from Avenue but it makes me look very thick in the middle. I don't know why Avenue always insists on adding an elastic waistband to their dresses! So not flattering. It's also itchy (which is probably par for the course with sequins).

I went to my local Avenue and tried on the gold dress that I almost ordered last week. It looks better than in the photo. I would still pair it with silver shoes for NYE (gold/silver combo) but I just wonder where I could wear it again. The material is cheapish but the color/sparkle make up for it I guess.

I also ordered the black dress. *sigh* I know it's another boring black dress, but I'm still looking for that perfect black dress that's comfy, dressy enough to go anywhere (with just different accessories). I was able to get both online at Avenue for under $65 with S&H and tax. *crossing fingers*

  9. OK, I want this dress from Avenue: http://www.avenue.com/clothing/Sequined-Blouson-Cold-Shoulder-Dress.aspx?PfId=349863&DeptId=22430&ProductTypeId=1

This would be PERFECT for my NYE cruise!!! It has sleeves, which are a must for me. But it's $98 and I will probably never wear it again :( I guess I'll wait for a sale or try to find something else.

Good things come to those who wait. :D Got this deeply discounted (off course the S&H and tax added $10 back but I'm satisfied with the price). Thinking this could also do double duty for a Gatsby-theme party that I'm going to in January. Score!

  10. Indiana 71, thanks for the tips! I have an excel spreadsheet that I primarily use for Paris because you want to look good in Paris. I will try your method for my upcoming cruise in 59 days! Actually, I think this is a great method for just general organization not just for cruising.

  11. 089095_6_167x167.jpgI found these at Payless by googling silver sandals. Not sure if these would work for you, but they usually have good prices. Most of the department stores have sandals on clearance right now, too. Good luck!

I have these! Bought 'em to wear to a gala but I didn't end up going. The heel height is great. Maybe I'll wear 'em on my next cruise!

  12. The wind has lost some of the intensity today, but rain continues...since SuperStorm Sandy didn't do damage or cause a power outage - and it was a good day to wear comfy warm clothes (very un-CCF!), I organized and packed jewelry for The Next Cruise.

Each activity is marked on a Post-It on a little baggie...except for the one stretchy bracelet that gets funky if it's folded - that's what the cut-down tube is holding.

As each item went in the baggie, I checked it off on the spreadsheet (with my Royal Caribbean pen pictured).

The baggies were then transferred to the printed (free with cosmetic purchase) zippered case.

Next chore will be gathering all the cosmetics, toiletries, most of which are kept in the drawer in the next photo.

The "Days of the Week" pill container is what I use when going on a shorter cruise, to hold earrings, small jewelry. It won't be going this time. The clock (at the bottom of the pix) is a Must Have item for us. With the lighted numbers, we always know the time.

OK, teach me your ways fabulous one! :D

  13. I keep my natural (4a) hair flat twisted 100% of the time between wash/deep condition days and have transitioned from 3/4 wigs to lacefronts because the combs in those wigs were causing breakage. I love the LFs and my hairline is doing great. I don't swim so I don't ned to worry about getting my hair wet. I secure my LFs with 2 bobbypins only. I don't use the combs in any of these wigs anymore.
