  1. I just wanted to mention that our cruise is in January and we were able to book a cabana in February, believe it or not. I checked back in the spring and it looked like all of the cabanas were gone by then. Check with people in your roll call if you aren't sure. There are some people in mine that are so on top of things that I was alerted the moment when reservations were open for entertainment, dining, etc.

So I have some questions for the experts... we have an OTW cabana reserved (non-suite)...

    1. How deep is the water there?

    2. Is the cabana that's furthest away from the beach more "private"?

    3. Were you transported via golf cart to the buffet?

    4. Did you request a specific cabana or did you take whatever you were given?

    5. Were you off the ship as soon as they docked?

Thanks for starting this thread! I am obsessive compulsive planner so I love getting all of the great information ahead of time!

  2. There were characters all around the island, so be on the look out. We don't have kids so we went to the adult beach which was awesome. I'd say if you want to avoid crowds, never go to the first beach you get to, try going further down on the island. Also seating can be tight during peak hours around 12 so might want to try getting to lunch early or late.

  3. We have a plan to take the Akumal Snorkeling Adventure shore excursion in Cozumel to swim with the turtles. I've been snorkeling several times and the only time I had difficulties was when we did snorkeling that was far from a coastline (there was no land in sight). So the sea was rough and I was constantly battling the waves since as soon as I out my face in the water I found myself several feet further away from the boat.

It sounded like the Akumal Snorkeling Adventure was closer to the shore, but I might be pregnant (second trimester) by the time we cruise and wondering if there is anything I should be concerned about.

  4. We have an over the water cabana reserved at Nellie's Beach on our cruise in January. I have heard conflicting info saying that cabanas are assigned before arrival to Labadee or not assigned until you arrive (first come, first serve). Wondering what everyone's recent experiences have been, I am perfectly willing to show up early in hopes I get the cabana I want though I am sure any of them would be great... I am just OCD when it comes to planning. :D

  5. We are on the November 1st sailing. We are celebrating our 5th anniversary and her Birthday on this cruise. I wanted to make it extra special. Not too long ago the CL suites were going for over $7000 for two people. I love price drops!

So sweet, what a wonderful surprise for her!

  6. Hard cider is very popular up here around this time of year, in fact Philadelphia has a whole festival around hard cider in the fall. It's one of my favorite alcoholic drinks (I love McKenzies Hard Cider, it's based out of upstate NY).

I am with you, I love cider (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and not sure if I ever saw it on the menu, though maybe I wasn't looking hard enough or it was the wrong time of year!

  7. I couldn't disagree more with Princess being "premium". I have done Disney, Carnival, Princess, and Royal. We did Princess the first and only time for our wedding.

The MDR food was better on Princess, but IMHO the buffet food was so terrible that I was forced to eat at the MDR every meal because I didn't like ANYTHING there. I would say that I think Royal's ships are more grand and impressive. I felt Princess' ships were kind of "eh". Was never really impressed by anything on the ship, including the shows.

I am personally not a fan of Nassau but enjoyed Grand Turk. We did horseback riding in the ocean which was a little scary (falling into the ocean wouldn't have been a big deal but it still feels scary riding a horse bare back). But I enjoyed it.

All in all, I felt Royal was better over all, all things considered. My run down would be...

    Buffet food: RCI

    MDR food: PC

    Service: PC

    Ship: RCI

    Onboard activities: RCI

    Shows: RCI

    Planning experience: RCI

  8. We had a Disney cruise last year and my flight was about 11, I had called the cruise line and they said that although they don't recommend it, I could probably make it if we were first off and be able to take the cruise line bus back. We brought carry-ons only to avoid having to check-in luggage which helped a lot.

Problem is when we got on the ship they are suddenly telling us there is no way we'd make our flight. I got upset and started to make calls to even try to hire a car to pick us up before we left port and I couldn't use my cell phone. Then talked to a supervisor at the customer service desk that said no, I would make it assuming we got to port as planned.

We got up bright and early and were one of the first people off, however, you have to wait for the bus to fill. The entire time I am stressed and freaking out... all in all we did get to the airport on time (with time to spare) but it wasn't worth the stress!

  9. Just booked the Prohibition Party and have a few questions:

    1. What kind of drinks do they offer and how many?

    2. Is there any food?

    3. Does most of the party revolve around dancing? I read someone who said there was a lot of dancing. My husband is shy and doesn't dance much.

    4. Would it be less fun for a couple since we're not in a big group and socializing?

  10. My mom is cruising with a friend in October and I was thinking I'd like to buy her a drink package for her mother's day present. I know you can give gift certificates but it seems so much more fun/personal to buy something specific instead of just more or less giving her money. Does anyone know if I can just call Royal up and provide my credit card for them to add it to her reservation?

  11. We went on a med cruise about two years ago (Navigator) and I recall there were documents we needed filled out and signed. We forgot to bring them so were asked to fill them out before going in line. Then they took our passports and kept them until the end of the cruise.

Not sure if it's different for Americans though since we're obviously not part of the European Union.

  12. So enjoying your review! We are going on Oasis in January so I am "taking notes". :) When you mentioned reservations opened early? How early? When did you book specialty dining and shows?

And just out of curiosity, when you met with the coordinator how did they work with your son on how to propose? Did it really seem worth the additional cost? What was all included?

  13. Cabanas were available online for our cruise a year before the cruise, we were able to get one reserved for over the water. Sometimes the suite guests will reserve Nellie's if they can't get one booked before the cruise (I heard they reserve some to be booked on the ship) so I would suggest anyone that can't book online to try to get on a list if one opens up!

  14. Since people have been giving their opinion. Here is mine. There should have been another place to check on the poll. Unless you were there and experienced it first hand. How about its "none of your business" to check off of that poll. But people insist on giving their opinions so you got mine as well. :):)

I respectively disagree. If they wanted it to be private they should have settled out of court instead of filing a public lawsuit. The fact they are asking to pretty much never have to work a day for the rest of their lives (I could live pretty well on $60,000 a year) I think it gives us the right to weigh in. Of course as long as it doesn't involve bullying or name calling...
