What are your priorities and have you looked at recent reviews on this board for these beaches?

Basically looking for just a nice, clean, and clear beach. Bathroom and changing room would be nice. Would like to swim in water if warm enough. all inclusive or not doesn't matter. Just not looking for a extremely rowdy crowd.

I have not looked at any reviews yet, but I will. Just looking for other people's opinions right now.

  2. We will be in Roatan on the Harmony in the first week of December. First visit to Roatan.

Does anyone know what the air and Ocean temperature might be at that time of the year? Does it rain a lot at that time of year?

Trying to decide on a beach day, but not sure which one. I'm looking at 4 different beaches and I'm hoping I can get some suggestions from previous visitors.

Here are the 4 I am considering. Any help in deciding would be helpful. Thank You in advance.

    • TABYANA BEACH
    • MAYA KEY
    • BIG FRENCH KEY
    • SOL Y MAR BEACH CLUB

    Thanks again for your help.

I dont have a map but I'm sure google does. The streets are laid out by number and alphabetical.

I would stay along seawall .. and walk along that area. There is a trolley but so many will be walking there really isnt a good place to park. Quality inn is at seawall and 61th and inexpensive and not too bad.

The pleasure pier is mid sea wall and the center of the hotels and the closer generally the more they cost. Call uber to get to the pier. As low as about $10 but for a bigger car can run more. Its about 3 miles to the terminal, too far to walk

Thank you very much for all the info!

    Hi All,

Looking forward to taking our cruise out of Galveston. First time sailing out of Galveston.

Looking for some hotel recommendations for the night before cruise.

I am very confused with all the different "areas" or "communities" in and around Galveston and I am not sure of the best place to be looking for our stay.

We are landing in Houston Hobby at 12:00pm so we will only have about 1/2 day for sightseeing, but we would like to be able to explore Galveston as much as we can for the amount of time we have there. Obviously, we don't want to be too far away from the Port.

Some nice, but not overpriced restaurant recommendations would be appreciated too.

I am also looking for a map of the Galveston area so we can see the different communities and location of the Port. I have looked online, but I haven't really seen one that really gives you a good view of the different areas.

If anyone has a link for a good map that I can print out, I would greatly appreciate it.

International Pier is the RCCL pier unless you are onna smaller older ship then sometimes they dock at Punta langosta in town.

You can see all three locations on google maps and do a virtual walk.

6 minute walk from International, probably 5-10 drive from Langosta depending on traffic.

We are on RCCL Harmony of the Seas.

Now I remember. Langosta is the furthest from the town.

I just confused the location of each one.

I hate that Taxi ride from Langosta.

    Thanks for refreshing my memory.

I like the fact that you only pay a deposit.  It it's raining or something you're only out $8 not $71 for Royal's excursion

When you say a 6 minute walk from the pier to Del Mar, are you talking about the International Pier or the RCCL Pier? Or is RCCL now docking at the International Pier?

  7. We currently have a flight out of Houston Hobby at 10:15am. I thought we would be able to leave the ship in time to make this flight, but I am told we should not book any flight before 12:00pm if we want to make the flight. I guess I am going to have to change our flight now. I'm sure I won't get the same great flight rate that I had. I didn't realize it was going to be such a problem with transportation back to the airport even with walking off the ship as soon as we are able to disembark.

    ☹️

Dickens on the Strand is that weekend so it will be a little busy.  I would try to fly into Hobby - much closer.  I would not book a hotel by either airport - Bush is pretty remote and Hobby is in a sketchy area.  We've stayed at a new Home 2 Suites in Galveston - decent rates and great location.  Galveston is pretty small so you can Uber around if needed - if you rent a car there is nowhere to drop it off on a Sunday so you would be paying for a week and also have to pay for parking.  Probably easier to just Uber or Lyft.  Royal does shuttle to and from both airports.  We're on the week before you so we'll try to take care of the ship!  🙂

Thank you for your help. I will look into everything that you mentioned. Always nice to get feedback from other people that know the area.😊

Hobby is a little closer but I've flown into both and barely noticed the difference. I think the it is about 15 minutes difference.

Hotels in Galveston are always expensive. I managed to find a deal on our Dec 10th sailing but that is rare. If you are looking to economize look for a hotel in Texas City.  That might work out a little better for your car rental as there is likely to be more options than Galveston.  You'll have a 20 minute uber ride on your cruise morning.

    We have always used Uber/Lyft.

Royals Shuttle to IAH is $54.  Hobby might be a little cheaper.

    It's an island.

Thank you. Do you prefer Uber or Lyft? Do you make reservations ahead on the app or just wait until that morning? What do you use from port to airport?

I'm thinking of booking IAH because we will be flying from Rhode Island in December and there is always a chance of snow. I might have a better chance of getting out Providence by flying into a bigger airport. Just a thought.

  10. Hi All,

My husband and I are cruising on the 12/3/23 Harmony out of Galveston.

We have been on many cruises, but first time out of Galveston so I have many questions that I hope can be answered on this forum.

    1. We are flying to Houston either one or two nights prior to cruise. We are trying to decide if we should fly in and out of George Bush or Hobby? How far are each of these airports from the Port?

    2. I saw on one of the boards that there is some kind of Festival going on in Galveston the weekend of departure and hotels are hard to come by and expensive if you can get one. If this information is correct, should we try to stay in or near Galveston or near the airport, or somewhere in between? We would maybe like to see some sites if time allows.

    3. With coming in a couple of days before cruise, what would be the best way to get to Galveston from the airport? Shuttle, Uber, Car Rental, some other way? Are there rental car companies near the port to drop off a car rental if we rented at the airport?

    4. Does anyone know how much the RCCL after cruise shuttle is back to airport? Does the shuttle service both airports or only one?

    5. Not familiar with Galveston at all so this may be a stupid question. Is the Port of Galveston on an Island or on the mainland?

Thank you all for any help you can provide. I just want to have all of my ducks in a row for this cruise. I hate going somewhere for the first time when I am unfamiliar with the area.

  11. We want to just take a taxi and do a beach break in St. Thomas on this trip. Maybe do a little shopping near port on the way back.

Thinking about Sapphire or Magen's Bay. Just my husband and myself. Just not sure which one.

Looking for some personal opinions to help me make a decision.

Would like to know how far each beach is from the Royal Caribbean dock and approximate taxi cost per person each way.

Is there less traffic to one or the other?

Are there public restrooms and changing rooms on each beach?

Does anyone know what the water temp. is the first week of November?

Thank you in advance for all of your help in making a decision on these 2 beaches.

  12. Hoping for some ideas to help me decide what to do.

We are on the Voyager leaving out of Boston on 10/30 and disembarking on 11/6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

We are not flying out of San Juan until 9:00pm that night.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we might be able to do in San Juan from the time we leave the ship until we check in at the airport at 7:00pm?

Of course, we will also have luggage with us so I guess that puts a big damper on available options I think.

Does anyone know if there are any daily resorts that we could spend the day at with our luggage in tow until we have to be at the airport? Or possibly any other ideas that we could look into?

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

Donate some money via any of the games.

I always play in the casino, but how do u get signed up as a member? Is it just from monitoring  your seapass? I just haven’t heard of the labeling I guess.
What about the online casino games you can play for rewards? Doesn’t Royal Caribbean participate in those rewards too?

  15. According to my Crown & Anchor newsletter from my Loyalty Ambassador on my last cruise this past May, it states that "As a Diamond member, you are entitled to "One free day of Surf Internet for 1 device or $25.99 off any Internet Package."

Can you please explain to me what a "Prime Member" is? I have not heard of this before.

    Thank You,

    Nancy
