  1.

Thanks for the links. I like the looks of the Victor Bodden Starfish Sandbar and Cayo Blanco snorkeling excursion. This is one we will seriously consider, I think.

  2. I believe the Jewel is alternating between Roatan and Trujillo as the 3rd port every other week. We are going on Jan. 24, 2015 and will stop at Trujillo. Personally, I'm looking forward to visiting a place that is not quite as developed as others.

ETA: The 11/22/14 departure goes to Roatan, not Trujillo. The 11/15 and 11/29 do include Trujillo. Just depends on when you're sailing.

  3. My favorite place to eat breakfast on the Jewel is at the Great Outdoors which is at the back of the ship on Deck 12, it is open air and has a canopy above. Its is a wonderful place to enjoy your mornings. I will be there on the 23 third of November.

This. I really enjoyed eating at Great Outdoors for breakfast. It's a good place for nighttime snacks too. I missed having a spot like that on Mariner of the Seas.

  4. First of all: "to each their own". Your vacation is your business!

With that out of the way: it astounds me that people want to lug around HEAVY cases of fizzy sugar water! In a vehicle, then through a cruise terminal, in the boarding line, onto the ship, etc! All in the name of a certain brand of fizzy sugar water. If you don't like Pepsi (I don't either!), drink something else! Water is a good choice, or juice, or lemonade, or coffee, or... You get the idea. Enjoy the cruise and ports of call... Surely the soda brand wont ruin the vacation, will it?

You don't mention your daughter's age, but maybe this is a (small) opportunity to teach her that the planet does not rotate around her desires, and she will actually survive without her favorite soda. She might even break that soda habit and you can thank NCL for the lack of Coke.

I hesitate to respond to trolls, but what if they only offered one brand of beer and it wasn't your favorite? I plan to bring my own Diet Coke. I would bring it to the movie theater too if they would let me. Why pay those high prices?

  5. I have only been to Cozumel once, so my experience is very limited. We went to Passion Island (Isla Passion) and had a good time. It is all-inclusive and requires about a 40-minute boat ride to get there (catamaran).

The beach is beautiful. The day we were there (January 2013) the water was kind of rough and cold so we didn't really swim, just waded in the water. There are floats and things in the water to play on.

It was almost all adults. There were some young adults there -- I think they were part of a wedding -- and they got a little rowdy but not bad. The bar had to cut one woman off because she was so drunk.

The included drinks are not the strongest in the world, but they were okay. Lots of people seemed to think so! You could get beer or drinks like margaritas, rum punch, Sex on the Beach, blue margaritas, rum and coke, Coke/Diet Coke, etc.

The buffet included chicken nuggets, grilled chicken, fish, chips and salsa, and guacamole. Probably other stuff too.

    The waiters were very attentive.

We were there for three full hours. It wasn't crowded at all.

They had umbrellas and lounge chairs. Lots of shade if you want it.

I would go again, and we may do that in January when we go again.

  6. We did this excursion in January 2013 when we were on the RC Mariner of the Seas. We just chose it at random from the options -- wanted to spend a day at the beach. We got off the ship at about 8:45, did some shopping at the port shops, and then caught our mini-bus at 9:30. It took about 30 minutes to get to Montego Bay and the beach.

This is called Irie Mon Beach but its real name is Cornwall Beach. It's right next to Dr.'s Cave Beach. Our day was all-inclusive. They have lots of lounge chairs in the sun or you can find shade. There's a DJ that plays beach music all day. There was also a kind of activities director who tried to get some games going, but no one seemed interested. The beach is nice. They have objects out in the water to climb on and a trampoline.

Lunch was pretty good -- burgers, jerk chicken, rice and beans, cole slaw, fresh fruit, etc. The bar was open all day and I thought the drinks were a little stronger than the ones we had at Passion Island in Cozumel.

The bus driver stopped at a shop in Mo Bay on the way back to the ship where we bought some coffee and rum. Prices weren't especially low.

Overall it was a nice day. If we go back I think we'll try a plantation tour or maybe ziplining.

  7. Quick question... do you take a shuttle back to port from Rum Point or do you get back on the boat? I ask because there were two recent reviews on trip advisor that expressed fear of missing the ship. This makes me nervous....

When we went with Nativeway in January 2013 (on RCI Mariner of the Seas) we didn't have to call anyone. The captain of our boat (Capt. Chris of the "Trippin' Out") watched the time and after we ate lunch at Rum Point and had some time to swim or relax (we were there from 1:30-3 pm ship time), they got us back on board and took us back to the Yacht Club (at 4 pm) where the Nativeway shuttle met us and took us back to the dock (at 4:30) where we caught the tender back to the cruise ship. We had a little time to shop and caught the next to last tender (I think), arriving back on the MOTS at 5:30 pm.
