    Hi

have booked on Coral Expeditions in March from Melbourne to Fremantle.  Will McGowan let us in as I am from Melbourne.

you do wonder what WA people are thinking as they can’t have family to visit from NSW or Vic.

    eileen

I'm from WA and almost everyone I speak to here is more than happy to keep our border closed until after Christmas/New Year.  We have no restriction here now, BUT when borders open in Jan we will begin restrictions, smaller gatherings/masks etc.  Let us celebrate Christmas without restrictions, then you can all come visit and we get to leave our cage!

I was booked on the same cruise. Did you cancel your cruise before Princess did?

No Princess cancelled, we were still planning on going up until Princess cancelled.

This is not correct. As I mentioned earlier, I have already had one successful claim From Insure and Go on our annual cover due to the Do Not Travel alert as a result of Covid, for our cancelled trip to Bali supposed to be in late March. I received the airline cancellation penalty back.  The money was returned within 21 days of making the claim.

What they are saying is that if you travel overseas after the Do Not Travel then you will not be covered for any Covid expenses. Cancellation penalties however, will be paid by them.

What I said is that they will not cover any trip for covid if the BOOKING was made after covid became known.  A year policy lets you make multiple trips in the year.  If travel is allowed to NZ in June and I book that, even though my policy was taken out last year before covid, I now would not be covered.

FYI..Just called Princess tonight.  Haven't gotten any e mails everyone seems to be getting..haven't gotten any FCC that  others from my cruise did get already and of course..no refund.  Sent in request Mar 23 for Mar 21 cruise.  Surprise...my account had no information regarding an option choice..so Princess would automatically sent option 1 in about 90 days from sail date.  Plus the cruise was not even listed as cancelled on the account??? whatever that means. So calling to check might not be a bad idea.

Thanks Brandee - I have received FCC for 1 cruise, just waiting on refund to cc, that was for cruise 22/3 so I know they have my request.  Will wait a bit longer, credit card refunds look like they are starting to move.  I think the working from home is a big headache for everybody.  I know my nephew who is in IT has had a lot of problems setting up laptops to access the company information, he says it not just a matter of giving staff a laptop and wifi.  He must set up each laptop seperately, to access only certain information, and must make sure staff home wifi is secure etc as they need to make sure no personal information can be hacked from those staff working from home.  I'm sure everyone on these threads would not like their account information and credit card details to get out on the big wide web, so I'm sure Carnival have to make sure their staff have secure internet etc. too.

I will wait and see if they keep their word too....nobody is really saying how much these refunds are....are they $200 deposits or $50,000 that some on CC are waiting for.....still suspicious too because Princess has put out too many false statements.....until we have our major refund put back on our credit card I will not trust them......

Here you go with doom and gloom again .... if people are saying they are getting refunds for cruises in that should have been in March and April then they are getting back the FULL amount of the cruise as they would have paid in FULL, not just the deposit.  I for one are happy that Princess is finally coming through on the refunds and that all your comments about how they are going bankrupt and they are stealing money and every thing else you said over and over is not coming to fruition.

Now we just need a vaccine, then we can all go back to normal- (except PrincessLuver who will have to cruise with a different cruise line. 😁

  6. I am also waiting on a refund for a March cruise and a June cruise.  I have received FCC and an email saying March cruise is cancelled and penalty "nil"

I am wondering if they are waiting to process the refunds because of some US tax filing or share form that is due soon.  Maybe they need the cash to still show up in their account to make the figures look better?  Or maybe the cash that they raised is not actually in their bank account yet.

If so, I just wish they would tell us an actual day they will begin sending refunds - this lack of communication is disappointing.

Article on ships with covid - check out the pie chart further into the article - Carnival have not done too bad in the number of infected ships BUT I think they are the top in infected passengers numbers.  Also of note is the statement: "Carnival provided the most detailed reports, including breakdowns of cases by ship, crew, and passengers. It was the only company to provide this amount of detail."

    https://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/tourism-cruises/article241914096.html

Wikipedia has list of ships and infections (might be accurate)

Wow a lot of theories going around.

Let's see if I have this right. According to testimony already given, Ruby Princess reported a number of guests with "respiratory difficulty" and that they had tested negative for influenza. They have reported illness as required, they may suspect COVID 19 but they do not have the ability to test. As I said before now it's in NSW Health's court. I suspect the "international" passengers were shipped off asap so that NSW Health would not be stuck with a bunch of foreigners taking up resources if they are sick. Unfortunately they just punted the ball down field and some of those international passengers were sick and contagious and didn't know it. Oh well not NSW Health's problem anymore they're gone. In my skeptical mind it also looks like NSW health wanted to get the Australians from other States the heck out of NSW as well for the same reason. Just my opinion.

I think it was more the case that incoming passengers, via ship or plan were required to self isolate for 14 days once they arrived home.  I mentioned before, I think NSW put on the buses to the airport (not Princess) because they wanted everyone who had flights to go direct to the airport and not wander around Sydney first.

So Princess weren’t supposed to exercise judgement in what was causing the illness but Health Dept was?  At that time I think swabs took a day to process?

So what judgement do you think Princess should have done, they didnt have the ability to do the covid testing, they took swabs of people with flu like symptoms, they gave them over at 3am, they let NSW Health know via medical log that people were sick that tested negative for flue - this was given to NSW Health 9.39am on the 18th and yet NSW Health still said not important passengers can disembark.  The could have done a priority test on the samples that took a few hours, but they didnt , they put it through the normal process.

  10. If you check out the exhibits on https://www.rubyprincessinquiry.nsw.gov.au/hearings/  you will see that NSW Health sent email to Ruby Princess 4.01pm March 17 for information   Ruby Princess answered 9.39am on 18th with spreadsheet showing swabs for covid19 were taken from passengers with flu A&B negative results.  This should have been the warning to NSW Heath.  They had that information in the morning of the 18th in ample time to make their decision by 4.30 that afternoon that should have been HOLD THE PASSENGERS UNTIL TESTS DONE.  The updated 20 March spreadsheet should not have been needed.

A little of topic here but does anyone have any numbers on Australians returning from the Cruise aboard Celebrity Eclipse that ended in San Diego after being refused at the port of San Antonio. There is some debate on another thread about the numbers of infected from that cruise and a figure that has come out on a group page on that other site that cannot be mentioned here keeps on being quoted as fact.

Cant guarantee the accuracy but most probably fairly accurate

Which is part of the terms. Once an issue is known it is not covered for future bookings. That isn't a justification for a refund as it is standard - otherwise people would just make bookings after that point and the insurer would be on the hook even though the booker knew that it was not a reasonable thing to be covered.

No - the terms are 1 Year, Multi Trip that COVERS pandemic, it is in the pds.  You do things your way if you want I'm just letting people know there is an option if they want to use it.  If the credit card company doesn't think its a valid dispute they will not do the chargeback.

  13. I'm with the group that says take the refund and agree Flight Centre may not survive.  If you have travel insurance that covers pandemic you can get the $600 cancellation fee from them.  I think a lot of people will be wary about booking travel with companies that charge such high cancellation fees.  I also had a trip to USA/Canada for May/June but had done all the bookings myself.  All flights, hotels, cruise and tours have not charged any penalty for cancellation.

That was in the existing details of the policy purchased though, as an exclusion. So the same product is being provided. The fact an exclusion is met is not a change in the product purchased.

No the original policy covered pandemic, all existing holiday bookings covered for pandemic BUT future holiday booking within the original policy dates now not covered.  They changed the terms effectively making 7 months of the policy unusable and refuse to refund or credit.

A credit card isn't a dispute management system.

They comply with the ACCC in that if you don't get the goods you paid for, then you're entitled to a refund. But here where the product has been delivered but there is a disagreement between customer and seller is not something they will get involved with.

The service hasnt been delivered if a person has an insurance policy for a year and after 5 months gets told by the insurance company that they will no longer cover you if you make a new holiday bookings because covid19 is now a known event, then they refuse to give refund for the portion of policy they now cancelled.  Just look on product review and see how many people are not getting the service they paid for.

On the 6th February we purchased a yearly policy with Allclear travel insurance at a cost of $3681.90. We have always been grateful to Allclear for providing us with insurance when no other company will even consider my husband. They are an offshoot of insure and go. I emailed them asking for an extension of time, say six months, as we cannot travel. The reply I got was no refunds. As that was not what I asked for I wondered if they had even bothered to read the email or just came out with a standard reply. The email also stated if I was not happy with the reply to write, not email, their complains department which I have done. Awaiting a reply, if they won’t play ball with me I will try the insurance ombudsman.  As loyal customers we expected better.

Try a chargeback on your credit card (if thats the way you paid) for the months left outstanding on your yearly policy.

It shows a pattern of behaviour where NSW Health may be lacking in professionalism or its ability to undertake its role.

It is clear from repeated statements by police, the actions of the commissioner, the blame of a crew member without evidence and the media released questionnaire that the investigation is solely focused on the Ruby Princess and no other organisation.

Detectives from across State Crime, Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics and Marine Area Commands are conducting inquiries under Strike Force Bast surrounding the docking and disembarking of the Ruby Princess at Sydney Harbour on Thursday 19 March 2020.

The priority of the investigation is to determine whether there was criminal negligence by the company or crew relevant to health issues prevailing on the ship, as well as any actions or omissions by any other entity, including NSW or Commonwealth departments, which may have directly or indirectly related to the death of a person from COVID-19.

One must keep asking the question why are the police not including NSW Health in their investigation when even Doctors are criticising their negligence in other domestic cases:

What has that got to do with the investigation into Ruby Princess.  And where is proof that police are not including NSW Health in their investigation - you keep saying they are not but you have no idea - your prejudice against the police is getting tiresome.

Sorry - but LOL here - you're cold in Perth???? We lived in Perth for a couple of  years loved the weather there - but you have 22C there today!  I'm hoping that at least Australia will open up to NZ travellers later in  the year - because for medical reasons I can't spend the winter at home ie I get cold and grumpy without a tropical beach

The evenings are getting cold and with the dampness my arthritis plays up and like you I get cold and grumpy.  During winter we like to cruise,  travel overseas or get away in the caravan and go up over the top and head to Queensland.  Wont be doing any of that this winter so I imagine the power bill will be quite a bit higher!
