  1. We were on Zuiderdam, too, visiting Saguenay on September,  22, 2018.  There were two other ships there that day, but we were at the dock and they had to use tenders.  The weather was stormy and we only got off the ship to see the big production of La Fabuleuse Cultural Show, giving the historical story of the region from 1605 to the present.

  2. On November 29, 2005, we were anchored off Christmas Island, Kiribati, aboard Amsterdam.  The first tenders to shore got into unexpected shallow areas that scraped their bottoms.  Very few passengers were able to get there, as our visit became unsafe, and we sailed away after the tenders returned.  My pictures show a long and low stretch of land, our view from the ship.

  3. We visited Walvis Bay, Namibia, in January, 2019 on our South African Explorer cruise on  Oceania Nautica. We enjoyed two days there, but all our excursions were away from the port.  The dunes were amazing and my trip in a small vehicle up and down them was breathtaking!
Wishing you well, Roy, on your upcoming surgery and recovery period.  Won’t it be nice to have this all behind you.

  4. We’ve enjoyed two visits to Muscat.  The first was our Arabia/Asia cruise, Piraeus to Singapore in 2014, on Rotterdam.  That ship had outstanding itineraries!  The second time was our 40 Day Transworld cruise, Southampton to Singapore, in 2016, and yes, also on Rotterdam!  Will HAL ever be able to offer cruises like these in the future?  I hope so.

  5. We’ve crossed the Equator at least 7 times, all on HAL ships.  If our cruises included both a north and south crossing, there was only one King Neptune ceremony.  We crossed on Ryndam, in 2008, Amsterdam, in 2009, Rotterdam, in 2010, Prinsendam, in 2011, Rotterdam, in 2012 & 2013 and Maasdam, in 2017.  Have videos of all the ceremonies.

  6. I was hoping someone would post pictures from Richards Bay.  We were there on our 2019 Cruise on Oceania.  We just stayed at the port which was not near the city at all.  All shore excursions were out of the city so it seems that it is not tourist place of interest. My notes say it’s large and industrial.  We shopped the local stands alongside the ship.

  7. I had to update my password, strange...

We sailed to Port Elizabeth, SA in January, 2019.  We took a15 day cruise on Oceania Nautica.  HAL didn’t offer an itinerary like this.  I took few pictures of the port, as this is where we selected our Safari day, at Lalibela Private Game Preserve.  We saw lots of animals from an open vehicle, that held 8 passengers in the hot sun.  It was an unforgettable experience!

  8. It really is fun to hunt for my photo/scrapbook albums to relive our days in the “Port of the Day.”  We have enjoyed Moorea three times.  Our first was January, 2008, on Ryndam and I haven’t found where that album is hiding!  Our second visit was aboard Rotterdam, in January,  2012, and third on Maasdam, in February, 2017.  All those ships are no longer with HAL, sigh.

  9. We visited this area, Tauranga to Aukland twice, first on Amsterdam, in November, 2009, and on Maasdam, in January, 2017.  The pictures posted, so far, are much like I found in my albums.  Our CC group planted a tree in a forested area in Tauranga, on our Amsterdam cruise, and we saw a lot of smoke on White Mtn, on the Maasdam cruise. I celebrated my birthday in Aukland in 2017!

  10. Thank you so much for the Daily, Rich and thank you for sharing your good news, Roy.

We have sailed the Suez Canal two times, but both were going north to south.  In 2014, our Rotterdam voyage started at 3:00 AM so I really had few pictures in my album.  We were back on Rotterdam in 2016, this time beginning at 10 AM, so my pictures are similar to those already posted. It’s been fun to find the albums and relive the cruises.

  11. We sailed the Panama Canal in 1999 on the Vision OTS,  cruising from San Juan, PR to Acapulco.  We stayed onboard the whole trip through the Canal.  In 2002, we took a Caribbean cruise on Celebrity Summit, that took the Canal partial cruise from Colon to the Lake.  We took a ship’s tour by bus to Panama City, for the day, and then back to Colon on the bus to reboard the ship.  In 2006, we sailed the Summit once again to travel the Canal eastbound this time. We began in San Pedro, CA and disembarked in FLL.  We stayed onboard through the Canal.  Our last experience was in 2018 on Westerdam, westbound from FLL to San Diego.  Again, we stayed onboard the ship through the Canal.  Four different experiences!

  12. I am looking at my photo/scrapbook of our January, 2005, South America/Antarctica cruise on the Amsterdam.  We flew to Santiago and stayed overnight at the Santiago Sheraton.  The next morning, we took a HAL tour through wine country to board the ship in Valparaiso, so we missed today’s port of the day.  I hope HAL still continues to take this itinerary as it’s outstanding!

  13. We have visited Puerto Chiapas twice.  The first was on Rotterdam’s South American Explorer in March, 2010.  We took the ship’s tour to Izapa, to see the ruins and then visited Tapachola City.  Our second time was in February, 2018 on Westerdam’s Panama Canal. cruise.  I go through my photo/scrapbooks  to see what we did in these ports, Rich lists each day, if it’s a place we’ve visited .  Turns out we saw the same sites the second time!

  14. We visited Aomori, Japan, in the fall of 2007, therefore we didn’t get to see spring blossoms!  We did visit the Nebuta Village, where giant floats are on display and the Sannai Maruyama Ruins. We sailed on the Amsterdam from Seattle to Hong Kong, a wonderful first visit to Asia.
