We have been at this cruise game for over 40 years!  But some things never change or get old.  As we walk onto the ship at embarkation it is like all the problems of the world stay behind and we are truly home.  It does not matter which cruise line or ship....it just feels like home.

    I totally agree!!!

  2. So...I have been on 6 Caribbean cruises and 1 Alaskan cruise (that just happened in September this year). My husband and I noticed that the vibe on board during our Alaskan cruise was COMPLETELY different than any we've been on in the Caribbean. I guess this can be expected since the weather is different and there aren't people hanging out at the pool much, etc. We have now booked a Baltic cruise for next June, and I'm curious to know how the on board experience will be. What's the vibe like? I assume (as Americans) we will be in the minority. Is that true?

    Thanks for the help!

  3. I'm bummed because we are going to be there on a holiday, and there are a couple of things I wanted to do there that aren't open on holidays. Has anyone else experienced this before? We are there ALL day, as in 7 am to 8:30 pm, and this is the one port stop I'm having trouble with.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

  4. 4 of us will be arriving August 30 around 4:30 and boarding a cruise ship on September 1. We will have the evening of the 30th and all day the 31st to sightsee. We want to go to Pike's Market and the Waterfront. Not sure what else. I have been looking at downtown hotels, and they are WAY to expensive for us. I was also looking at hotels near the airport, but that doesn't seem very fun as there probably isn't much to do around there. Looking for lodging around $150 per night. What part of Seattle could we stay in that would have some good restaurants and maybe some shopping within walking distance of our hotel for the evening of the 30th, but that would also provide access to public transportation for getting downtown the next day for sightseeing? Is there such a place? I have never been to Seattle, so I know next to nothing about the areas of town. If it helps, the 4 of us are in good shape and don't mind walking several blocks to access transportation or get to a restaurant or whatever.

  5. Hi all! My DH and I have been to Antigua before so we don't want to do a tour. However, we DO want to go see the stingrays again. What is the cheapest way to do that? Taxi? If so, how much would it be?

  6. I highly recommend ziplining. On the ride to and from you get to see some of the beautiful country that Belize is and then zip through the rain forest. We did it through belizecruiseexcursions.com. Comes with a great Belizean meal after the ziplining.

  7. You mentioned Serafina's and the Market. For those two places you just take a taxi right from the pier to the town of Marigot. It takes about 30 minutes each way and costs less than $20 for two each way. There are great places there for lunch for all tastes and budgets.

I really love Chesterfield's at Doc Maarten. It has a very comfortable yaughty feel to me and is only a five minute walk or so from the pier.

I have never had luck with a good view from my balcony in St. Maarten. I have had views of a ship beside me and views of the working port.

Little Bay is a great beach to visit for an hour or so and it only takes 10 minutes from the pier and costs $10 for two by taxi each way. The view is lovely and it's not an all day beach to me but is a great beach to put in combination with something else such as you are planning.

There is shopping in the town of Philipsburg about a 15 minute walk from the pier. Front and Back street have everything from jewelery stores to electronic stores to souvenier and small department stores. There are great restaurant choices in town as well as on the boardwalk that is adjacent to the town beach that I personally don't swim at anymore. You can also catch the bus on Back street and take it to Maho to see the planes or Mullet for a great beach day and some people take it to Marigot and then transfer on to Grand Case. There are many options for a DIY day in St Maarten.

Lots of good information! Thank you!

  8. My DH and I will be in St. Maarten a week from Friday. We had Bernard's Tour booked but have decided to cancel that as we want a day to sleep in, drink coffee on the balcony, and just be lazy for awhile that morning without having to feel rushed to catch a tour. We are going to take his tour on our next cruise in Feb 2016.

So....anyway....I'm interested in going downtown. Would also like to visit Sarafina's and the market. Dumb question...but is the market in or near downtown or in a different part of St. Maarten? Can we walk to all of those places? Is Dock Maarten worth going to? It looks neat and apparently they have a good restaurant there. I assume it is within walking distance of the pier. What else is around the pier? If we wanted to visit a beach for an hour or so, what are our options considering the other places we are wanting to go?

Thanks so much for the help!
