  1. We have always enjoyed the auctions since we first went during a winter cruise years ago. We’ve even bought a few pieces- not because of reported worth or appreciating value, but because we liked them and they had value to us.

People drop thousands in the casino and hundreds on the drink package, and both are a-ok. We chose to drop our hard-earned money on art.

Fun fact- we first saw one artist’s pieces there, and we immediately thought of a relative’s painting style. We went home and told

him about the artist and pulled up pictures of his work. He now works with the artist’s business in Vegas. So something else good came of it.

I am so so sorry that part of this story disappeared again!  Cruise Critic won't let me edit so here is the part that "fell out this time.  Hopefully, I won't have this problem going forward.  Thanks so much for your patience with me!

We sat down and Misso started.  Suddenly, I did not feel well at all.  I excused myself for a minute. I   thought my problems would pass quickly but they instead started getting worse very quickly.  I knew pretty immediately what was wrong.  I had a UTI.  I have them pretty often, but I’d never had one come on this fast and this hard before.

Those are the WORST. Hope you healed up quickly!

It's with great sadness that I announce that my father Richard Wolverton, known on here as Rwolver672, passed away on Thanksgiving night after a brief illness.

Dad was a regular poster dating back to 2000 often sharing humorous reviews of the cruises that he traveled on and offering pointers and tips to anyone that he could. In fact, going through past cruise photo albums tonight we found several cruise reviews that he shared on this board that brought back fond memories of the trips we shared.

So sorry for your loss. Sending comfort to you and your family.

    EMBARKATION CONTINUED:

Head into our room, we had room 11208 for this cruise which is a balcony in the VERY front of the ship which was different. Some overall thoughts on the room: balcony is INCREDIBLY windy while at sea most of the time. If you are sitting down it’s fine but don’t plan on standing on your balcony for long or your cheeks (facial...mostly) will be flappin in the breeze. It’s partially shaded which I enjoyed. It is above a crew smoking area and occasionally you’d get a waft of smoke. Didn’t bother me but if you’re very sensitive to smoke I would avoid it. Overall 7.5/10 room. Hung out in the room for a bit, met room attendant Bayou who was an absolute sweetheart. He did not ask when we wanted service and just said he’d take care of it while we were out of the room. We are not picky with this so fine by me. Our only request was an extra blanket and he said he’d see what he could do.

Up to sail away run by Lee which was widely attended and a good time. Back to the room to change for dinner, suitcases have arrived! MDR for dinner around 6. I had tomato soup (good), Indian Vegetarian (decent, a lot smaller than it used to be though) and some melting cake with a side of peanut butter. Dinner service was quick, we were in and out in about an hour. D want to stop by the shops so he looks around and ends up buying a backpack, and I check out the “preview” thing that’s going on at the Center Stage. As far as I can tell, they sit on stools and sing some songs from upcoming shows. Ok then.

Hit the casino for a bit, D wins, I do not, my liver is winning via the casino bar. Head over to the theater for Color My World. This is a SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZE. The singers are decent, some of the effects are cool but I was falling asleep. Idk what it was, but shows were not hittin on this cruise. Theater was also the most empty I have EVER seen it and that includes that time on the Vista when we had the world’s worst singers front and center. Back to the cruis-ino for a bit, then we head back into the theater for the 11:30 comedy show. This is way past my bedtime. Comedian #1 I do not remember his name (#killingit) and was ok, he spent most of the show trying to hook 2 people up? Second comedian was Doug Williams, who I know as the man who got absolutely WRECKED during the roast of Jamie Foxx back in the day. Glad to see he’s still doing his thing I guess. He was somewhat funny. Total runtime for the show between the 2 was about 45 minutes. I have worked up quite the appetite sitting there so we head to Miami slice for some pizza. I have cheese, D has pepperoni, both are readily available and you just grab a plate, you just have to wait if you want a specialty one. Call it a night and finally hit the hay around 1:30am and I AM SLEEPY. Bayou has officially delivered on the extra blanket request. COME THRU BAYOU!!!!

Drun-chies pizza at 1am is always a good idea on a cruise.

I was reading along, smiling and enjoying the review. Then you used the phrase “a mockery of Prince,” at which point I cackled and nearly spit my coffee out.

It was clearly time to tell you that I love your snarky writing style. Go forth and continue to serve the good folks and occasional trolls of CC.

All right, time for a TL,DR about this whole cruise.

I enjoyed myself a lot.  I liked the shows I saw.  I liked the food quality.  I generally liked the service I received from the crew onboard.  I liked the places I went to and was pleased with the amount of surprised they held even though I didn't do much within them.  I liked and respected most of the other passengers.

After over 3 1/2 years away from Carnival, I have to say that overall I think they're pretty much the same as they've always been.  This surely was NOT a Disney cruise, but I didn't want that anyway.

Thank you for reading and looking at the pretty pictures.

Thanks for your review! We took our kids on a Disney cruise when they were small. The kid-centric parts were lovely; the rest was meh, especially for the price.

We’ve cruised RC, Carnival, and Celebrity. The last two have been our faves. We find Carnival to have the best value (food, entertainment, fun) for our money.

The first time I ever heard of it on a donut was at a trendy place in South Beach about ten years ago. It was $6 (so probably $9-$10 today) and seemed absolutely outrageous both in price and what it was. I tried it and other than the price tag had no regrets.

For years my former job used to provide donuts on Fridays and one of the offerings was this and I admit to indulging every Friday for years.

Now it is just an occasional treat but quite good.

Think of it like bacon with a plate of pancakes and syrup. It's pretty much the same thing but in handheld form.

The steak, well maybe that's a cultural thing because while the donut gets some weird looks in America too, bacon wrapped steak is a delicacy 😁

Related, sort of: have you ever had Million Dollar Bacon? It’s drizzled in maple syrup and given a sprinkle of pepper. So good. I’d eat it on a donut!

I think it is the competitive element I dislike. When I was a teacher, I spent a lot of emotional capital sorting out the very few children in the year who did less well than they had hoped in their exams. Hence, I spend all my time worrying about the losers, which banishes any possible enjoyment.

GBBO is completely different from most competitive shows. With the exception of Paul, everyone is nice. They’re literally competing for fame and a glass cake plate.

My daughter and I love it; we said if it was the Great American Bake Off, there’d be a brawl over pie and a torrid love affair before it was all said and done.

Those were the exact words a lady at the table (2 inches) from us said..,”should just make it a table for 6!”
As far as sea day brunch..,pre Covid I loved it! It was yummy, menu was bigger (they removed several favorites!) and it was our go to. Now…it’s still good, but with more limited hours, smaller menu, and yeah…not what it once was. I still have a few things to try this cruise, but I gotta admit…the next few days, being port days, I’m hitting up Big Chicken (have the biscuits improved? At least Bojangles quality?) and Blue Iguana (WHEN is the last time I had a breakfast burrito? I think pre Covid! Gotta change that!) and maybe, possibly, depending on my previous 2 choices… the regular buffet? Or maybe just pizza? I dunno.

Dang, so close! I tried. 😂

I love the Alaska salmon my husband smokes, but this..I dunno. Maybe being early morning, or it being pink (his is usually a more white/clear color on the smoker back home), it just was not appealing. I tried it..it’s my “something new” this cruise…not a fan!

I loved the biscuits in May on the Celebration. They were big and fluffy. A little butter and jelly from the buffet made for a great breakfast.

I loved the skillet cake at brunch. Is that not your breakfast style? I know some folks don’t like sweets at breakfast, and I support them…I just don’t get it. 🤣

Nope. Do not give her that benefit of the doubt. She got off the Celebration with us. And she’s sitting here at the airport near us. She has a suitcase with her… she could totally go to the bathroom and put on clothes. Or dress at security like NY lady.

Oh. Wow. I’m more afraid of what the situation is under her robe. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on the news tonight to see if there was an in-flight flasher. 🤣

@MeganGC1983so sorry you had to experience this.

Unfortunately I am afraid it is more the norm in today's society.  Kids run the home not the parents.

The rowdiness and loose canons is one of the reasons we have moved on from Carnival.

Even back in the 90s when Carnival allowed under 21 to drink it was not as bad as it is today.  Saw my fair share of high schoolers lose it while sitting at the bar.  Lean over and let loose on the deck but no verbal abuse or running wild like today.

Hang in there you do a great job with your own kids.

Part of this - a large part of this- is a parenting issue. We deal with it every day.

Love to see those three little charmers in a classroom.  And that is exactly why I was a homeschool teacher.  Never met a kid one on one in their own house who wasn't polite and friendly.  That does not mean, however, that they always did their work 😞

It's been worse since Covid, the stories I hear from job applicants, and these are people not directly teaching and they're burnt out.

Can confirm. It’s wild out here.

Megan, I’m sorry this happened to you!
