  1. Interesting...just went to My NCL, clicked on Explore and Plan, and then chose Stockholm (under the Filter By section). It shows NO excursions. I can click on every other port and excursions show up.

I wonder if that means they are loading up the excursions that are usually available from Nynashamn.

I just got the following email (we're on the June 16th sailing):

Dear Valued Guest and Travel Partner:

Recently you received a communication from us advising of an itinerary change for Norwegian Breakaway's 9-day Scandinavia, Russia & Baltics from Copenhagen. Due to the change from Stockholm, Sweden to Nynashamn, Sweden we will provide complimentary transfers from Nynashamn to Stockholm. Please note transfer times to Stockholm will be available to you once onboard.

Also, 8 of the Nynashamn excursions now show up on My NCL; unfortunately, it doesn't include the two that I might be interested in (which are listed on the main website if you're just searching on excursions). But maybe we'll just take the free transfer - but I'm sure they'll manage to screw that up somehow (probably with crappy times that only give you a short amount of time to tour).

  4. Who emailed you? I have not heard anything from NCL or my travel agent.

    thanks!

    Email was from Norwegian:

Dear Valued Guests and Travel Partners,

Norwegian Cruise Line has important information for you regarding Norwegian Breakaway's 9-Day Scandinavia, Russia & Baltics sailings from Copenhagen on June 16, 2018. All guests booked on this sailing need to be aware of this change and travel professionals are asked to forward this information to their clients.

Due to a berthing conflict, the itinerary for Norwegian Breakaway's 9-Day Scandinavia, Russia & Baltics sailings from Copenhagen departing on this date has changed. Norwegian Breakaway will dock in Nynashamn, Sweden from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

This is for the June 16th sailing, but I saw on the Norwegian board that other people have gotten a similar email for pretty much all sailings through August. At least they gave us 2 extra hours to account for the 1 hour each way bus ride. But it sucks that it no longer shows us cruising the archipelago after our day in Stockholm.

Now to see if they will let us book any of the excursions that they usually offer for Nynashamn.

  6. We used Netto - Badene (from Nyhavn) several years ago. As I recall, our boat did not stop for hop offs. However, Netto has a contact page on their website - why don't you shoot them a message?

    https://www.havnerundfart.dk/canaltours/index.php?page=kontakt.php

Sent them a message and this was their reply:

    Thank you for your enquiry.

That information is correct. You are welcome to disembark at The Little Mermaid. You are also most welcome to rejoin the next tour passing by, but they only make the stop if they have seats left so you are not guaranteed a seat on any future departure, after disembarking. Our crew generally do their best to communicate to ensure that we pick up as many as possible but especially during our busy summer days, it is highly unlikely for the boats to have available seats.

  7. Did you get an email? Curious, because I haven't and I know already that the Port of Stockholm website is showing all sailings of Breakaway as docking at Nynashamn (we are on the June 16th sailing that docks in Stockholm on the 23rd). If they make this adjustment for our sailing, they are at least giving us 2 more hours (I guess to account for the hour each way bus ride).

Now the question is - will they allow us to book the excursions they have listed for Nynashamn? There are some that are different from what they list for Stockholm proper. In particular, a couple that I think a lot of people would be interested in are the City Highlights and Leisure Time (Vasa Museum and then you're dropped off for about 4 hours of free time) and the Stockholm on Your Own (bus transport to Stockholm and then you're on your own).

  8. My Rick Steves book says that the Netto Canal Tour boats often make two stops where passengers can get off, then hop back on a later boat; at the bridge near The Little Mermaid, and at the Langebro bridge near Danhostel. He says that not every boat makes these stops and to check the clock on the bridges for the next departure time.

Does anybody have any experience taking this tour? I couldn't find anything on their website that would indicate this is the case. Seems like it would be a good way to see The Little Mermaid since it is a bit further out than most of the other sites we would want to see. But I would want to actually get off the boat to see it; not just sail past it. I know that some people say it's not a big deal, but I kind of like seeing things that a city is famous for - even if it is kind of cheesy :D

  9. I completely agree with the intentions behind your plan - it is quite easy to tour Stockholm independently if you dock directly in the city.

Do you know what the cancellation period is for the excursion you want? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but honestly any ship can be diverted at the last minute to Nyashamn. It's just that the larger ships (Regal/Royal Princess and NCL Getaway/Breakaway) are more likely to be diverted since they have very little extra clearance and a wind or current issue can cause a diversion. If you are still within cancellation without penalty period you might want to book an excursion and see if they figure out what they want to do ahead of time. But if you have no tour planned and are expecting to dock in the city center, please research the train ahead of time just so you have a backup plan in case you are diverted at the last minute, since it does happens sometimes.

And yes - it should have been listed correctly. When I took my Baltic cruise 4 years ago, it was the first year the Royal Princess sailed the Baltics, and that year the ship wasn't cleared to dock directly in Stockholm (both the Regal and Royal were cleared in subsequent seasons). The Princess cruises were correctly listed as Stockholm (Nynsanham) and I chose the NCL star because I was bringing my 3.5 year old and couldn't take the risk of docking so far away from Stockholm with a preschooler. Other people feel really strongly about this issue since they don't want to miss the sail in to Stockholm, so the cruise lines really need to list this honestly.

The problem is that the Nynashamn excursions are not an option when you look at the excursions for your reservation - you cannot book them; I only know there are different ones available by looking at the main website.

  10. I emailed Guest Relations about this because my biggest issue with this is that the excursions they show on My NCL that are available for booking are clearly for if you dock in Stockholm. The excursions for Nynashamn are different. Of course, they were clueless, saying you dock in Stockholm and here's the number if you want to book an excursion. They completely missed the point that the Port of Stockholm website shows us docking in Nynashamn and they are not giving us the correct excursion options.

How can you plan for both possibilities? If we dock in Nynashamn, I want a ship excursion (the City Highlights & Leisure Time that is offered only from Nynashamn, not from Stockholm). If we dock in Stockholm, we'll do it on our own.

The cruise has been marked as Stockholm, Sweden (as opposed to Stockholm (Nynashamn), Sweden) from day 1 and it still shows it this way. I would have had no problem docking in Nynashamn if they had just advertised it that way to start and if they were offering us the appropriate excursions.

    So frustrating!

  12. I emailed the Stromma people to see if they ran boats directly from the cruise ship dock to Vasa before 10:00 AM (since the Vasa opens at 8:30 in the high season). Below is their response:

    Hello

We usually have boats waiting for the cruise ship and then departs directly to the Vasa museum when it opens. You can only buy a return ticket, valid for 24hrs and you can use the whole day to visit all the other sights in Stockholm.

    Ämne: Question about Hoho Boat

    Hallå,

We are traveling to Stockholm via cruise ship on June 16th 2018, docking at S167 Stadsgarden. I read on some message boards that you have previously run early boats (prior to 10 AM) directly from the cruise ship dock to the Vasa Museum. I also read that you could purchase a one ride ticket for this.

Is this something you anticipate offering for the upcoming summer? We are looking for the fastest way to get from the ship to the Vasa Museum since it opens at 8:30 AM.

    Hälsningar,

    Jodie Hardesty

  13. Does the m/s Emelie run on Saturdays? I couldn't really tell from their website.

As for the Djurgarden Ferry, I didn't see a ferry stop that was only a 5-minute stroll from the ship; it looked like the closest terminal was at Slussen. And does it then dock at Allmana Grand terminal (a short walk to Vasa)?

And then how did you get from Vasa to Gamla Stan? Take the ferry from Allmana Grand to Nybroplan and walk to Old Town?

  14. I've read many posts related to the Vasa and using the Hoho boat to get there, but I'm still not entirely clear on a few things. We're docking at S167 Stadsgarden. The Vasa opens at 8:30 when we'll be there, and people have said the Hoho boat goes to the Vasa directly until 10:00 AM (meaning it goes counter clockwise from its normal route). So my questions are:

    1) There seems to be some question on whether or not you can buy a single ticket just for this ride.

    2) If you finish with the Vasa after 10:00 AM and want to go over to the Gamla Stan area, and you get back on the Hoho (with a 24 hour pass), will you have to ride on the boat in the other direction (clockwise)? Meaning, the boat stops at D, E, F (the cruise dock), and G before reaching stop H (Gamla Stan)?

    3) If we then want to take the Hoho boat back to the ship from Gamla Stan, we would then have to again ride it around clockwise (making several stops) before reaching the dock? Would it be better to just walk back to the dock?

Seems like this would all work so much better for everybody if the boat went counter clockwise and went from ship to Vasa to Gamla Stan and back to ship :D

  15. We rented a car from Hertz this past February. Pickup is near the Divi Flamingo resort (about a 10-15 minute walk from the port). I would suggest booking ahead of time. We pretty much drove around the entire island - it was very easy driving; especially once you get out of the main town. If you want to go to Washington Slagbaii National Park, it is $25 per person to get in (more than we wanted to spend).

Make sure you stop at the Cadushy Distillery in Rincon - interesting little place with some yummy liquers!
