  1. I agree with most of this with the exception of medicine. OTC meds are crazy expensive and you never know what you will need. Packing travel sized items helps to save some space. Things we commonly use: Benadryl (works for allergies, sleeping aid, motion sickness, cold symptoms), antacids, pain reliever, bandaids and neosporin, vitamin C drops etc.

minimus.biz has single dose packs of many OTC medications, I have a snack sized plastic bag with a bunch of these in it that I'm certain cost less than having to purchase even one item in the gift shop....

  2. A fun new one from my last two cruises is sitting at the casino or atrium bar and watching people who are trying to get drinks for two or more people off one person's Cheers..... Get your story straight first.

Also getting my S&S card, finding the room and dropping off the bags, first Funship Special, getting dismissed from the muster station.....

  3. We arrived at port today around 10:20, were assigned Zone 2 and set foot on the ship at 12:19. Not too shabby.

Here are the call times by category:

    1149: Priority

    1053: FTTF

    1158: Special Assistance

    1201: Zone 1

    1204: Zone 2

    1206: Zone 3

    1208: Zone 4

So we only had to wait 15 minutes behind Platinum and about 10 minutes after FTTF, but we had to get there earlier to do so.

    Thanks for your report.

  4. Thanks for the replies, would prefer a smaller ship but also want a bit of luxe as its husbands 50th and it will be a surprise. Will have a look a Fred Olsen, the Hurtigruten has good itineraries but the cabins seem small and other half is 6ft 4!

Happy to look at longer cruises too up to 14 days.

Yes the standard cabins are small but their upper end category looked very spacious and had a queen sized bed. My dad is also 6'4" and was 77 when we went last year and he said he was pretty comfortable in the single... But I realize that is not for everyone.

  5. Hi All,

I'm looking at next year (July) for a 7 day Fjords cruise as a surprise for my husbands 50th birthday.

So far all I can find in July is the Britannia, Azura, Crown Princess all huge ships or the Aurora and Arcadia, Aurora doesn't have great reviews.

1st time cruise (as a passenger, I worked on the Aurora 15 years ago!) have I missed anything does anyone have any preference of which ship?

If you really want to immerse yourself in Norway and the culture you could look at Hurtigruten. It's very different from traditional cruiselines in that the ships are smaller without a lot of the bells and whistles but you really get up close to a lot of the cities and smaller towns along the coast that the larger ships are not able to get to. The food is amazing as well.

  6. Just one more packing/ money saving tip...

    Regarding Perfume and Cologne...

Sephora has tiny spray ampules for giving samples of their perfumes.

Whenever I shop there (and develop and good rapport with one of the sales people) I sort of sheepishly ask if I could have a few of those empty spray vials. I've never been turned down.

I take the cap off and spray my own perfume or DH's cologne and replace the cap. Each vial will take about 30 spritzes of your cologne. Takes no room at all.

great idea! I usually ask for a couple sample vials (full) at the Estee counter when I make a purchase to use when I travel for work. I have a friend that shops at Peebles that regularly gets a couple of them when she buys anything there.

  7. Even the best cruiseline fridges have never gone below 45F. That's with the cabinet door propped open with a towel. (We have a thermometer on our travel clock and have tested it out.)

Soy milk. You need to ask for it.

Would need to bring in your own almond milk.

JH posted on facebook a day or so ago that almond milk is available. Where it's available I'm not sure.
