  1. Meenova Mini...... Nexus 7.... Sounds like new fangled gimmickry to me.

I have a good old fashioned big brute of a PC to view my Cruise Critic on.

Probably why I am still having trouble posting on here, my browsers keep re asking for me to sign in.... I have to creep up on it with Firefox.

...... Did I mention that my Mrs has got a little 7" nook... But won't let me use it :o

  2. Stevio don't talk about FO as golden oldies won't have anywhere to go :D

Yeah I don't want to put the mockers on the Fred line

Just thinking, I have seen some oldies on the IE... I suppose you have to be very, very, very old to go on Fred. :p

Anyone else having trouble posting on here today? .... I think I have just got it to work on Firefox ..... No it keeps logging me out..... But lets me come back to edit this... Funny aint it.

  3. Just an update regarding those sale rumours. The website that has the ship listed has been recently updated:

    http://www.marine-consultant.com/p508.htm

Now has IE as available for Immediate delivery (February 2014).

How come every time I am looking to book the IE they always trying to sell it? In fact the first time I booked the IE for Nov' 2010 it was the first year that they mothballed her for the winter... They sent me a letter saying I had been transferred to the Destiny (no major change cruise compo as they termed it an upgrade) but carried on selling tickets for the IE cruise for a couple of months... So wondering if she were to be sold, when would the customers be told.

Anyhow on my two visits to her so far she was full of mostly return bookers, so they must be doing something right.

Now if they could transfer the crew, entertainments team & especially the chef & buffets to the Dream, they would only need to double the size of the casino for the perfect product.

  4. Cabin 6082 had a fridge but there was no lock on it... Just a hole where it used to be.... We did have the safe but it kept jamming up on us & everyone from the steward to the man who delivered the cases could open it for us so do not know why we bothered really ... Having said that, I left cameras, phones & a laptop on charge while we were out & never worried about them being touched.

  5. Hi, as the search button seems to have vanished I can't check to see if this question has been asked before.

So, if you choose to use the safe in your cabin how do you go about it? Do you need to go to the reception desk to get it added to your account or do you do it through your cabin steward?

    Thank you.

Funny you should mention the CC search capability, I had a thread up asking what had happened to it on the 12th Feb, & the whole day's worth of posts were deleted, so I think they are trying to keep it quiet. I have a theory that the search is currently only working on android devices.... As for the safes, when we went on the Dream last year they asked if you wanted to book the safe when you registered your credit card to board the ship. This was a cracking idea as you didn't have to queue again at reception & presumed they would do it on all their ships with code safes in the future.

  6. Yes, welcome back indeed RR. This forum was in dire need of a professional Island Escape expert... Especially since I can't get the search on the threads to work any more... Will try to look in on here more often in future, but I am sure the old forum will pick up again when she re enters service in the spring.:):):)

  7. Hi all, just booked 2 weeks on the Island Escape:) leaving Palma on the 15th April. Is anyone else going and as a first timer on board(been on a few of the other Thomson ships)any tips would be appreciated.

We have been looking for a new cruise ship since the old Ocean Village & have so far found the Island Escape to be in the lead... Best advice is to not read the reviews, it's a real Marmite ship. People tend to give it full stars or one, & you can't help but concentrate on the ones.... So far we found the food, staff & atmosphere on the IE to be the best.. Have not been on her since the All Inclusive introduced, but I bet they still charge for bottled water. It seems to be a universal truth that all cruise ships with AI will let you have as much whisky as you want but always charge for the bottle of water. So the tip is that if they do still charge, nip out back into Palma cruise terminal & buy it from the shop there, about 5 euros for half a dozen bottles.

Two weeks over Easter on a cruise ship with a good itinerary.... Wish I could fit that in with the leave from my job, I can normally get only 1 week at a time.:(

  8. When I make a link to a page like this, I must remember to refresh it... Just checked again & saw no replies then hit refresh & 6 came up all at once.

This sounds serious, the Rebel Rouser is the Island Escape forum... Perhaps he needs a cruise & just suffering temporary withdrawal while IE is mothballed for the winter & he will perk up again for the spring.

Seriously though if you are out there Rebel hope you are well, & there are loads of us regular lurkers that would be happy to see you patrolling your old patch on CC again, even if only on a part time basis... It's just not right on here without someone in charge to keep order.

  9. This Island Escape forum has fallen apart since our very own Rebel Rouser has left... How about we start a petition to get him back in time for the Springtime re emergence of the I.E.... I am confident just one teeny weeny post from RR will start him on the road to his next 4000 posts.

I am sure a few names on here will coax him back.

  10. Mmmm! What's happening! Haven't posted for some time now so wondered if I was on the wrong forum! Haven't been cruising for a while so have nothing constructive to say. Just like to look in now and again. Hope you are well Jan. Where is RR??

    Kind regards to all.

    Mo.

I think RR resigned from CC after his 4000th post... Its not the same on here without him is it. Surely we can't leave this page headed with a thread intended for the NCL Epic...

Wait I have an idea.;) http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1985608

  11. Hiya, me again :)

Does anyone know how much it is extra to take more kg? :)

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

The basic booking on the Thomson cruise website is 20kg for free, then for an extra 5kg per passenger it seems to depend on the length of flight .... Palma Majorca £20.... Marmaris Turkey or Corfu Greece £25... Montego Bay Jamaica £35.

  12. I am still here... I class myself as a loyal lurker... Actually I must confess to being unfaithful with NCL recently, but I am back considering booking on the Island Escape next summer... Now that's really gone quiet on the IE CC site, I am frightened to post over there in case I wake someone up.

Anyhow, I can't be having it with these new fangled FB sites... If anyone needs to know anything about their next cruise, this is most definitely the place to be, what with Sailaway's , Kruzee's , Linda's & everyone else's invaluable knowledge, & even if you do not need to know anything I find this place always worth a lurk if only for the wisdom & wit of our vey own Geomagot :):):)

On behalf of all us lurkers who look but don't post, keep up the good work. ;)

  13. Another Thomson Dream cabin for your collection & hopefully a link to some pics.... Keep up the good work.

    Cabin Number: 6082 Outside Plus

    Cruise Ship: Thomson Dream

Date of Cruise: 26th April 2013

Bed Formation: Double bed but could be converted into a twin.

    Bath/Shower?: Bath with Shower above

    Adjoining Cabin?: No

    Balcony?: No

Comment on the Size of the Cabin: Spacious cabin, good length with plenty of room around the sides of the bed.

Comment on any Noise Issues: Quiet.

Comment on Storage Space: Double door wardrobe, open half hanging rail, 3 large drawers, 3 smaller + 2 tiny bedside draws.

Comment on the Bathroom: Chipped sink, stained bath, but all serviceable & clean. Loo angled towards bath so no space for knees forcing a side-saddle approach. Shower controls tricky to master but temperature stable. Minor flooding from drain under sink.

Any Other Comments?: Air con broke down 3 times but repaired promptly each time…, Room safe temperamental as to locking / unlocking… Headboard light switches could operate with an incautious move of the pillow.

Would You Recommend this Cabin?: Yes

    Score out of 10: 7.5

  14. Yay...Found the cabin number... Reading through my comments below it sounds a really bad review but with new mattresses it would have been an excellent cabin.

    Cabin Number: 6515

    Cabin Category: 5/6 Inside … Forward…Port side

    Cruise Ship: Island Escape

Date of Cruise: 25 Sep 2012

Bed Formation: Twin bed that was converted into a double, plus two unused bunks.

    Bath/Shower: Shower only

    Adjoining Cabin: No

    Balcony: No

Comment on the Size of the Cabin: Small...The bed is against a side wall when made up as a double so only one path down side of bed with space further restricted by folded bunk beds on each side.

Comment on any Noise Issues: Very quiet cabin.

Comment on Storage Space: Good for two people.

Comment on the Bathroom: Basin tap handle fell off on arrival, but quickly fixed … Shower walls & tray had been re-lined with plastic, although old corroded fittings were still there, & tray was a bit grubby… Looked like ground in boot marks from the fitter.

Any Other Comments: About the oldest & most uncomfortable mattresses we have found on any cruise ship… Dated TV with dodgy handset, mislabelled lamp switch on the headboard turned off power to TV.

Would You Recommend this Cabin: Yes

  15. Really good & helpful work you are doing here Sailaway.

Have an older cabin review from the Island Escape for your collection

Blowed if I can find the cabin number from our last inside room sailing. Also seem to have review details stuck in bold print... Never mind still learning

    Cabin Number: 8044 Premier Cabin

    Cruise Ship: Island Escape

    Date of Cruise: October 2011

Bed Formation: Double, could be converted into a twin

    Bath/Shower: Shower

    Adjoining Cabin: Yes

    Balcony: No

Comment on the Size of the Cabin: Space at both sides of the bed. A longer than normal room, accommodating mini table & 2 armchairs.

Comment on any Noise Issues: Only the men hosing down on promenade deck outside early in mornings... Sounded like rain, quite comforting.

Comment on Storage Space: Plenty, but with stiff old squeaky draws.

Comment on the Bathroom: Standard small & functional. Very dated with grotty tiles but new basin & loo seat. (2011)

Any Other Comments: Surprised to see a monster sized hairdryer provided with its cable bolted to the dressing table. The window looks out onto promenade with net curtains for privacy. Have to draw heavy curtains before putting on light or the smokers outside can see you and start waving.

Would You Recommend this Cabin: Yes

    Link to any Images: N/A

  16. Today it's down to £2782 only deck 3 or 4 left

Still not under cut my price yet :p

See what you mean about price cuts RR... My Thomson Dream cruise on 26th April dropped £45 per person, but the Island Escape alternative on the 23rd has seen its headline price of £770 for inside 5/6 go down to £638 pp in one go. Had I booked a one week cruise for two at the old price one day & seen it go down by £264 by the next I would have been a little peeved.

I know it's off season in April, but if you take off air fares, transfers & the All Inclusive, they must be getting close to a free cruise... The bit I don't get is so far there has been no advertising of any special sales, what's the point of bargain cruises if you don't tell anyone?
