  1. By countryside. I mean getting away from Stockholm and seeing what Sweden is like outside of town. I am sure there is more to Sweden than Stockholm proper and that is what I crave. We have plans to do the tourist things in town like Vasa etc. In Amsterdam we took a drive outside and saw the beauty of the country and not just buildings.

  2. Does anyone have a recommendation for tour or private guide company? We will be 2 days in Stockholm after disembarking 5/6/17.

I'm looking for the same thing but not getting any luck with responses. I know that Stockholm is easy to do on your own (which we plan to do) but really would like to get out of the City and see the country side for at least a day since we will have 3 days there.

  3. deec, all I can say is there is not one right way. Do what YOU feel comfortable doing whether on your own or through Viking. I must say that we took a Viking River Cruise. We added on a pre-cruise and extremely sorry now that we didn't do the post cruise, also. If you think you will be disappointed one iota then book it.

  4. Our cruise ended in Stockholm and we had booked a Viking paid excursion that was a tour of Stockholm's waterways by boat. It was, unfortunately, cancelled by, according to Viking, their provider. When we got there and saw the islands that make up Stockholm, we were more disappointed to have missed that tour. There are boats sitting in the water near the Viking dock waiting to be booked for a water tour of the city's islands. I would recommend doing that if you can, but can't supply a name. Perhaps the tour will be offered by Viking by the time you arrive.

Thank you! I appreciate your response.

  5. We will be arriving on July 31 for a three day pre trip for our Grand Circle cruise and will also be staying at the Radisson Blu. If I find any information for you I will pass it along when we return.

    Thank you very much.

We do plan to enjoy Stockholm on our own but getting away and seeing the countryside was what we enjoyed in Amsterdam. We enjoyed Amsterdam itself by ourselves and then our tour guide took us outside of the city. We learned and experienced more that way.

  6. We will be coming in on a 3 day pre cruise stay before boarding the Viking Star, May 2017. Looks like we will be staying at the the Radisson Blu Waterfront. I know I will have more questions later but at this point I was wondering if you can recommend a private tour guide out of Stockholm that may offer tours in the City and surrounding area. We hired one in Amsterdam and it was a highlight of our cruise.

    Thank you for your time.

  7. Unfortunately you cannot use the custom air option even if you fly out of Oslo instead of Bergen. They do allow a deviation to Oslo for a $100 deviation fee but you don't have any control over the flights like you would with the Custom Air.

Darn, NOT the answer I wanted, LOL. Thank you!

  8. I didn't want my question to come across bad. It's just when vacationing in Europe where I don't feel as comfortable booking on my own so we choose that route. Mexico, the US, places like that I do it all on my own. Europe intimidates me to no end so I like that there are reps looking out for us and can point us in the right direction.

  9. Ok, so I know you can't get custom air for the Homelands cruise but we have a post stay that takes us to Oslo and I am assuming we will fly out of there. I'm wondering with Bergen out of the equation if we would qualify for custom air. Anyone have experience with that?

  10. Hi,

We just booked our Viking Homeland cruise with a pre stay in Stockholm. Could someone please tell me what hotel or hotels are used by Viking. On our River Cruise I was able to plan our Amsterdam stay around the hotel that is used by them.

Also, if anyone has used a private tour company in Stockholm that they loved I would love to get some feedback on one. We had the best private tour guide in Amsterdam that took us out of the city.

Any must do's and don'ts for Stockholm?

    Thanks so much.

  11. Thank you Roothy! Looking at Nationwide and a few others, they definitely don't add cancel for any reason without checking a box and then it does have an added fee. I didn't see that Allianz even offered it
