  1. Ships use Satellite Internet, totally different than land based internet. Ships internet is ALWAYS ON.

There are some places -- like Japan -- that require satellite

communications be disabled in their territorial sea.

One time while docked at Skagway, AK, there was no satellite internet available due to the low tide. The mountains blocked the line-of sight.

  2. As of 7:55 Central I get this from Princess when looking at cruise availability using Internet Explorer:

    We apologize for the inconvenience.

It appears that something has gone wrong and we were not able to continue to the next step.

    • Your current session has timed out. Please close the current window and try again.

I've also been getting this message regularly for weeks now.

Have to log off then back in to "My Princess" repeatedly.

It's getting to be a real nuisance.

  3. So across the board, all Princess cruises have a US and a Canadian price again? It has been a couple of years now since the prices went to and stayed at par.

I used to know how to check prices in US on the web site to compare but I can't remember how to do that now. Or maybe the web site defaulted to US if you weren't logged in but now the web site knows who you are (via cookies I guess) even when you aren't logged in. I could create a new account with a US address I guess but we receive preferential pricing quite often due to being Platinum which wouldn't be reflected if I created a new account just to check prices.

Any ideas how to check this online? Mingus, how have you determined that there was a 10% increase if booked and paid in Canadian? Of course we all know that the Canadian dollar is off 10% against the US dollar so if you book and pay in US and the credit card company adds the exchange...yup, cruises are up in price by 10% on Princess!

Yes, I remember in the past you could toggle between US and Cdn pricing on the Princess website, but was then disabled. Recently with dollars at par, it didn't matter, but we're back to choosing between US or C$ :(. You can see the US$ pricing at travelo****.com with the past passenger discount.

I noticed the 10% increase when I checked the pricing in "My Princess/Saved Cruises". Luckily, I had printed my list of cruises before I updated the prices.

    Example:

    Grand Princess, Sept 22, 2014

    Yesterday's price - C$1099.00 inside

Today - C$1208.90 (exactly 10 % increase) (at the "other" website, still US$1099.00)

    Golden Princess, Sept 20, 2014

    Yesterday - C$89.00 inside

    Today - C$97.90

One strange exception was Grand Princess, May 17, 2014......the C$59 inside did NOT change.

One bright side is that the 10% increase is still less than today's bank exchange rate of 13.5%.

  4. Not sure if it would be worth it since you will be the last to disembark... You may just have 3 or 4 hours before you have to be back on the ship. A Princess tour may be a better option...

I think as long as you have your new cruise card and in-transit pass (usually delivered to your cabin the last night), you're able to disembark as early as you want. The last to disembark, would be the B2B passengers that wish to remain aboard for the day.

If you are fairly mobile, the Sun Trolley is a inexpensive and easy way to tour the area. You can catch it on SE 17th St. which is fairly close to the cruise terminal.

  5. Good to know there is a good chance they will be using Canada Place. If not, I don't remember the Ballantine pier being that far -- will just get a cab. It would just be nice not having to do that -- so am hoping they will do as you mention. thanks

You can check the berth assignment for your ships, at the Port of Vancouver website.

I have never known Princess to use Ballantyne Pier (a couple of miles east of Canada Place), at least not in recent years.

Unfortunately, our Grand Princess departure on May 17th does use Ballantyne. :(

  6.

I know Avis doesn't allowed going to Dyea, but Green Jeep Rental does. Is Dyea worth a stop, or is it not worth the time?

Does anyone know if Avis still does not allow driving to Dyea?

The gravel road there looks fairly decent.

  7. They ask for 2 weeks, but it can't hurt to try. Fax the request ASAP

How quickly can you get the credit after you purchase the stock (we use online trades)? I had no idea they do $250 for 14 night cruises. We sail in 8 days and wonder if we bought stock today if it would be credited in time.

Fax in your request, then call Princess Booking Support at 1-800-872-6779 ext. 30317. They can immediately add your OBC to your booking, while you wait. I've done this a few times when the fax has gotten "lost".
