Well we used luggage valet departing FLL yesterday and still do not have our luggage
United cannot even tell us if it made it on the plane. When leaving the ship, we were told we had been selected for customs screening and were taken to a room where our luggage was supposed to be searched but our luggage wasn't there. Then we were told it had gone ahead to the plane- but it wasn't at Chicago when we arrived. Still searching.

On the Allure now and it was Wednesday night this cruise with two shows in the evening.

We'll be on the same ship- but our kids are all grown up!

If needed- the consular agent would travel to you- you might be billed for expenses. There may be honorary consuls on the island. The port authority can probabably arrange for you to travel to an island which can issue you the needed documents are you are held at the new port.

Even if there were no embassy on the island there would be a consular officer either on the island or near by. If you went to the police, they would get you in touch. If you had not had a passport before and were a US Citizen, they would find some way to issue you one. It might be very expensive-but I'm sure it could be done and it might take some time. There are temporary emergency passports that can be issued. Years ago, the son of a friend of mine lost his passport on his flight to Europe- when he arrived in Germany, he had to wait at the airport until a consular officer came and issued him an emergency passport- I think he was there about 10 hours.
I do not take my passport with me when I am off the ship, the risk of it being stolen is greater than the risk of my missing the ship.

I won't take my passport off the ship- I don't to risk it getting stolen in port.

We stayed after our Viking cruise and it was fine. Breakfast good and the shopping center across the street had a handy grocery. I think wi-fi was free in the lobby. We had our own wi-fi hotspot we rented and that was good. We never - other than the included breakfast - ate anything at the hotel. We bought metro tickets at a little tobacconist nearby. We had no problems getting around.

Thanks- and I am on the Allure and not the Oasis! Don't know why I put Oasis in.

We have an oceanview balcony, gold C&A members. I know robes are not included inour cabin- has anyone NOT been able to get one on request?
Can customer service or the bars make change?
What are the ATM fees?

We are flying in the night before our cruise and want to visit some relatives in the area. Are there any car rental companies that have a location at the air port and the cruise port? Ideally, I'd like to pick up a car at the airport and drop it off the next day at the cruise port.

If your relative is getting SS benefits, he must have proved his identity at some point. As the other link stated, there are alternate methods if no birth certificate. If there are problems, I would suggest contacting you congressman.

We just got back from Viking Portraits of Southern France -my husband and I each took a twenty five inch suitcases- my husband wore the same thing every day - a pair of docker type pants and a button down shirt. Depending on how much he was out during the day, he might change his shirt. I brought a pair of black jeans, pair of blue jeans, black capris and a pair of black knit pants (almost like sweats) that I wore only on the plane. I bought a great reversible dress and jacket at Travelsmith and wore that for most dinners (or sometimes a jacket or sweater with the black jeans). Shoes were my trusty Merrell jungle mocs in black and pair of hurache style flat sandals. I wore the sandals with the dress and my capris. I only wore the capris once on board on a nice sunny afternoon.
