  1. I thought purchasing Air through Celebrity afforded the customer the opportunity to defer payment of air until FP and in the event of cancellation, there would be no liability on the part of the customer??

Back on Topic. I received a call from my NCL CC this morning. She wanted to advise that she had gotten a letter late yesterday stating that going forward anyone who has the drink package will be served liquor in all ports. She said it was a letter from upper management. Whoever that is….anyway I thanked her for the info. Hopefully it’s fixed.

Thank you but what about the cruisers who PAYG for their alcohol??

You might want to keep an eye out for a sneaky-ish trend in the Carnival brands. The 15 a day limit used to refer to alcoholic drinks only. It is now beginning to be amended to cover all drinks. HAL started this trend and P&O's new drinks packages seem to be incorporating this change.

I'll bet that Princess won't be far behind.

I thought the 15 a day limit only applied to alcoholic beverages on HAL's Signature Package not the Elite Package ??

The March 16 is still showing up on my cruises. Ours was cancelled on 1st May. Asked TA for refund. Not heard anything from X or TA. Will be chasing this up tomorrow.

    Good Morning

Not good but I am unsurprised especially with ref to TA.

I recall your earlier post.  I think I may have deduced the TA you used.

Persistence is the key and under UK regs, they must refund your money within 2 weeks.  Contact Trading Standards if necessary.

    Good Luck

Was the higher cost cabin kept?  Perhaps with volunteers cancelling, the non-cancelled cabin had the complication removed?

Celebrity did not ask for volunteers.

The family have not updated us.

Considering one poster said there were 2+ bookings for their cabin, does anyone know how the decision was made re who kept the cabin?  First booked, most paid, short straw selection?  I'd hate to think it was arbitrary with no logic behind the choice.

    I will cite one example.

A family booking of 2 cabins on my cruise date.  Different cabin grades but both cabins belonged in the overbooked category.  One cabin only was cancelled.

Because how Celebrity is handling it IS the problem

    Also Celebrity created the problem??

1st May 2023 is the deadline - may I ask which timezone?? and it is reported that some cruisers only received their notifications in the last 24 hoiurs.

If we’re cancelled, we’re also cancelling our Galapagos booking and will never sail Celebrity again. We may actually cancel our Galapagos cruise regardless. I’ve lost all faith in Celebrity

Did you ever receive a reply from the Celebrity rep in Belgium ? I appreciate it is a Bank Holiday in most of Europe today and all offices may not be open.

If you buy the travel insurance within 7 days of the initial deposit the pre-existing condition clause is generally waived. It always has been for me, and it specifically says so on the insurance I just purchased recently.

Possibly for USA cruisers but I doubt that very much in the RoW.

My cruise on 16th March 2024 has officially been cancelled. It is what it is. I will find other exciting and interesting things to do

    Sorry to hear that.

Maybe of interest, but MSC have just announced they will be sailing year round out of Japan. Between Jan and Mar, the Bellissima will homeport in Naha.

I am on 5/15/24 and I know there are open cabins (not regular verandah, but others).

You are pretty patient waiting for a cruise that 2.5 years out.  So much can change between now and then.  I don't get those defending actions which are indefensible.  I suppose what bothers me most here is the low margin bookings SEEM to be the ones being canceled, so it just appears to be a little corporate greed here, almost to the point where the cruise line is making the most of its mistakes.

I love the actual Celebrity product, specifically the M class ships, which Celebrity constantly updates and upgrades.  After my Japan cruise next May, I will probably not book Celebrity anymore because of their new policy on grabbing 100% of deposits on nonrefundable deposits. Maybe I would consider booking a cruise, but only a nonrefundable very close to final payment on a good deal.  The refundable prices get to a range where more premium lines cost about the same.  I'll look for Azamara and Oceania or even other options.

On my Oct 24 roll call, some 'low margin bookings' were confirmed only in April just before the 'culling' - they had previously been waitlisted.  Go figure as they say.  Which cabin grade I don't know.

Occasionally I have had the thought, that X selected cabin numbers by lottery,

I have no evidence that I have been culled but thinking of cancelling and offering my cabin to a multi-generational family impacted but that would cost me my non-refundable deposit (SOP in UK).

Not available is possibly not the same as "oversold", like you said. It is very possible that those cruises are now full already. I apologize if I'm sounding short, but this topic has veered from its course, sometimes from misinformation, sometimes from word context. I'd just like posters to be accurate in what they are posting as there have been a ton of people negatively impacted by Celebrities actions, and inaccuracy doesn't help those still waiting with baited breath.

I don't mind people being 'short' - I can come across like that myself.  I do mind other posters who do not want to search the posts themselves even though they say they are curious.  Anyway I am out,

This was my issue with the person who posted that, and what posts are now becoming in general on this topic. It's gone from early posts providing factual info on what happened to them, and how it was being handled by Celebrity, to now becoming an "I heard" cavalcade of questionable opinions. If the poster comes on and tells us where she heard the Oct 2024 oversold bit, and it isn't another third party unconfirmed source, I stand apologetically. But if it is an unconfirmed story, leave it off here.

Well I have read on this thread from more than 1 pink slip victim comments they have received from Celebrity agents that the Oct 2024 L&S cruises are no longer available.

I was not party to the conversations.  Maybe the cruisers who were will wish to unmask themselves but I will not.

If you read the thread carefully you will discover who they are.

Silly me, I believe them and on that note I am out.

    I guess I'm still confused.

I read factually about a family who had 6 rooms booked and 3 were cancelled.

I have not read about a family who had 9 separate cruises booked.

I do know someone a while back...about 20 pages or so... posted a list of Milly cruises affected in fall of '23 and spring of '24 that totaled 9 separate cruises.

I have seen copies of letters that cruisers with a fall '23 cruise affected that offered a "suggested" list of 3 fall of '24 cruises as L&S's.

I have seen copies of letters that cruisers with a spring of "24 cruise affected that offered a "suggested" list of 3 spring of '25 cruises as L&S's.

It seems like this 25 page thread has veered from affected cruisers sharing what happened to them to a plethora of opinions on how it has been handled....which is fine, that's what message boards are for... but  there might be value in checking back to see if what someone is posting is really what has happened or a guess at what they think they remember reading on this thread a week ago.

The goalposts are shifting all the time ........... One 'pink slip' party tried to L&S from Oct 23 to Oct 24 but that was overbooked.  They are now booked on a Sep 24 cruise which was not on any list.

I suspect Celebrity may have to expand the number of L&S cruises as there could be a supply issue................

It confused me for a moment as well...

The '9 into 3' bit is a reference to 9 different cruises being impacted by the overbooking problem, but only 3 cruises being offered for L&S, not directly related to the unfortunate family on one of those 9 impacted cruises with 6 cabins booked and 3 cancelled out from under them.

    Sorry my convoluted brain.

Has anyone read an update from any of those cruisers who were, IIRC, had B2B2B cruises booked and Celebrity cancelled their 2nd leg??

    This really isn't rocket science.......................

    Yes!

We are witnessing a cruise line whose senior management team may be on 'gardening leave' ?? - JMO.

May 1st there will be a new broom.

It appears that when there is an opportunity to do the right thing, X simply refuses to do it...even when it helps X...I mean, geez, there are people willing to voluntarily cancel but the answer is still no...

Why?? It's not like they don't have bookings that could be assigned to those cancelled cabins...quite the opposite...it makes no sense whatsoever...

JMO their short term goal is to maximise income.
