I suppose that passengers being transported from the Regent hotel to the ship by bus will have a bit of a wait (as usual) but if you get to the port 11:30ish in the morning, when they begin tendering you can be towards the front of the line.
Thanks for the tip Travelcat! We were planning on skipping the bus and taking a taxi anyway. But your tip gives further incentive to do the taxi. Also, thank you for the suggested time period to get to the ship.
Just have to figure out where the tenders are/embarkation point.
-
The one constantly in dry dock! LOL! :)
Haha! Touché. Maybe I should get a Lexus next time.
-
Lots of tenders I suppose... I have seen Crystal ships anchored off Monaco - but Regent normally is docked in the harbour...
Thanks Hambagahle. I’m hoping they’ve done this more than once so that they can speedily and efficiently get us through the check-in process.

I was a Coastie Pilot, 12 years Active, 8 Reserve. Semper Paratus! :)
So cool to meet a fellow Coastie on the boards!
Me- Class of 94, active 94-99 on CHASE (student engineer), HDQ, then PACAREA. I really wanted to be any pilot (helo or fixed wing), but I wouldn’t had made the minimum requirements for eye vision.
You guys did/still do some really dangerous stuff, but I know that flying is a passion. Don’t you wish you could land and tie down your helo on one of these ships? [emoji16]
-
Off the subject question, but were you in the Coast Guard?
Haha, yes. Semper Paratus!

Compass Rose has a couple of dishes on their lunch menu from Pacific Rim: a Thai green curry and Chinese pork ribs from memory.
Thanks for the clarification Catpow!
-
The lunch menu in Compass Rose has two appetizers and two main courses from Pacific Rim. See the lunch menu at: https://www.rssc.com/experience/cuisine/compass-rose. This is the menu we had on the Voyager this year in March and April.
Thanks DaveFr!

I appreciate continued comments. Can't remember whether I've already mentioned it: We've decided on Le Meridien in Barcelona, primarily because we can use reward points, but also because the nice manager is giving us a room upgrade in honor of my husband's birthday.
Hey! We just booked the same hotel (Le Meridien in Barcelona) this weekend for our June 2019 trip. We might not be able to use reward points, but we’ll at least collect more.
We chose that particular hotel after much analysis because it was between the Plaça de Catalunya and the Gothic Quarter. We decided to spend one full day there after the cruise because late afternoon flights direct from CDG to SEA was so expensive and difficult to find. This way we could just get a very early flight out of BCN to catch a direct CDG-SEA (instead of trying to do so right after disembarking or the next day). Besides, we hear Barcelona is quite a nice city to see. Might as well utilize the little we remember from the 4 yrs of high school Español. [emoji38]

Yes - that is what the anchor means - passengers will be tendered to the ship. It is a shame that Regent wasn't able to get a prime docking spot in Monte Carlo but they are extremely limited.
Thanks TravelCat. Bummer. I wonder how they’ll handle the crowds trying to board since it won’t be a mere funnel process. But it is what it is.
-
Trying to remember exactly but do know that in CR they typically have one dish from P7 and one from Chartreuse. I believe that there are dishes from Pacific Rim but am not 100% certain.
Bummer. Was hoping CR on Voyager would adopt some Asian fusion dishes from Pacific Rim even though they don’t have the restaurant onboard. Thanks for your reply Travelcat.

I have enjoyed Bob and Keith’s posts!
I haven’t cruised in a long time and never on Regent nor Crystal, so the info shared has been very good. Sometimes there’s conflicting info or just conflicting personalities. And some people utterly have no sense of humor (I guess just like in real life). But Bob focuses on the positive and iterates it in a much nicer and congenial way. [emoji1303][emoji4]

Taking this analogy further, if anybody knows a cruise line that is like a Ferrari F40 can they let me know who it is please:)
Same here- which one is the BMW X5 class? [emoji38]

We dressed and decided to go to the Observation lounge prior to dinner.
There were three very large cruise ships ahead of us. Two were tied up and one was departing. The departing ship was having difficulties and was backed partially back in and then finally was able to make it out. The next two ships departed and then it was our turn.
As we were making our way out things seemed normal at first with the tug pulling us against the crosswinds. Then we started to notice the forward part of the ship seemed to be drifting to the left and back toward the dock. The closer and closer we got to the dock the more concerned we all became. Then it seemed like we were correcting back out when there was a big bang (when hit aft). Then the forward part of the ship was once again headed toward the dock where we bumped and then started to slide. The scariest part was seeing the end of the dock with fenders and seeing bare concrete. Had we not stopped about 200 yards short of that it probably would have been much worse.
The winds in our cruise were very strong and even some of the staff mentioned it.
Reminds me of Adak Alaska. I was throttleman down in the engine room and the wind was pushing against the pier so bad that we were shaving the wood off. We had to get underway, so that CO ordered us to light the turbines to get us off the pier. I had the honor of throttling those babies! [emoji16]. We made it off the pier, and headed back to our patrol. Btw: Adak was a lousy mid-patrol break.

I noticed that in Monte Carlo, our embarkation day, it show an anchor (meaning ship anchored). Does this mean that checking in won’t be the normal walk across the gangway but rather a small boat wait to get on the ship?
-
So I heard that select Pacific Rim, Prime7, and Chartreuse dishes are available in CR. Is this true even on the Voyager which does not have Pacific Rim specifically?
-
Wow - you took a lot of time posting all of that information. According to reports from Corporate, with the exception of the Penthouse suites on Explorer, all of the suites on Splendor will be the same. The PH suites are being arranged a bit on Splendor - partly to increase the size of the closet which is very small.
For us, the "H" and "G" suites are just too small but the F1/F2 and Concierge suites are lovely with lots of storage space, 2 sinks in the bathroom as well as a separate shower and bath (we have stayed in both F1 and Concierge). While the "G"/"H" suites are a small version of other suites, we found the bathroom to be quite small (note: we have toured all of the suite levels which is how I know about them).
I cannot imagine that Regent has discontinued room service for lower categories - it just does not make sense and it is likely a omission. The same goes for champagne upon embarkation. Apparently Regent is redoing their website again and this could be the result. On the other hand, prior to Explorer debuting, they only had mock-up photos of the ship and the suites and some descriptions were not correct. I would take a look at Explorer to see if they have better descriptions.
For people new to Regent, being in a Concierge suite does have advantages (the pre-cruise hotel and multiple log-ins for example). Another reason to book Concierge is that you can book excursions and dining reservations earlier.
Thanks for the info TravelCat. For our first cruise, we did decide to go with Concierge. I wanted it for the Illys and the binoculars, haha. Just kidding. We thought since we’re new that having earlier access to dining and excursion reservations might be helpful.
-
I too thought that wow- the Splendor marketing material was either severely off or they totally changed from the Explorer specs. I’m happy that G and H are King size beds! Thank you for confirming Pink.
-
Thanks Bob re: your thoughts again on the Internet. And you’re right- I’m one of those people who get stuck in analysis paralysis. I sit there and ponder over which ones have king beds, which ones have better internet, which ones have the welcome champagne, etc... I should be like my DH- he’s the Golden Retriever of Cruises. Doesn’t care as long as there’s food and good company.
-
We were comparison shopping on that Caribbean cruise for our 25th anniversary, and it looks like Splendor would be the ship for the early December timeframe.
I noticed that there isn't a welcome champagne any more. There's no King bed till you go to Superior Suite (F). No binoculars, Illy's, or blanket. No personalized mini-bar, nor 24 hour room service? There's quite a few things you get in the various categories on Voyager that I don't see on Splendor. Is that just another poor website marketing text (ie a failed omission), or did they really downscale service and amenities on the Splendor?

Sounds as if you have a good TA. Glad that you were able to book the flights that you wanted!
Thanks TravelCat!
-
Hard to say for sure, but I do get the impression that when it is working, it is a bit faster here on the Serenity than I remember it being recently on the Voyager or explorer. But when you are getting a good signal, it is fine on both.

Thanks Bob for the clarification!

Just to be clear, when the internet is up and running, it is fine. Sitting on the pool deck, on both lines, generally no problem. My issue is that here, (Serenity) I frequently am trying to upload photos, and get an "upload failed" message. When I check my connection, it isn't there. 5 to 10 minutes later, it is back, all is well for a while, then.....
I do have to say that in my cabin, I get a much stronger connection than I have ever with Regent, that may be purely a question of cabin location however.
Honestly, I wouldn't base my choice on this, the cutting out may just be a quirk, I still have 7 more days, I'll try to let you know if the problem persists.
BTW, we facetime with our grand baby every evening before we retire, (perfect timing w time difference), and have rarely had any issues.

Hi Bob - would you say it's faster when it is working? I've heard it's faster, but since you are sending photos which we'd likely do as well, it'd be nice to have a general idea about the rumor/claim.

Wanted to report in on our air deviation. Our TA did a fantastic job in getting our flights accepted. He had asked us to pick the exact flights and dates that we wanted ahead of time. We are flying from SEA-CDG-NICE, and then BCN-CDG-SEA in June-July. We were going to ask for a several day lay-over in CDG, but decided not to overcomplicate things. We will just catch the high-speed rail from NICE to CDG when we land. We did go with Delta and the lowest rate possible. We did do our air deviation exactly at the 270 day air deviation request point. Regent accepted our itinerary without requesting anything besides the air deviation fees. We are extremely happy! Hopefully if we sail on further Regent cruises, our TA and Regent will continue to be able to provide the same kind of service. As our TA said, "Well, you are paying for it." LOL.
What does the anchor mean on embarkation day?
in Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Posted
I know that the hotel is Le Meridien, and it’s right on the beach. I wonder if the embarkation point may even be within walkable distance (not that far of course because of the luggage). As we get closer to the cruise date, I’ll ask the TA for the address just to be sure. I like to be prepared or the DH gets cranky.
