  1. Yeah, it's not really "spam" per se, since it does reference your booking number for a specific cruise.

I've been getting them, too...I keep thinking it's our cabin assignment, but alas...no.

It kind of freaks me out, and I think I've left something out of the online check-in, but I haven't.

One or two wouldn't be so bad, but every day is a bit ridiculous...

  2. For us, it's about limits. We'd rather not have the temptation of "unlimited" spending power on a short cruise. The cash keeps us in check. We cruise on a budget, and feel this allows us to enjoy cruising without getting ourselves in trouble.

    Different strokes...

  3. Thanks for the replies...we already have a bunch of onboard credit, and we just wanted to put down a little more to cover us for the whole trip.

We already registered a card and completed the online check-in...we'll stop at guest services to set up the cash account.

    Thanks again!

  4. The wife and I are on our first Princess cruise in 2 weeks on the CB.

On the online cruise check-in, it requires a credit card # for the onboard folio charges, and it doesn't have an option for cash, like on other lines.

Can we put cash down at check-in for our onboard account and not even register a credit card?

    Thanks in advance!

  5. [quote name='SconnieMom']I filmed because it is proof of "a couple drops of water" vs. the truth. No need to debate the severity when you have video. You all seem to miss the fact that I have told them before leaving what I thought was fair, and I emailed the same without threats and I've stated here.

Who said it was just "a couple drops of water"? It seems to me that by offering the new room and eventually a small credit that the company acknowledged there was, in fact, a problem.

I'm not sure the "truth" is being disputed by Carnival here...

  6. Carnival Miracle...circa 2008. We were waiting to leave the ship for our port day in San Juan. The husband and wife in front of us in line were explaining to their 6-ish year-old boy how important it was that he stayed with them at all times, because "These foreign countries are not as safe as home in New York City"...

    Err...

  7. Thank You everyone. I appreciate your feedback.

I am curious though why would you need new seapass cards.

also last time I went on a meditteranean cruise they did not hold our passports. Or did they hold them because you told the cruise line that you

    would be getting off?

In our case, the passports were held because we had a stop in Turkey. Apparently, this is requested by the Turkish government to make clearing the ship by customs officials easier. Although, we've had friends who did not stop in Turkey also have their passports collected, so I'm not sure what the official procedure is.

As for the seapass cards, the way it was explained to us by RCCL, when you leave the ship, they actually have to take you out of the system for that night, presumably to make their computer system match the actual manifest of people on board. Then when you rejoin the ship, they open a new account for you. However, we noticed no interruption in our charging privileges, and only had one bill at the end of the cruise, just like normal. We did, however, have to get a new sticker saying we had bought a wine package, since that was on our original card that was taken when we left the ship.

    Hope this helps!

  8. We did this in Italy. We got off in Livorno, spent the night in Florence, and took the train to Rome the next morning. We explored Rome, and then took the train to Civitavecchia to meet up with the ship.

We set the whole thing up with RCCL before we left, and since the cruise line held our passports, we had to wait for the ship to return them to us before we left the ship in Livorno. (Passports are required to check into hotels in Europe.) Getting back on the ship took a little bit of time, since new seapass cards had to be issued. All in all, it wasn't that difficult, and we would do it again.

A couple of words of wisdom, though...have back up plans. And then have back up plans for your back up plans. If we had missed the ship in Civitavecchia, it would have been our responsibility to meet up with the ship in Athens. We even had a car rental reserved in Florence, just in case the trains had gone on strike on the day we were trying to get to Rome. (Which is quite common in Italy...)

Do your research, and you should be fine.

  9. Ditto. It sounds as if you left them in the safe and not that they were stolen by what is written in the original post! I hope that they are returned to you.

Agreed. More than likely they found their way under the little lip that surrounds the bottom of the safe. It's the perfect hiding place for any small items in the safe.

Seems a bit unfair to automatically place blame on the steward...

  10. Without knowing your fitness level I will venture, yes, it is doable however if you feel you can't handle the walk back after dinner then you can take a cab back to the hotel for about $10 or grab a bus on Georgia St.

Heh...well, we're not exactly marathon runners :D , but we do enjoy some hiking and long-ish walks!

Thanks for the info...we're really looking forward to seeing Stanley Park. One question...from the entrance to the park at the seawall, how far of a walk is it to be underneath the Lions Gate bridge?

  11. Long time lurker on this thread...thanks to everyone for the invaluable information!!

We're staying in Vancouver for a night at the end of June before our cruise on the Amsterdam, and this is what I've got in mind for our one day in town.

We'll be checking into the Metropolitan on Howe around 2pm. The plan is to walk down to the water and down the sea wall towards Stanley Park. We'd like to walk around the park for a few hours, before stopping for dinner at Cordero's on the way back to the hotel.

Not knowing the scope of downtown Vancouver, does this sound doable on foot? After being cooped up in an airplane all morning, we'll be up for a nice walk, but was just concerned if this is walkable or not...

    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!!

  12. Still LOVING your review! :D Hate to see it end.

Do you remember what time the KLM flight was scheduled to land at Maho?? That's the one thing we REALLY want to see when we got to St. Martin. :)

    I'll take this one, Sherri...

As of right now, the KLM flight is scheduled in to SXM around 11AM. It's flight 785 from Amsterdam. This is quite a bit earlier than I can remember it in quite some time...it used to be scheduled around 2 or 2:30 if my memory serves me right. The up side of it coming in so early now is that you'll get to see it leave for Curacao around 12:30. Before, it didn't leave until around 4PM, and you wouldn't get to see it if you were just there on a cruise stop.

Two things to keep in mind, though...currently, that flight only operates on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. Depending on when you're going, the time and/or schedule could change.

If you're dead set on seeing a 747, Corsair flies one in from Paris a couple days a week. I believe it's on Thursday and Saturday. (Although, they sometimes substitute the A330 for the 747) Air France's flight from Paris is daily. It's a A340, and it is scheduled around 1:30.

There's a steady stream of smaller jets from the US (mainly 757's, A320's and 737's) that start coming in around 11AM until 3 or so. Those can be just as thrilling as the big boys!!

    Hope this helps!

  13. Amazing review - can't wait for the Freedom although for some reason I think there might not be as ~much~ drama ;)

To add a little tid bit I picked up on CC somewhere at some point in regards to packing booze in your suitcase... find someone with a un potty trained child... or an adult with a bladder control issue and borrow a diaper or two. Wrap said bottle o booze in the diaper (big people diapers work best) before putting it in a xl ziploc bags. Tada cushiony protection and if it does happen to break, the diaper will absorb the liquid (it's your choice whether you want to squeeze it out when you get home... no one will judge ;))

    Hmmm...morbid, yet functional...!
