Thanks for your wonderful insight.. You must be a blast to be around 🙄

So how do you think the climate will be different than where you live?  Is it cold and wet or hot and sunny.  In Alaska you can be on the top deck, do a 360 degree circle and experience winter, spring, summer and fall(well maybe not to much).  It could be raining and 50 degrees and one hour later sunny and 75 the next.   I was on the iceberg cruise.  Two weeks sunny and no rain maybe a few clouds.  SoCal weather.   And then again I have been on a B2B with two weeks all rain.  You dress in comfortable layers(like the clothes you wear at home).  I live in San Diego.  It rarely rains.  Shorts, t-shirt and flip flops.  I own one heavy jacket that I only wear to Alaska.  No need to get new gear. And no matter how much you prepare, you always forget something.  I'm sure you will figure it out.✌️

  2. I love it when you all talk about what to wear in Alaska.  I laugh at all the new gear you buy to wear on a cruise ship. It is like a fashion show.  Go out and buy that top dollar gear for probably a one time use.  Unless you live in San Diego (where the weather is always nice), look in your closet.  What really do you need?  Don't you already have rain gear at home?  Are hiking boot really necessary?  Are they comfortable?  Will you use them after the cruise?  Are they a need or a want?

So go to Macy's and knock yourself out buying that top dollar gear and don't for the matching hat, scarf and gloves or go to the thrift store and get what you may need for a one time use.  Poncho, rain jacket, umbrella, cane for walking, backpack, small luggage, etc.  You would be surprised what treasures you may find.✌️

We have had more that 20 cruises cancelled since the start of the Covid pandemic.  When one was cancelled we would book another.  We continued on that merry-go-round for 18 months, booking another one for a year in advance whenever one would be cancelled a week or a month before sailing.

Not going to the right places.  I have taken 11 cruises since Oct on various cruise lines.✌️

I actually kind of envy you. You got to hit my favorite ports (Sitka and Icy Strait) and then Hubbard. Sounds like you're headed back through the inside Passage? With a full refund and a 100% FCC. Plus, you get to say you were on a ship that hit an iceberg! We're on the Sun sailing on the 5th wondering if it'll get canceled and sounds like we'd only get a refund and 50% FCC and no vacation at all so I kind of wish I was on your sailing!

I was wrong about Canada's inside passage.  I guess the damage wasn't severe enough to go through so we went by way of the Pacific ocean.  2 1/2 sea days.  Just like returning to LA from Puerto Vallarta.  Oh well.  I have had a wonderful cruise.  And the weather was spectacular. Looking forward for my next free NCL cruise.✌️

There are a couple of occasions that stand out.  The first was a cruise on the Star in February 2017.  The ship lost all propulsion in the Tasman Sea and had to be towed back to Melbourne.  The Captain issued a letter advising that we would receive a "full refund of all monies paid" plus some FCC plus we got to stay on board, although we did miss all the remaining interim ports while repairs were performed in Melbourne.  Once the bean counters at NCL HQ in Miami got hold of things, though, the refund was reduced to just the amount designated as the cruise fare.  I disputed the amount, using the NCL "case submission" protocol.  The response I received was essentially "that's the way we always do it."  After five months of haggling with them, we finally received a second refund to our credit card which amounted to the total of the taxes, port fees, prepaid shore excursions, prepaid gratuities, etc.  So eventually we did receive a full refund, but the process was like pulling teeth.

On another occasion, we cancelled a cruise on the Pearl when we read on the CC roll call for the previous cruise that they had experienced a humongous Norovirus outbreak.  We were antsy about boarding a ship so soon after a major outbreak, so we cancelled at the last minute, less than 48 hours before our scheduled boarding time.  Without us having to ask for it, NCL automatically refunded our taxes, port fees, prepaid gratuities, etc.  We then had to deal with our insurance only for the amount of the cruise fare.  It has been my experience that there is a great deal of inconsistency in the way NCL handles refunds for cancellations and curtailed cruises, so I like to keep my finger on the pulse.

Well I am happy with the way NCL handled our situation.  One of the few times I paid rack rate and now I can parlay that into two cruises.✌️

So, my original question still stands.  How did the final amount of FCC you received compare dollar-for-dollar with the amounts shown on your original cruise payment confirmation?  Was the FCC equal to the total amount you had paid, or just the amount originally designated as "cruise fare", or some other amount?

You seem to know a lot.  What was your compensation for your incident ✌️

I don't recall precisely, but I may have added that to the original post and if you quoted it almost immediately after i posted my edit may not have hit the board yet.

Me too.  Internet on the ship inconsistent ✌️

My next sentence after the one you quoted was "Of course it's possible that US CBP will grant an exception to the requirement if the ship has significant damage that needs to be repaired."

Sorry.  I missed the next sentence because I didn't see it.✌️

On marinetraffic.com the ship's next port is listed as Victoria. They need to stop there to satisfy the PVSA's foreign port requirement.

Even under mechanical failure. Sometimes special exceptions made.

  10. We are finally leaving.  I guess yesterday was a tease.  No one off the ship.  But the Sun did find time to get some scheduled maintenance done by outside contractors.  This is my guess why we stayed so long.  An announcement was made but didn't hear it.  I think we are on our way back to Seattle skipping Ketchikan and Victoria.  My next guess is we travel through Canada's inside passage ✌️

  11. Now 11:45.  People still waiting on line to disembark. Tour busses gone.  Going on three hours.  Still no announcement. And the crew are working there a#@es off.  Are we having fun yet.✌️

  12. The plot thickens. We arrived about 5pm and NCL let guest off around 5:30 to return at 10:00.  We stayed overnight. Original schedule was to arrive at 7am today.  When I looked at the freestyle daily for today I saw all aboard at 1:45pm.  Well it is 9am and no one can leave the ship now.  Another delay.  They say 9:30.  What will happen next. ✌️
